The semantic function and word-formation function of "Hu" and "Hi" : From two and three Chinese characters' complex words
“Hu” and “Hi” are used as negative Word-formation morphemes, and the authors try to find out the differences among the word-formation functions and semantic functions of “Hu” and “Hi”. In this paper, the authors group the two and three Chinese characters’ complex words of “Hu” and “Hi” by meaning.
According to analyze the word-formation functions and semantic functions of “Hu” and “Hi” until the early modern period, the
authors demonstrate the similarities and differences of the “Hu” and “Hi”.
The negative meanings of “Hu” and “Hi” are similar, but the proclitic of them are different.
By analyze the word-formation function, we find that the three Chinese characters’ complex words of “Hu” had been used before the early modern period, but only two Chinese character’s complex words of “Hi” had been used before the period.departmental bulletin pape
Autonomic dysreflexia triggered by hip joint position in patients with cervical cord injury : report of two cases
Two unusual cases of autonomic dysreflexia (AD) considered to have been triggered by hip joint position in males with complete tetraplegia due to C6 and C8 cervical cord injury are reported. In both cases, frequent repeated episodes of abnormal hypertension, bradycardia, and severe headache began to occur several months after injury, clearly constituting clinical AD.
The cause was entirely unknown, since none of the common trigger factors, such as urinary distension or fecal impaction, was present.
Subsequent clinical observations led to the assumption that hip joint position might be the cause, and blood pressure and heart rate in different positions were measured actually.
In both cases, the trigger factor was the position of the hip joint. In the first case, the trigger was the neutral and extended positions; in the second, the trigger was the abducted position.
As a result of this finding, it was possible to prevent AD by adjusting the hip joint position.
The mechanism of this rare AD can be inferred to be stretching of the proximal leg muscles resulting from the hip position as a noxious stimulus via the peripheral nerves.
Such hip positions are common during hospitalization and rehabilitation.
When AD occurs frequently without any other conceivable reason, the possibility that it may be triggered by hip joint position should be considered.departmental bulletin pape

Muscle strains diagnosed using ultrasound after a 10-km run : its incidence and type of injuries
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate muscle injuries using ultrasound (US) after assessing lower limb muscle pain occurring after a 10-km run in young non-athletes, and to reveal the rate of muscle injury and type of muscle strain.
Subjects: The subjects included 72 young, non-athletes who participated in a 10-km run. The mean age was 20.6 ± 0.6 years.
Methods: The subjects were immediately evaluated through physical examination for regarding the pain sites in their lower limbs. Subsequently, B-mode US was evaluated for diagnosis of muscle injuries. Chi-square tests were used for analysis of
rate at muscle strain and muscle strain type.
Results: Sixty-three participants complained of one or more of these pain regions (87.5%). Forty-two muscle injuries detected using US were observed mostly in the medial gastrocnemius and the vastus lateralis muscle, with a rate of 40.3% for
participants. Muscle strain was classified into three types in this study.
Conclusion: We investigated muscle injuries in runners after a 10-km run using US, and consequently, the incidence proved substantially high. Clinicians should pay close attention to the high injury incidence in amateur runners, and should exploit US for runners to promptly diagnose those who have any symptoms.departmental bulletin pape
