    Physical and Chemical Assessment of Agricultural Plant Residues from some farming systems for their sustainable utilisation.

    Agricultural residues, in general are parts of the plants left in the field after crops have been harvested or leaves that fall off as they age. Due to farming activities, large amounts of organic residues are generated daily. An adequate use of these residues in agricultural activities requires the characterization of their main properties. The chemical and physical characterization is important when planning the use and management of agricultural residues. In this study, chemical and physical properties of cocoa pod husk, senescent cocoa leaves, fresh and decaying banana pseudostem, fresh palm fronds, palm empty fruit bunches, palm male inflorescence and senescent rubber leaves were determined. The moisture content, pH, and total concentrations of P, S, K, Ca, Mg, Mn, Zn, Cu, and B as well as available levels of P, K and Mg were analysed. The available levels of P, K and Mg ranged between 0.03 and 0.39%, 0.47 and 8.81% and 0.04 and 0.20% respectively. The total levels of Ca, K, Mg and P respectively ranged between 0.16 – 2.47%, 0.50 – 10.32%, 0.16 – 0.95% and 0.07 – 0.51%. The B, Cu, Fe, Mn, S and Zn concentrations ranged respectively between 10.73 – 43.67 mg/kg, 9.07 – 61.13mg/kg, 100.67 – 1828.67mg/kg, 46.23 – 1717.33mg/kg, 1016.67 – 1800.67mg/kg and 28.57 – 422.00mg/kg.     Status of Phosphorous in Soil and Plants of Apple Orchads in Quetta Valley

    The study was planned to assess the phosphorous status of apple orchards around Quetta valley through soil and plant analysis. Two hundred soil samples were acquired from 40 different locations of 05 orchards at  0-15, 15-30, 30-45, 45-60, 60- 75 and 75-90 cm depths. The soil samples were analyzed for available phosphorous by AB-DTPA method. At the same time forty apple trees were selected for leaves samples and analyzed for plant phosphorous content by Rhoades, 1982 .AB-DTPA phosphorous in soil showed a sizeable variation ranging from 0.24 to 14.46 mg kg-1. Whereby plant analysis registered minimum phosphorous content 0.06% and the maximum phosphorous content 0.47% in apple plant leaves which confirms phosphorous concentration found deficient in apple orchards of Quetta valley

    Homestay for Community Based Tourism Development at Kampung Jelawang in Kelantan, Malaysia

    Community-based tourism (CBT) can ensure environmental, social and cultural sustainability of an area. The Malaysian homestay program was announced officially as a CBT product in 1995. Jelawang is one of the officially registered villages of Kelantan for homestay accommodations. Local people lifestyles, cultural heritage, traditional food, and local musical performances are attracting the guests of home stay accommodations in this village. The present study analyzes the potentials and opportunities of CBT development at Jelawang based on homestay accommodation through stakeholder consultations and communities perception. CBT implementation depends on the active participation of stakeholders- local communities, tourism organizations, and government institutions. The potentials situations of Jelawang to develop CBT activities are biodiversity, water catchments, ecotourism potential, ecosystem, environmental education, nature recreation, and easy access. The study recommended several initiatives including tourism packages, identified products, pricing and promotion, modified homestay, develop communication skill, training and research initiatives for CBT development at Jelawang. Finally, effective planning, financial allocation, managerial efficiency, and proper community participation will be ensuring CBT development at Jelawang which will benefit the local communities through their social and economic well beings

    The Revised Guidelines on Bancassurance Operation in Nigeria: Marketing Implications on Patronage of Insurance Products

    This study seeks to assess the marketing implication of the revised operational guidelines on bancassurance referral model in Nigeria particularly in terms of how the model can affect customers’ patronage of Insurance companies. The objectives of the study include; (i) to determine the influence of bancassurance referral on customers’ patronage of insurance products; (ii) to ascertain how customer loyalty moderate the influence of bancassurance referral on customers’ patronage of insurance products; and (iii) to assess how the perceived service quality of the deposit money banks moderate the influence of bancassurance referral on customers’ patronage of the insurance products. Quantitative survey research design was adopted for the study. By gathering primary data from 170 banks’ customers and 68 bancassurance desk officers of insurance companies using structured questionnaire; and using structural equation modelling for testing and analyzing the gathered datasets, findings revealed that bancassurance referral model has significant influence on customers’ patronage of insurance products and both customer loyalty and perceived service quality of the banks significantly moderate the influence of bancassurance referral model on customers’ patronage of the insurance products. It was recommended that insurance companies that want to go into bancassurance relationship with any bank in Nigeria should choose banks characterized by large number of loyal customers and high perceived service quality.             &nbsp

    Space Heating And Air Conditioning with Heat Exchanger Under Groundwater

    Globally buildings are responsible for approximately 40% of the total world annual energy consumption. Most of this energy is for the provision of lighting, heating, cooling and air conditioning. An increase in awareness of the environmental impact of CO2, NOx and CFCs emissions triggered a renewed interest in environmentally friendly cooling and heating technologies. Under the 1997 Montreal Protocol, governments agreed to phase out chemicals used as refrigerants that have the potential to destroy stratospheric ozone. It was therefore considered desirable to reduce energy consumption in order to decrease the rate of depletion of world energy reserves as well as the pollution to the environment. One way of reducing building energy consumption is to design buildings, which are more efficient in their use of energy for heating, lighting, cooling and ventilation. Passive measures, particularly natural or hybrid ventilation rather than air-conditioning, can dramatically reduce primary energy consumption. Therefore, promoting innovative renewable energy applications including the ground source energy may contribute to preservation of the ecosystem by reducing emissions at local and global levels. This will also contribute to the amelioration of environmental conditions by replacing conventional fuels with renewable energies that produce no air pollution or the greenhouse gases (GHGs). An approach is needed to integrate renewable energies in a way to achieve high building performance standards. However, because renewable energy sources are stochastic and geographically diffuse, their ability to match demand is determined by the adoption of one of the following two approaches: the utilisation of a capture area greater than that occupied by the community to be supplied, or the reduction of the community’s energy demands to a level commensurate with the locally available renewable resources. Ground source heat pump (GSHP) systems (also referred to as geothermal heat pump systems, earth-energy systems and GeoExchange systems) have received considerable attention in recent decades as an alternative energy source for residential and commercial space heating and cooling applications. The GSHP applications are one of three categories of geothermal energy resources as defined by ASHRAE and include high-temperature (>150°C) for electric power production, intermediate temperature (<150°C) for direct-use applications and GSHP applications (generally (<32°C). The GSHP applications are distinguished from the others by the fact that they operate at relatively low temperatures

    Contrary to the stereotypical notion that a "failed" state also results in complete economic collapse, Somalia is a classic example of a vibrant economy without any functioning government institutions. For the Somali people, the informal economy has emerged not only as a daily survival mechanism; it also represents their resiliency and determination to make the best out of the worst situations. In addition to serving as Somalia's socioeconomic lifeblood, informal economic activities like livestock trade and petty commerce have kept this country linked with the global economy despite its international political isolation. This paper highlights two important themes. The first is how the informal economy in Somalia and in many war-torn nations has served as an effective grassroots response to non-existent governing systems. The second is how the localization of politics based on religious principles and traditional legal structures have played a vital role in maintaining communal peace and social order

    Informal crime control measure remains a popular and major crime management strategy in most rural communities in Nigeria. Osanyin is among the major deities often involved in the resolution of crime-related matters. Although the curative power of Osanyin deity has been well-documented in the literature, there is paucity of scholarly research on its roles in crime management. Against this background, this study examined the utilization and role of Osanyin deity in crime management in Iseyin Town, Nigeria. The study was exploratory and cross-sectional in design. The rational choice theory was employed as the theoretical framework. Data were principally generated through key-informant and in-depth interview methods. Purposive and snowball sampling techniques were employed for the selection of five custodians of Osanyin deity and 35 patrons. Findings revealed that Osanyin deity was recognized as playing important roles in the maintenance of law and order in Iseyin town. The promptness ascribed to the deity in resolving criminal cases was the major factor accounting for its patronage. Also, the deity was mainly consulted to resolve cases bordering on property theft. The emergence of some fake custodians in recent times is casting doubts on the ability of Osanyin deity to effectively handle criminal matters

    Information Dynamics Towards Serious Game

    This paper is concerned with information dynamics towards serious game. This study demonstrates that the proposed methodology can provide useful information to analyze game and to predict the outcome, respectively, in terms of soccer and girl’ height based on information dynamic model.  A plausible prediction method for human height has been proposed by incorporating the information dynamic model. Girl’s height at 10 years old is predicted until 25 years old, by knowing her height growth rate at starting year.   It may be considered that this is a sort of breakthrough on game research: The information dynamic model has been mainly used to do post hoc analyses for the finished games, but it has also potential to predict the game outcome before the start, if initial conditions are given. As a popular and simple game, soccer has been analyzed and presented how advantage and certainty of game outcome depend on the time.   In the data analyses, as evaluation function scores in addition to goal, shoot, corner kick, or penalty kick are adopted to conduct refined analyses. The game patterns have been categorized into see-saw, one-sided, balanced and others, and is defined quantitatively, to promote understanding game.        &nbsp
