DONALD TRUMP’S POLITICAL AND RHETORICAL STRATEGIES IN THE 2024 UNITED STATES PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN DEBATE: A CRITICAL DISCOURSE AND POPULIST RHETORIC ANALYSIS: Strategi Politik dan Retoris Donald Trump dalam Debat Kampanye Pemilihan Presiden Amerika Serikat 2024: Analisis Wacana Kritis dan Retorika Populis

    No full text
This study examines the political and rhetorical strategies employed by Donald Trump during the 2024 United States presidential debate, focusing on five key tactics: polarization, demonization of opponents, emotional nationalism, anti-institution rhetoric, and personalization of leadership. Utilizing a qualitative approach with critical discourse analysis and rhetorical analysis, the research analyzes the complete transcript of the debate to identify how these strategies construct a populist narrative aimed at mobilizing voter loyalty, delegitimizing political adversaries, and positioning Trump as the sole solution to national crises. The findings reveal that Trump’s communication style is not only content-driven but also performative and symbolic, employing emotionally charged language and stark dichotomies to strengthen collective identity among supporters. Polarization is evident in his framing of “us versus them,” creating clear boundaries between patriotic citizens and perceived threats such as immigrants and political elites. Demonization tactics involve hyperbolic language portraying opponents as existential dangers, effectively generating fear and anger. Emotional nationalism is invoked through nostalgic references to America’s past greatness, reinforcing group cohesion and hope for restoration. Anti-institution rhetoric undermines public trust in media, government, and electoral systems, while personalization of leadership elevates Trump as an indispensable, charismatic figure. While these strategies prove effective in political mobilization, they also raise concerns about increased social fragmentation, erosion of democratic norms, and challenges to institutional legitimacy. This study contributes to the literature on political communication by providing a comprehensive, critical examination of contemporary populist rhetoric within a digital media environment. The results offer valuable insights for scholars, policymakers, and practitioners interested in the dynamics of political discourse and its implications for democratic processes

The background of the research stems from the limited integration of local historical resources into the history curriculum, which often relies heavily on textbook-based and lecture-centered approaches. The aim of this research is to describe the implementation of site-based learning using the mosque, analyze students’ historical awareness, and identify the challenges faced by teachers in this process. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving teachers, students, school administrators, and community figures. The findings indicate that utilizing the heritage site as a learning medium significantly increased students’ motivation and engagement in history learning. Students demonstrated stronger historical consciousness, not only in understanding local history but also in developing appreciation and responsibility for cultural preservation. Moreover, the study found that the spiritual atmosphere of the mosque, combined with experiential learning activities, enriched the affective and reflective dimensions of historical learning. This research contributes a practical model of heritage-based learning that can be replicated in other educational settings, especially in regions with valuable cultural assets

MUSEUM-BASED HISTORY LEARNING: RELICS OF THE PRE-LITERACY PERIOD IN INDONESIA IN NORTHERN JAVA AS A LEARNING RESOURCE: Pembelajaran Sejarah Berbasis Museum : Peninggalan Masa Praaksara Indonesia di Jawa Bagian Utara sebagai Sumber Pembelajaran

    No full text
History learning in schools is still dominated by conventional methods such as lectures and memorization, which has an impact on low student participation and the linkage between the material and historical reality. In fact, history is a science that is rich in the value of life if it is conveyed contextually and based on real evidence. Museums as cultural heritage preservation institutions have great potential as an authentic and interactive source of historical learning, especially in conveying historical material during the pre-literacy period. One example is the Patiayam Museum in Central Java, which stores important archaeological relics from the Pleistocene period. However, the use of museums in history learning in schools is still limited due to the lack of integration with the curriculum and the limited resources of teachers. Therefore, this study aims to examine the potential of museums, especially the relics of the preliterate period in the northern part of Java, as a source of contextual, relevant, and meaningful historical learning. The study also highlights the importance of collaboration between schools, governments, and museum managers in supporting learning based on local historical sources. Keywords: Patiayam Museum, Education, Learning Resource

This study aims to analyze the development of the underground music scene in Semarang during the period 1999–2016, with a particular focus on the role of AK//47 in utilizing grindcore music as a medium for social criticism. This study uses a historical method that includes the stages of heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. Data collection techniques include literature review, archival analysis, and in-depth interviews with relevant informants. The findings show that AK//47 not only played a significant role in the formation and development of the underground music scene in Semarang, but also positioned grindcore music as a medium for expressing dissatisfaction with social, political, and environmental issues. This study demonstrates that grindcore, with its inherent Do It Yourself (DIY) ethos, functions as a means of cultural resistance and grassroots advocacy. It is hoped that this research will enrich the historiography of local music in Indonesia, particularly regarding the dynamics of underground subcultures as spaces for social and political articulation

The effectiveness of Stasiun Lambuang as a Public Space for Empowering Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Bukittinggi City: Efektivitas Ruang Publik Stasiun Lambuang untuk Usaha Mikro, Kecil dan Menengah (UMKM) di Kota Bukittinggi

    No full text
The purpose of this research is to assess how well Stasiun Lambuang serves as a public area for empowering Bukittinggi City's MSMEs.  Data was gathered by document analysis, in-depth interviews, and observation using a descriptive qualitative methodology.  The results show that, as seen by ineffective zoning and passive visitor behavior, the area does not adequately address the financial demands of MSME actors. Zone 1 is less attractive due to limited facilities, while Zone 2 is more crowded due to entertainment features. Moreover, poor external visibility caused by a concrete fence reduces spontaneous visits. The analysis refers to Carr’s (1992) framework of an ideal public space, which requires responsive, democratic, and meaningful qualities. This study recommends facility revitalization, zoning rearrangement, and a more participatory management strategy

    No full text
This study aims to identify the types of figurative language used in the advertising copywriting of global technology companies and analyze its communicative function in conveying messages to the audience. The background of this study is based on the complexity of technology products, which are often difficult for the general public to understand, thus requiring a creative and persuasive communication approach. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method with text analysis techniques on 80 copywriting data from the top five technology companies according to Forbes in 2025, namely Apple, Microsoft, Nvidia, Amazon, and Alphabet. The analysis results indicate that metaphor, hyperbole, and personification are the most dominant types of figurative language used. The primary function of figurative language in technology advertising is to build an emotional connection with the audience, shape brand image, and simplify technical concepts. These findings confirm that figurative language not only enhances the message but also serves as an effective communication strategy to bridge the gap between technology products and consumers. This study is expected to serve as a reference for developing more humanistic and emotional marketing communication strategies in the digital age

An Analysis of Students’ Pronunciation Errors at Bilingual Community School

    No full text
This study analyzes English pronunciation errors among Year 1 students at a Bilingual Community School in Bali, driven by the need to understand how learners’ first languages influence their ability to articulate English consonants. The aim is to identify recurring errors in voicing, place, and manner of articulation, and to examine the impact of native language interference in a bilingual learning context. The research objectives were achieved by employing a descriptive quantitative research design. Data were collected from 15 bilingual students through pronunciation tests consisting of 70 words, semi-structured interviews to probe linguistic background and pronunciation challenges, and video recordings to observe articulatory movements. Results revealed that, while most students mastered familiar English consonants, persistent errors were noted with sounds absent from their native languages, particularly /θ/, /ð/, /v/, /z/, and /ʃ/. The most frequent errors were characterized by the replacement of unfamiliar English sounds with closer native equivalents, especially in voicing contrasts and tongue placement. These systematic errors were found to be largely attributable to first language interference rather than random mistakes. New insights were provided by focusing on young bilinguals in a dual-language environment, demonstrating that complex interactions between multiple languages shaped distinct pronunciation difficulties. The findings highlighted the necessity of tailored phonetic instruction and focused classroom strategies to address language-specific pronunciation challenges in bilingual settings
