Spontaneous Migration of Central Venous Catheter to Anterior Mediastinum
Central venous devices are routinely used in delivering chemotherapy and total parenteral nutrition. Spontaneous migration of central venous catheters is a very rare complication, but the etiology of this problem is not clear. We report here a case of migration of a port catheter to the anterior mediastinum in a patient with stage IVC nasopharyngeal cancer during chemotherapy. The patient presented with pulmonary manifestations in form of shortness of breath and chest tightness caused by left massive pleural effusion. The pleural effusion was resolved by thoracocentesis and the migrated catheter was retrieved surgically
A Comparative Geophysical Study of the Sedimentary-Metamorphic Contacts in the Douala and Kribi-Campo Sub-Basins of Cameroon
The magnetotelluric method has been used in this work to compare the nature of the sedimentary-metamorphic contacts of the Douala and Kribi-Campo sub-basins in Cameroon. The results show that the sedimentary-metamorphic contact zones for the two sub-basins, marked by a subsidence of the low resistivity materials on the sedimentary formations and uplift of the high resistivity materials characterized by intrusive bodies of higher values of resistivity on the metamorphic formations, are structurally similar,. However, the very low values of resistivity of rocks in the Douala sub-basin is suggestive of high porosity, permeability and high level of saline ions dissociation leading to high conductivity. These rocks should be of unconsolidated sediments for the sedimentary formation and gneiss for the metamorphic formation. On the contrary, the very high values of resistivity for rocks in the Kribi-Campo sub-basin indicate the absence of free mobile electrons and ions and low porosity, permeability and non-conductivity. The sedimentary formation of this sub-basin should be composed of limestone and conglomerates rocks with some gneissic and unconsolidated granitic materials. The rocks in the metamorphic formation should be completely granitic in nature. The shallow depth of penetration of only 4 km of telluric current in the Douala sub-basin is enough evidence that the tectonic events responsible for the emplacement of this contact zone were limited to the earth crust. On the other hand, in the Kribi-Campo sub-basin the tectonic events should have originated from within the earth mantle as the depth of penetration of telluric current attains 150 km
Red Cell Distribution Width and Neutrophil/lymphocyte Ratio in Coronary Bare Metal Stent Restenosis: Red Cell Distribution Width and Neutrophil/lymphocyte Ratio in Stent Restenosis
Background
Coronary stents are commonly used to treat obstructive coronary artery disease. It is currently difficult to reliably predict in-stent restenosis. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between bare metal stent restenosis and red cell distribution width (RDW), neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (N/L ratio). It was the first study that used a control group with a normal coronary angiogram.
Methods
We enrolled patients who underwent coronary angiography between June 2012 and September 2013 in our center. We enrolled a cohort of 210 consecutive patients, of which 130 had a coronary artery stent and 80 had a normal coronary angiogram.
Results
The mean age of the study group was 62 (38-86) years. The mean RDW levels of patient group with no-restenosis were significantly higher than the control group but there was no significant difference between the mean RDW levels of the restenosis group and the other subgroups (14.9 (11.7-17.6), 15.5 (10.9-20.4), 15.4 (11.7-20.1), respectively). N/L ratio was significantly higher in patients with stent restenosis 2.32(1.49-5.35) compared to the other two groups whereas there was no significant difference between the control group and non-restenosis group with respect to N/L ratio. (1.71(0.84-7.89), and 2.09(0.89-9.15), respectively).
Conclusions
According to our findings, RDW was not a predictor of stent restenosis or coronary artery disease. On the other hand, our findings support the hypothesis that N/L ratio is an indicator of inflammation that plays a role in-stent restenosi
A Retrospective Paired Study: Efficacy and Safety of Nimotuzumab Combined with Radiochemotherapy in Locoregionally Advanced Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma
Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of nimotuzumab in combination with radiochemotherapy as the primary treatment in patients with locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Methods: We retrospectively reviewed patients with locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma from September 2012 to December 2016. 188 newly diagnosed patients with stage III–IVB nasopharyngeal carcinoma were treated with at least 1-2 cycles of chemotherapy concurrently with planned IMRT. 88 patients received nimotuzumab 200 mg/week. Acute and late radiation-related toxicities were graded according to the Acute and Late Radiation Morbidity Scoring Criteria of Radiation Therapy Oncology Group. Results: After 3 months of treatment, the complete response rates of nasopharyngeal tumors in the study group and the control group were 78.4% and 65.5%, respectively (?2=4.070, P=0.044). The total complete response rates of cervical lymph nodes in the study group and the control group were 80.7% and 67.6% respectively (?2=4.022, P=0.045).The median cycle for nimotuzumab addition was 6.3 weeks. With a median follow-up of 36.3 months (range, 12–72 months), the estimated 3-year progression failure-free survival and overall survival rates for the study group and the control group were 85.24% vs 81.97% and 96.67% vs 90.0%, respectively. The 3-year local recurrence-free survival rates for the study group and the control group were 96.67% vs 83.60%, respectively (P=0.047). Grade 3 radiation-induced mucositis accounted for 36.4% of treated patients. No skin rash and infusion reaction were observed, distinctly from what is reported in control patients. Conclusion: Nimotuzumab plus chemoradiotherapy in the treatment of locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma showed promising outcomes in terms of locoregional control, without increasing the incidence of radiation-related toxicities for patients
A Review Paper on Comparison of Numerical Techniques for Finding Approximate Solutions to Boundary Value Problems on Post-Buckling in Functionally Graded Materials
The use of finite element models as research tools in biomechanics and orthopedics grew exponentially over the last two decades. However, the attention to mesh quality, model validation and appropriate energy balance methods and the reporting of these metrics has not kept pace with the general use of finite element modeling. Therefore, the purpose of this review was to develop the nonlinear filter and thermal buckling of an FGM panel under the combined effect of elevated temperature conditions and aerodynamic loading is investigated using a finite element model based on the thin plate theory and von Karman strain-displacement relations to account for moderately large deflection. It is found that the temperature increase has an adverse effect on the FGM panel flutter characteristics through decreasing the critical dynamic pressure. Decreasing the volume fraction enhances flutter characteristics, but this is limited by the structural integrity aspect. Structural finite element analysis has been employed to determine the FGM panel's adaptive response while under the influence of a uniaxial compressive load in excess of its critical buckling value. By increasing the applications of using composite materials inside aviation stages, it is visualized that the versatile FGM plate setup will broaden the operational execution over traditional materials and structures, especially when the structure is presented to a raised temperature. The vicinity of air motion facilitating stream brings about delaying the locking temperature and in stifling under loads, while the temperature build gives route for higher thermal-cycle abundance
Annealing Temperature Effect on Properties of Chemically Deposited PbTe Films and Bulk
The PbTe films were deposited onto glass substrate (microscopic slices) by a chemical bath method (CBD) at room temperature. The deposited films are dense, smooth, and uniform with silver gray metallic luster structure. Using XRD, it found that the structure of PbTe possesses stable face centered cubic (fcc) phase. The grain size of the PbTe bulk increased within the range of 33– 57 nm with annealing temperature increasing. AFM micrographs of surface of the prepared film are observed that horizontal distance in the rang (230– 395) nm. The band gaps of the PbTe are determined from UV-Vis spectrophotometer and are found to be within the range ( 0.39 - 0.95) eV. Energy band gab of PbTe which determined from FT -IR spectrophotometer is (0.36ev). The activation energy varied from 0.35- 1.72 eV for films and from 0.11-0.34 eV for bulk with annealing temperature variations from 373-573K. Films and bulk exhibit p-type conduction and resistivity in the range (75×10-4 ?. cm - 146×10-4 ? .cm). The carriers density and Hall mobility in PbTe bulk were in the rang 5.8 ×1023 m-3 and 4.004 m2/Vs
E-learning Tool for Visualization of Shortest Paths Algorithms
Visualizations of algorithms contribute to improving computer science education. The process of teaching and learning of algorithms is often complex and hard to understand problem. Visualization is a useful technique for learning in any computer science course. In this paper an e-learning tool for shortest paths algorithms visualization is described. The developed e-learning tool allows creating, editing and saving graph structure and visualizes the algorithm steps execution. It is intended to be used as a supplement to face-to-face instruction or as a stand-alone application. The conceptual applicability of the described e-learning tool is illustrated by implementation of Dijkstra algorithm. The preliminary test results provide evidence of the usability of the e-learning tool and its potential to support students’ development of efficient mental models regarding shortest paths algorithms. This e-learning tool is intended to integrate different algorithms for shortest path determination
Stresses Variation due to the Anomalies in Circle of Willis
The aneurysm is a complex phenomenon which is affected by different factors, such as the biological diseases and the blood flow parameters. The wall shear stress and pressure are the main factors in the establishment and growth of cerebral aneurysm. The circle of Willis is a prevalent location for aneurysm. On the other hand, the anomalies of circle of Willis cause variations in flow field pattern and also the wall shear stress and pressure. In the present study, the effects of some anomalies in the flow pattern are investigated using three dimensional simulation of the Circle of Willis. The simulations are conducted using commercial ANSYS FLUENT. The obtained results show the major anomalies cause increase wall shear stress and pressure on the wall of circle of Willis. This factor can lead to increase the risk of aneurysm

The study presented here aimed to grasp, interpret and understand the processes of construction of knowledge developed by the Specialization Course in Education Program (PPGE) at UFAM (Universidade Federal do Amazonas – Amazonas Federal University). The dip in their doings, in the society and culture in which it is located, has enabled us to grasp the immense plot and the network of meanings woven by the energy that emerges from the life of Amazonian subjects and their world which transcend, by far, the pure beams of logical relationships where humans are treated as clones, doomed to an eternal repetition. The analysis have articulated the researchers’ perceptions, the theoretical conceptions and the data collected and revealed the richness and fertility of those cultures and the meaning of that Program, which has its support in local knowledge with insertion in the universal context
Estimating Delay of Vehicles in Nearside Legs of the Signalized Intersections under Expectation Method in Under-Saturation Conditions for Isolated Intersection
Signalized intersections are essential elements of road transport in cities, thus providing condition in which these key elements have optimal performance in different traffic conditions has always been a concern for traffic engineers. Normally, Average vehicle control delay (delay due to the presence of traffic lights) is used as performance indicators on signalized intersections that is estimated using a lot of equations, including the Webster, Green Shields and the equation described in the book "Highway Capacity Manual". But in these equations no place is include for the distribution of vehicles on the routes leading to the signalized intersections. Ignoring this issue could lead to a false estimate of the average amount of delay on the signalized intersections because of the type of their entrance resulting in inefficient operation of the intersection. Using Expectation Method, this paper proposes a better estimate of the amount of delay on the vehicles in signalized intersections, depending on frequency of entrance to the intersection. In the end it will be found out that different frequency distribution of vehicles at nearside legs of intersection lead to different delay estimates of vehicles
