ANALYSIS OF THE IMPACT OF INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT ON MICRO, SMALL AND MEDIUM ENTERPRISES IN SEMPAKATA VILLAGE, MEDAN SELAYANG DISTRICT, MEDAN CITY

    No full text
Infrastructure development has become a national priority aimed at strengthening the foundation of Indonesia’s economic growth. At the local level, particularly in Kelurahan Sempakata, Medan Selayang District, the 2023 road and drainage improvement projects were expected to enhance regional connectivity and stimulate economic activities among Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). However, such physical transformations also generate various social and economic challenges that require in-depth analysis. This study aims to analyze the social and economic impacts of road and drainage infrastructure development on MSME actors in Kelurahan Sempakata, as well as to identify the adaptation strategies they adopted in response to the new infrastructure. The analysis employs Jean-Paul Rodrigue’s Accessibility Theory and Hanson and Pratt’s Social Access Theory, emphasizing that accessibility encompasses not only physical connectivity but also social capability—the ability of economic actors to utilize emerging opportunities. The research applies a qualitative descriptive approach, using in-depth interviews, participatory observation, documentation, and literature review as data collection techniques. Informants include MSME owners from various sectors—trade, services, culinary, and workshops—as well as community leaders who represent the local socio-economic context. The findings reveal that infrastructure development has generated positive impacts, such as improved accessibility, enhanced distribution efficiency, and the emergence of new business opportunities. Nonetheless, during the construction phase, some MSMEs experienced income decline and operational disruptions due to limited customer access. After project completion, most MSME actors managed to adapt through service innovation, business restructuring, and product quality enhancement. The role of the local government in providing assistance and information dissemination proved essential in facilitating MSME adaptation

MODEL OF MUALLAF DEVELOPMENT BASED ON LOCAL WISDOM IN MUSLIM MINORITY VILLAGES: A CASE STUDY OF NGADAS VILLAGE, EAST JAVA

    No full text
This research examines a model of muallaf development based on local wisdom within a Muslim minority community, with a case study in Ngadas Village, Poncokusumo District, Malang Regency. This village has a unique socio-religious character, where Muslims are a minority group, mostly increasing through conversion due to marriage and social interaction. This condition necessitates a development pattern that is not only doctrinal but also adaptive to local culture and interreligious relations. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data was collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and analyzed interactively through condensation, presentation, and conclusion drawing with data triangulation. The results show that muallaf development is carried out through a non-directive community-based model that integrates local wisdom into socio-religious traditions, such as tahlilan, Friday prayers, and daily interactions. This model contributes to strengthening the Islamic identity of muallaf and maintaining social harmony, although it still faces limitations in resources and development planning

ENTANGLED LEGAL PLURALISM: AN INCLUSIVE MODEL FOR RESOLVING INDIGENOUS NATURAL-RESOURCE DISPUTES BASED ON THE SDGS AND SOCIAL JUSTICE

    No full text
This study focuses on the effect of entangled legal systems on the administration of natural resources in multi-ethnic communities in North Sulawesi. We raised three fundamental issues: (1) the mix of formal laws and customary practices as hybrid-norm zones as communities renegotiate the social boundaries and move between different governance forums; (2) formal and informal, gauging the process of renegotiation of the boundaries within communities; and (3) safeguards within communities that promote or impede inclusive participation in dispute resolution. Using a multi-method design consisting of participatory mapping, document review, panel observations, focus group discussions, and expert network analysis, three different hybrid-norm zones were identified (shared-use agroforestry in Minahasa, rotational fishing quota in Sangihe, and sacred resource reserves in Talaud). Seasonal redraw rate data (78%, 65%, 72%) along with average forum shifts (2.3, 1.9, 2.1) indicate that there is a strong correlation between the intensity of boundary-making and the procedures of recursion. Documentary analysis revealed evidence of negotiated joint authorsship in the form of signatures from customary and state actors for documents for which joint authorship is indicated in one-third of the dispute records. Finally, expert accessibility skews and secures the take-up of experts, underscoring the constant equity holes.  We conclude that inclusive pluralism results from the mechanisms of spatial, procedural, and documentary reinforcement of each other in a permanent feedback loop. We recommend that hybrid rules be made law, platforms that engage a large number of people be increased, and digital tools be applied to flexible and fair governance

BUILDING A SMART GREEN CITY: MULTI-ACTOR COLLABORATION IN IoT-BASED FOR WASTE MANAGEMENT

    No full text
The development of modern cities faces increasingly complex challenges, including rapid population growth, rising waste volumes, pollution, and escalating energy demands. Urbanization, higher consumption, and shifting waste generation patterns further complicate waste management. The Smart City concept emphasizes integrating ICT to enhance efficient, inclusive, and sustainable urban governance, while the Green City framework focuses on environmental sustainability within governance. Combining these approaches, the Smart Green City model merges technological innovation with ecological principles, with the Internet of Things (IoT) serving as a key instrument. This study examines the technological dimension alongside sustainability and community well-being. Using a qualitative case study, Malang City was selected for its role as a creative and educational hub in East Java, actively promoting Smart City initiatives with a focus on sustainable environmental management. Implementation challenges include limited budgets, inadequate technological infrastructure, and low community participation. These issues are analysed through major theoretical perspectives to provide a comprehensive understanding of Smart Green City development in Malang, highlighting both the potential and constraints of integrating technology and sustainability in urban planning

    No full text
The National Sports Week (Pekan Olahraga Nasional—PON) represents Indonesia’s highest multi-event sporting competition and serves as a benchmark for provincial sports performance development. This study analyzes the fluctuating competitive achievements of North Sumatra’s Wushu Sanda team at the 2012–2024 PON using the CIPP model (Context, Input, Process, Product). Employing a descriptive qualitative research approach, the study involved officials of the sports association, coaches, and Wushu Sanda athletes from North Sumatra who were directly engaged in athlete development and PON participation. Data were collected through interviews, document analysis, and observation. Data analysis was conducted descriptively by linking the research findings to the context, input, process, and product components of the CIPP framework. The findings indicate that, from the context perspective, North Sumatra’s Wushu Sanda occupies a strategic position as a leading regional sport with a strong tradition of achievement, yet faces intense national competition and psychological pressures during major events. From the input dimension, the availability of athletes, coaches, and institutional support is generally adequate; however, the quality of athlete readiness remains uneven, particularly in terms of mental resilience and competitive experience. From the process aspect, the effectiveness of athlete development programs emerges as a decisive factor in performance consistency, where inconsistencies in training programs, limited monitoring and evaluation, and the lack of integrated mental preparation negatively affect athlete readiness. From the product dimension, North Sumatra’s Wushu Sanda demonstrates consistent medal attainment across the 2012–2024 PON editions, yet has not achieved sustained optimal results, with its peak performance recorded at PON 2016. In conclusion, the competitive achievements of North Sumatra’s Wushu Sanda are the result of an integrated interaction among the context, input, and process components of athlete development. Strengthening the coherence and synergy of these three components is crucial to enhancing future performance outcomes of North Sumatra’s Wushu Sanda at the PON

THE MEANING OF MARKETING STRATEGY THROUGH WORD OF MOUTH AND PACKAGING DESIGN ON CONSUMER PURCHASE DECISIONS: AN ETHNOGRAPHIC STUDY OF GTT YELLOW TOFU PRODUCTS IN KEDIRI CITY

    No full text
This study aims to understand the meaning and mechanism of how word of mouth (WOM) communication and packaging design influence consumer perception and purchase decisions toward the local product GTT Yellow Tofu in Kediri City. Using a qualitative approach with mini-ethnography method, this research traces social and symbolic practices in culture-based traditional marketing. Data was collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with business owners and consumers, as well as visual documentation of packaging. Data analysis was conducted using the interactive technique of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña (2014) through stages of open coding, axial coding, and selective coding to identify main themes. The research results show that WOM functions as a social mechanism that builds trust and community legitimacy, while packaging functions as a cultural symbol and marker of product authenticity. The interaction between both creates synergy between social trust and visual legitimacy that strengthens purchase decisions and consumer loyalty. Consumption of GTT Yellow Tofu is understood as a cultural practice that represents pride and local identity of Kediri society. Theoretically, this research expands understanding of culture-based marketing by integrating concepts of social capital and cultural branding, while practically providing guidance for MSMEs to develop marketing strategies that prioritize social values, cultural authenticity, and consumer trust
