A study of determinants of improved work engagement among young female full-time employees : From the perspective of the relationship with negative capabilities

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study is to clarify the relationship between work engagement and negative capability, to develop a version of the "job demands-resources model" for young employees, and to refine the work and personal resources specific to young employees. Interviews and questionnaire surveys were conducted on a total of 18 people, including 6 female employees in the early leaver group, 6 female employees in their 30s who have experience of early leaver, and 6 female employees in their 30s who have not experienced early leaver. As a result, the personal resources that may mainly affect work engagement were 1) negative capability, 2) reality shock, 3) stimulation of new things, and 4) support-receiving ability, and the work resources were considered to be 1) an accepting workplace, 2) a rich OJT system, and 3) the presence of a role model.departmental bulletin pape

Anthropological Study of End-of Life Doulas as an Ongoing Project:How End-of-Life Doulas Change the End-of-Life Phase

    Get PDF
When people are coming closer to death, they are tormented by the spiritual pain of searching for meaning in life. In order to allow a loved one to die in their own way, we need to support and help them overcome this pain and live their last life in their own way. In Japan, various initiatives have been initiated by medical and nursing care professionals. But in Europe and the United States, training has begun for ordinary local residents, who are not such specialists, to become “end-of-life doulas” who work closely with patients in clinical settings. Is it possible to fully introduce this system in Japan, where death is shunned and home care is kept very private? Japanese society is going to count many more deaths in the future, and the number of single-person households is increasing. Against the background of the current state of end-of-life care culture in Japanese society, the author, along with people with the same vision, will introduce “end-of-life doulas” who may become a new component of end-of-life care.departmental bulletin pape

How Students with Diverse Expertise Perceive Mokuiku : Analysis of Class Assignments

    Get PDF
As a full-time teacher in the Department of Early Childhood and Care, I have been exploring the theory and practice of Mokuiku . In this study, I, a teacher of the subject “Human Studies Concerning Life and Death,”aim to consider how students with diverse expertise perceive Mokuiku through the analysis of class assignments. This subject can be taken by students of both the Faculty of Human Sciences and the Faculty of International Social Sciences. In the second semester of the 2021/2022 academic year, my online class titled “Mokuiku Facing Natural Life” was held for more than 80 students each year. As a result, all the students shared their own thoughts and feelings about the educational significance of Mokuiku from different perspectives. Mokuiku seems to have the potential to gain sympathy from various students across faculties and departments.departmental bulletin pape

The Significance of Participating in a Study Tour Offered by a Non-Profit Organization : As Part of Study Abroad Program C

    Get PDF
This is a discussion of an experience six students from Toyo Eiwa University had in the Philippines through their participation in a volunteer activity. This experience provided them with valuable learnings that go beyond the primary purpose of their Study Abroad Program C, which focused on improving English skills and understanding different varieties of English. The students had a unique opportunity to interact with “homeless” children in Cebu, which allowed for a meaningful cultural exchange, exposing them to different perspectives of life. Witnessing the poverty faced by Filipino children challenged the studentsʼ preconceived notions about poverty and happiness. The studentsʼ awareness of the importance of knowing by seeing highlights the value of empathy and understanding in a global context. This can serve as a foundation for building bridges between people from diverse backgrounds. The experience has the potential to cultivate a broader understanding of diversity, both within Japan and beyond. It prepares the students to navigate situations where individuals with different ideas and beliefs come into close contact, fostering tolerance and acceptance. Ultimately, the lessons learned from this experience can contribute to the studentsʼ ability to manage situations involving people with varying perspectives. They can apply these skills not only in international contexts but also within their own country, helping to build a more inclusive and harmonious society.departmental bulletin pape

    協働的授業研究(CLR):日本の大学のEFL授業における授業内容についてのより深い議論促進をめぐって

    Get PDF
In this article, the authors report on one of four case studies conducted as part of an interdepartmental collaborative lesson research (CLR) project at a private university in Yokohama, Japan. The research theme of the project was the implementation of active learning approaches to lead students to develop a clearer and more critical understanding of subject-content material in their CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) and EMI (English Medium Instruction) courses. In the lesson examined here, revisions were made to foster deeper discussion of subject content among intermediate level second-year students in a required English CLIL class in the Department of Early Childhood Education and Care. In particular, the task was for students to understand and explain information to classmates about a graph or chart each had selected from the Our World in Data website, and discuss the information presented. The teacher made adjustments to the lesson plan to assist students in using higher thinking processes through active learning modes of engagement when doing this. First, we provide a literature background that significantly informed the design, data collection methods, and data analysis of the project. Then, we explain details of the lesson and modifications made to it. Next, the teaching of the lesson and methods of data collection are described. Finally, an analysis of the data, inferences that might be drawn, and implications these new insights may have for our future designing and teaching of lessons are given.本稿では、横浜市にある私立大学でCLR(協働的授業研究)の一環として実施された4つのケーススタディーのうち1つについて報告する。この研究プロジェクトのテーマは、CLIL(Content and Language Integrated Learning)とEMI(English Medium Instruction)の授業で、学生がより明確で批判的な理解を促進できるアクティブ・ラーニングの実施である。 departmental bulletin pape
