    Enhancing Students’ Vocabulary Achievement through Flashcards Strategy at Public Elementary School

    This study investigated the effectiveness of flashcards in enhancing vocabulary achievement among third-grade students in a public elementary school in South Tangerang. A quantitative quasi-experimental design was applied, involving 33 students in the experimental group who received seven sessions of flashcard-based instruction and 32 students in the control group who received conventional teaching. Both groups completed pre-tests at the beginning and post-tests at the end of the intervention, and data were analyzed using SPSS. Analyses included descriptive statistics, item mastery, normality and homogeneity tests, N-gain calculation, and paired and independent t-tests. Results showed the experimental group achieved a mean post-test score of 16.88 (SD = 2.247), significantly higher than the control group’s 11.53 (SD = 1.951), with a mean difference of 5.35 points (t(63) = 10.233, p < 0.001). N-Gain analysis indicated a high gain of 0.70 (70.16%) for the experimental group, compared to 0.13 (12.80%) for the control group. Item-level analysis confirmed flashcards improved both recognition and productive use of vocabulary. Additionally, flashcards enhanced students’ motivation, engagement, and confidence through visual cues and interactive practice. The findings suggest flashcards are an effective, low-cost strategy for elementary EFL classrooms, guiding teachers in using engaging and multimodal tools

    Understanding teachers’ personality competence in mathematics instruction

    Teacher personality competence, which includes ethical maturity, reflective self-development, and a student-centered orientation, is vital to effective mathematics instruction at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah. However, this crucial aspect remains overlooked mainly in instructional design, limiting the potential for meaningful and ethical learning experiences. This study explores how personality competence is demonstrated in classroom practices and contributes to high-quality mathematics teaching. Utilizing a qualitative approach and the Didactical Design Research (DDR) framework at the prospective analysis stage, the research involved six sixth-grade teachers from six different Madrasah Ibtidaiyah in Bandung Regency. Data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews, teacher reflection sheets, and instructional document analysis. Data were analyzed using the three-stage framework of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification through an iterative process to identify patterns and inform the subsequent DDR phases in the context of joyful mathematics learning at MI. Findings revealed that teachers scored at level 3 for moral, emotional, and spiritual maturity, level 1 for reflective self-development, and level 2 for student-centered orientation. These findings suggest that while MI teachers show emerging awareness of personality competence, most remain at early developmental stages, highlighting the need for structured support to foster ethical leadership, reflective practice, and student-centered teaching. Teachers with strong personality competence exhibited discipline and consistency and served as moral role models. Furthermore, they effectively managed classrooms and actively engaged students in mathematical learning. These results offer insights for developing instructional designs prioritizing teacher personality competence as a critical factor in educational quality

    The "realistic" concept in Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) is often confined to everyday contexts. In contrast, for aerospace engineering students, realistic mathematics should reflect the mathematical applications in their academic and future professional environments. This study aimed to design and evaluate instructional activities grounded in RME principles, integrating mathematics mobile applications to support conceptual understanding and reasoning. Using a design research approach, the study involved a questionnaire distributed to alums and third-year students, followed by two implementation cycles with first-year aerospace engineering students. The focus was on integral strategies in calculus, utilizing Photomath to bridge informal and formal mathematical reasoning. Results indicate that students engaged actively with the applications and demonstrated improved reasoning skills, particularly in inductive and imitative reasoning. This study highlights the potential of contextualized digital tools in supporting realistic mathematics learning in higher education. It suggests directions for aligning university-level mathematics with its practical applications in other disciplines, such as aerospace engineering

    Development of CORE model-based student worksheet on trigonometric ratios to facilitate students’ mathematical conceptual understanding

    This research was motivated by the low ability of students to understand mathematical concepts, particularly in the topic of trigonometric ratios. The CORE model was chosen because it encourages active student participation in constructing concepts through systematic stages. The purpose of this study is to develop a valid and practical CORE-based worksheet on trigonometric ratios to support students\u27 conceptual understanding. The development process followed the 4-D model (define, design, development, disseminate). Research data consisted of qualitative input from validators and students, as well as quantitative data from questionnaire scores. Data collection was conducted through interviews and questionnaires using validation sheets and student response instruments. The sample was selected through purposive sampling: 6 students from class XE.1 (Small Group) and 30 students from class XE.3 (Field Test). A worksheet is considered valid and practical if it achieves its values. The results showed that the developed worksheet was very valid (94.31%) based on appearance, content, and construction aspects. It was also very practical, with scores of 97.36% for Small Group and 90.13% for Field Test, assessed based on presentation, ease of use, readability, and time. CORE based worksheets encourage students to actively construct concepts actively actively, thereby facilitating their ability to conceptual understand trigonometric ratios

    Students\u27 mathematical problem-solving skills remain a critical challenge in junior high school education, with only 5% of students able to solve problems effectively. This difficulty is compounded by abstract learning materials and a lack of engaging, culturally relevant learning media. This research project aims to develop an adventure game learning medium set in the context of Maritime Malay culture to enhance junior high school students\u27 mathematical problem-solving abilities. The purpose of this study is to determine the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of the learning media. This study employed the ADDIE research method, consisting of five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The subjects of this study were 35 eighth-grade students from SMP Negeri 1 Tanjungpinang. The instruments used were validation, practicality, and media effectiveness sheets. Data analysis techniques use both qualitative and quantitative methods. The material expert validation results showed an average assessment of 85.6%, indicating very valid criteria. The practicality results from the student-teacher trial showed 86.5% practicality, with very practical criteria. Furthermore, the product\u27s effectiveness, measured using the N-Gain score, obtained a value of 0.61. Based on the data obtained, adventure games with a maritime Malay cultural context that improve mathematical problem-solving skills in junior high school students meet the criteria of validity, practicality, and effectiveness, making them suitable for use as learning media in the mathematics learning process.Penelitian ini adalah penelitian dan pengembangan (R&D) yang mengembangkan sebuah media pembelajaran game adventure dengan konteks budaya melayu maritim untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis pada siswa SMP. Tujuan penelitian ini ialah mengetahui kevalidan, kepraktisan, dan keefektifan dari media pembelajaran game adventure. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode penelitian ADDIE yang terdiri dari lima tahap yaitu analysis, design, development, implementation, dan evaluation. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah 35 peserta didik kelas VIII.7 salah satu satu SMP Negeri 1 Tanjungpinang. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah lembar validasi, lembar kepraktisan, dan lembar keefektifan media. Teknik analisis data menggunakan teknik campuran yaitu kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Hasil validasi ahli materi memperoleh penilaian dengam rata-rata 85,6% dengan kriteria sangat valid. Kemudian hasil praktikalitas dari uji coba peserta didik dan guru menunjukkan persentase 86,5% dengan kriteria sangat praktis. Selanjutnya, efektivitas produk diukur menggunakan n-gain score didapatkan perolehan nilai sebesar 0,61 dengan tingkat efektif sedang. Berdasarkan data yang didapatkan menunjukkan bahwa game adventure dengan konteks budaya melayu maritim untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah maetamatis pada siswa SMP meemnuhi kriteria valid, praktis, dan efektif sehingga layak digunakan sebagai media pembelajaran dalam proses pembelajaran matematik

    FOCUS GROUP DISCUSSION DALAM PENGELOLAAN SAMPAH BERBASIS KOMUNITAS DI BANK SAMPAH BERKAH SEI JANG KOTA TANJUNGPINANG

    Permasalahan pengelolaan sampah di Kota Tanjungpinang menjadi tantangan serius bagi upaya mewujudkan lingkungan yang bersih dan berkelanjutan. Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini bertujuan meningkatkan kesadaran, keterampilan, dan partisipasi warga dalam pengelolaan sampah berbasis komunitas melalui penerapan prinsip ekonomi sirkular. Metode yang digunakan meliputi penyuluhan, Focus Group Discussion (FGD), dan pendampingan teknis kepada pengurus serta masyarakat di Bank Sampah Berkah, Kelurahan Sei Jang. FGD berfungsi untuk mengidentifikasi permasalahan utama, seperti keterbatasan fasilitas, rendahnya keterampilan teknis, dan lemahnya jaringan pemasaran produk daur ulang. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan signifikan dalam perilaku pemilahan sampah rumah tangga, penguatan kapasitas pengurus, dan munculnya inovasi produk berbasis daur ulang, seperti kompos dan kerajinan plastik. Kegiatan ini juga berhasil memperluas jejaring kemitraan antara masyarakat, pemerintah, akademisi, dan pelaku usaha, yang menjadi kunci dalam mewujudkan sistem pengelolaan sampah berkelanjutan. Kesimpulannya, pendekatan partisipatif melalui FGD dan pendampingan berkelanjutan terbukti efektif dalam memperkuat pengelolaan sampah berbasis komunitas dan mendukung penerapan ekonomi sirkular di tingkat lokal. Model Bank Sampah Berkah Sei Jang diharapkan menjadi praktik baik yang dapat direplikasi di wilayah perkotaan lainnya di Indonesia

    ANALISIS SENYAWA BIOAKTIF DAN AKTIVITAS ANTIOKSIDAN EKSTRAK RUMPUT LAUT Boergesenia forbesii MENGGUNAAN PELARUT YANG BERBEDA

    Rumput laut merupakan salah satu jenis makroalga yang banyak sekali tumbuh dan berkembang di daerah perairan pesisir. Kandungan bahan aktif seperti antibakteri dan antioksidan yang banyak ditemukan pada rumput laut. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengetahui aktivitas antioksidan rumput laut Boergesenia Forbesii yang diekstraksi dengan tiga pelarut yang berbeda yaitu N-Heksan, etil asetat dan etanol. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan melihat perbedaan pelarut yang digunakan untuk proses ekstraksi pada rumput laut Boergesenia forbesii untuk mengetahui skrining fitokimia, uji kadar air, uji kadar abu dan uji aktivitas antioksdian. Hasil pengujian fitokimia pada ekstrak rumput laut Boergesenia forbesii dengan menggunakan 3 pelarut diperoleh hasil positif pada setiap senyawa (alkaloid, flavonoid, saponin, tanin, steroid, fenol dan glikosida). Hasil kadar air dan kadar abu semua ekstrak rumput laut dinyatakan aman dan baik karena tidak melebihi dari persyaratan parameter standar. Hasil analisis antioksidan menunjukkan bahwa aktivitas antioksidan ekstrak rumput laut Boergesenia forbesii yang diekstrak menggunakan pelarut N-Heksan, etil asetat dan etanol 96% memperoleh nilai IC₅₀ berturut-turut 137,264 ppm, 112,649 ppm, dan 99,44119 ppm. Hasil tersebut menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak rumput laut Boergesenia forbesii yang diekstrak menggunakan pelarut etanol yang memiliki aktivitas antioksidan kuat (IC₅₀ 99,44119 ppm)

    Community Participation in the Belitung Aspiration and Complaint Channel (BESADU) Program in Realizing Smart Governance in West Belitung Regency

    Community participation plays a vital role in determining the success of government programs and development planning, particularly in regions implementing smart city policies such as West Belitung Regency. Smart Governance, as one of the main dimensions of Smart City, aims to enhance the quality, transparency, and efficiency of public administration. This study focuses on the Belitung Aspiration and Complaint Channel (BESADU) Program an innovative initiative designed by the Regent and Deputy Regent of West Belitung to collect and respond to public aspirations and complaints regarding public services, bureaucratic management, and policy implementation. The objective of this study is to analyze the level and form of community participation in the BESADU program as an effort to realize Smart Governance. Using a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected through interviews, observation, documentation, and triangulation of data sources involving ten community respondents. The results indicate that community participation in the BESADU program is reflected in four indicators: intensive communication, conducive socio-economic-political-cultural climate, opportunities for participation, and freedom of creativity and initiative. The findings show that while the program has improved public service responsiveness and citizen engagement, there remain challenges such as the lack of system integration in complaint monitoring and uneven follow-up by local government units.     Role of Village Government in Combating Illegal Gold Mining (PETI) at the Batang Teso Irrigation Dam, Marsawa Village, Riau

    Illegal gold mining without a permit (PETI) at the Batang Teso Irrigation Dam in Marsawa Village, Kuantan Singingi Regency, Riau Province, has become a serious environmental and social issue due to its destructive impacts and lack of government supervision. The activity not only causes water pollution and ecosystem degradation but also endangers the health and safety of local communities. This research aims to analyze the role and involvement of the village government in mitigating illegal gold mining activities and to identify the collaborative strategies employed to control and prevent PETI in the Batang Teso area. Using a qualitative research approach combined with a literature review and case study method, data were collected through interviews with village officials, security forces, local communities, and related institutions, as well as through document analysis and field observations. The findings indicate that illegal mining has led to severe water contamination caused by mercury waste, the destruction of the irrigation system, and the decline of Batang Teso’s function as a community tourism site. Mitigation efforts have been conducted through cooperation between the village government, the Kuantan Singingi Police (Polres Kuansing), the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), and the Department of Environment. These efforts include strict enforcement actions, socialization programs, public education, and community empowerment to promote alternative livelihoods that are environmentally sustainable. The study concludes that strong synergy between the village government, law enforcement agencies, and the community plays a crucial role in reducing illegal mining activities. Continuous supervision, legal enforcement, and sustainable livelihood programs are essential to protect both the environment and public health around the Batang Teso Irrigation Dam

    Estimasi Biomassa Permukaan dan Stok Karbon Mangrove di Perairan Estuari Dompak, Kampung Dompak Lama, Kota Tanjungpinang

    Hutan mangrove memiliki tingkat penyerapan dan penyimpanan karbon yang tinggi, perhitungan stok karbon diperlukan untuk menghitung estimasi karbon yang tersimpan di suatu lokasi sebagai penentuan keterlibatannya dalam penurunan emisi gas rumah kaca. Studi ini bertujuan untuk mengestimasi biomassa permukaan dan stok karbon di Perairan Estuari Dompak dengan menggunakan perhitungan allometrik dari data above ground biomassa (AGB). Pengumpulan data dilaksanakan pada bulan Februari sampai dengan Maret 2023. Metode yang digunakan dalam pengambilan data penelitian ini adalah metode tanpa pemanenan (non-destructive) menggunakan pendekatan persamaan allometrik sesuai dengan SNI (standar Nasional Indonesia) 7724:2011 yang digunakan untuk mengetahui estimasi biomassa permukaan dan stok karbon mangrove. Data yang dikumpulkan berupa pengukuran diameter batang pohon, pancang, semai dan pengukuran tinggi pohon/kayu mati rebah atau berdiri. Berdasarkan hasil perhitungan, estimasi total biomassa permukaan mangrove sebesar 220,27 ton/ha, dengan estimasi stok karbon adalah 103,53 ton/ha. Estimasi stok karbon tertinggi terdapat di stasiun 1 yang merupakan area berdekatan dengan jembatan, yaitu sebesar 44.01 ton/ha, sedangkan estimasi stok karbon terendah terdapat di stasiun 2, yaitu sebesar 22.47 ton/ha yang merupakan area berdekatan dengan pemukiman masyarakat ke arah laut.Hutan mangrove memiliki tingkat penyerapan dan penyimpanan karbon yang tinggi, perhitungan stok karbon diperlukan untuk menghitung estimasi karbon yang tersimpan di suatu lokasi sebagai penentuan keterlibatannya dalam penurunan emisi gas rumah kaca.
