    Get PDF
Quality in the domain of education comprises a high-significance issue through the prism of socio-cultural and financial developments that are taking place on a national as well as global level. The improvement of educational quality could be achieved through the reinforcement of interaction between the students and the educationalists, showing not only short-term effects but long-term ones as well. In the present research, the views of 1204 primary, general, and special educationalists are explored, on a Pan-Hellenic extent, about the quality of education provided within the Greek Kindergartens. The educationalists who took part in the research were asked to evaluate the proposals regarding interactions that take place within the preschool domain. From the analysis of data, it became clear that the quality of interactions is affected by the gender of the educationalists, the years of teaching service, and the number of children in each Kindergarten class. Every educational institute, to provide a high-quality education ought to develop strategies that encourage interaction between the educationalists and the children, constantly urging them towards new, more creative steps.  Article visualizations

This study aimed to establish the influence of parent-teacher collaboration on the academic performance of pupils with Learning Disabilities (LD) in public primary schools in Migori County, Kenya. The study adopted a descriptive design. The study was guided by Constructivist Theory developed by Jerome Bruner (1966). The target population was 47 primary schools, 1000 pupils in grade three, 113 parents of pupils with learning disabilities, 47 grade 3 class teachers, and 47 head teachers in Migori County. A simple random sampling technique was used to select the primary schools. Grade three pupils, class teachers, parents, and head teachers were selected using a purposive sampling technique. The sample size consisted of 11 primary schools, 11 grade 3 class teachers, 11 head teachers, 55 grade 3 pupils, and 22 parents. Researcher-constructed questionnaires, pupil rating scales, and test and interview schedules were used to collect data. To establish the validity and reliability of the research instruments, a pilot study was carried out in one primary school in Migori County. The collected data were descriptively analyzed using means, frequencies, and percentages. Pearson product-moment correlation analysis was used to examine the nature of the relationships among the study variables. The results were presented using tables. The data from the interview schedule for the head teachers were analyzed thematically, and the results were incorporated into the quantitative findings. Findings indicated that effective collaboration between parents and teachers significantly enhanced academic performance. The study concluded that there was a positive correlation between parent-teacher collaboration and the academic performance of pupils with LD revealed a positive correlation, emphasizing the significance of collaborative efforts to elevate academic achievement. The study recommended that to strengthen collaborative efforts, it is imperative to foster a deeper partnership between teachers and parents. In a leadership role, head teachers need to take the lead in sensitizing both teachers and parents on the profound significance of parent-teacher collaboration for the academic performance of pupils with LD. Also, teachers and Ministry of Education officials in the county should create time to meet the parents and teachers to sensitize them about LD and their needs to improve the learning outcomes of such learners.  Article visualizations

    Get PDF
The adoption and implementation of distance education in the prison school context implies new roles for teachers, formal and non-formal learners and educational materials, while enhancing openness as an integral feature of a distance education environment. This study – through a participatory action research – seeks to explore how teachers have applied e-inclusion to enable inclusive online teaching/learning strategies, emphasizing the interaction of digital tool learners and teachers. Needs emerged that helped to clearly show the necessity of face-to-face teaching but also the existence of complementary distance education to prevent the digital divide from increasing the difficulties of students with special educational needs, in relation to the possibilities of distance education in prison schools. The investigation of the educational needs of institutionalised adults from their own perspective was defined as the basis for the creation of appropriate and effective educational material. The novelty of the material lies in the fact that it presents information in a way of active involvement of the trainees in the learning process. In the design of the multimodal educational material, the purpose and expected results were used, so that the trainee could evaluate their progress on their own. Our aim was for learners to be able to improve their knowledge across the whole range of teaching contents by developing cognitive and social skills.  Article visualizations

Appraisal of teachers’ ability to adhere to the national professional standards plays a significant role in ensuring their productivity in schools. However, in Makueni County, teacher productivity in public secondary schools is low. This study assessed the influence of appraisal of teachers’ adherence to national professional standards on teacher productivity in public secondary schools in Makueni County, Kenya. A mixed methodology and concurrent triangulation research design were adopted. The target population comprised 393 principals and 3420 teachers from the 393 public secondary schools in Makueni County totaling 3813 respondents from which a sample of 362 respondents was calculated using Yamane’s Formula. Stratified sampling was used to select all public secondary schools in all the nine sub-counties in Makueni County. From each sub-county, at least four schools were selected using simple random sampling. Simple random sampling was applied to select 39 principals considering schools that have registered high and low academic grades for the last five years. A total of 323 teachers were selected using a simple random method. A questionnaire was used to collect data from teachers whereas interview guides were used to gather qualitative data from principals. Data analysis began by identifying common themes. Qualitative data were analyzed thematically based on study objectives and presented in narrative forms. Quantitative data were analyzed inferentially using Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Analysis using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (Version 27) and presented using tables. The study of the levels of appraisal of teachers' adherence to national professional standards is not satisfactory to occasion improved productivity among teachers. The study recommends that principals should encourage teachers to understand different legal requirements in education, pursue further training, and have an inkling of all requirements of classroom pedagogy. This will go a long way in enhancing their professional acumen necessary for higher productivity.  Article visualizations

The study assessed the influence of continuous professional development programmes on the teaching methodologies of history teachers in senior secondary schools in Rivers State. Three research questions with corresponding three hypotheses guided the study. The study adopted descriptive survey designs. The population for the study consisted of 604 History teachers in public senior secondary schools in Rivers State. A retrieved sample was used for analysis, and there were 280 respondents. Stratified random sampling was used to stratify Rivers State into Rivers East, Rivers West and Rivers South East senatorial districts. Stage Quota sampling technique was applied to select History teachers from each senatorial district in Rivers State. The instrument constructed was a questionnaire titled “Influence of Continuous Professional Development Programmes on the Teaching Methodologies of History Teachers Questionnaire (ICPDPTMHTQ). The content and face validity instrument was validated by experts and History head teachers. Cronbach alpha was used to determine the reliability index of 0.80. Out of 302 copies of the instrument distributed to the respondents, 280 copies of the instruments were returned. Multiple Regression statistics method associated with ANOVA and t-test was used to answer research questions and test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that Continuous professional development significantly enhances teaching methods for history teachers in Rivers State. However, project-based learning, field trips, virtual tours, game-based learning, visual learning, and the Socratic method show no significant influence, indicated by high p-values and low coefficients. The study recommended that school administrators should be encouraged to offer CPD programmes that include training on innovative teaching strategies, like project-based learning and field trips, to enhance the overall effectiveness of history instruction.  Article visualizations

A LONGITUDINAL STUDY OF ANGLAIS QUESTIONS PAPERS IN THE BEPC CERTIFICATE EXAMINATIONS IN CAMEROON

    Get PDF
This paper analyses what and how the English Language (Anglais) was assessed at the BEPC certificate examinations in Cameroon over the period of 16 years (2009-2024). It considered Anglais question papers set under both the objective-based approach (2009 to 2016) and competency-based approach (2017 to 2024) so as to find out the change brought by the introduction of the newer approach. The content and statistical analyses of data have shown that the theoretical CBA assessment principles are yet to be fully implemented. Essential knowledge-wise, the effective implementation of the novel approach from 2018 has marked the end of testing pronunciation; it has introduced integrative testing (46.87%) in grammar (62.5%) and vocabulary (31.25%) in the forms of cloze passage and dialogue completions, with the old OBA discrete-point testing in the form of sentence completions resisting the change. Skills-wise, listening and speaking are unaccounted for in favour of reading comprehension and writing composition. While there is little change in what and how OBA and CBA assess reading comprehension, CBA has introduced new composition writing principles in structuring topics like context definition, instruction clarification and indicators or task specification, thus lengthening composition topics. The syllabus coverage in terms of situation assessment decreases as one goes from the first to the fifth situation under both OBA and CBA. Some suggestions and recommendations have been made to BEPC examination stakeholders for the effective implementation of CBA assessment principles.  Article visualizations

    Get PDF
The aim of this study is to examine the perceptions of organisational power distance and mushroom management of Physical Education Teachers according to their demographic characteristics. For this purpose, physical education teachers working in public and private schools in the province of Istanbul in the 2023-2024 academic year participated voluntarily. In the study, "personal information form", "Organisational Power Distance Scale" developed by Yorulmaz, Çolak, Altınkurt and Yılmaz (2018) and "Mushroom Management Scale" developed by Birincioğlu and Tekin (2018) were used. SPSS 25 package programme was used to analyse the data obtained. As a result of the normality test of the data obtained in the study, it was determined that the data showed normal distribution. Accordingly, the independent sample T-test and one-way ANOVA analysis were applied to the study. According to the findings of the study, it was determined that the mean organisational power distance scores of male teachers were higher than female teachers. As another result, in the inadequate communication subdimension of the mushroom management scale, the mean scores of teachers aged 30 and over were significantly higher than those of teachers aged 22-25. It was determined that teachers working in private schools had a high level of organisational power distance. It is thought that physical education teachers working in public schools can have more participation and voice through teachers' unions and other rights-seeking mechanisms, which leads them to perceive power distance lower.  Article visualizations

    Get PDF
For many years, many studies have shown the purpose of physical activity as a medium to improve one's physical health. However, it does not have enough studies on how physical activity can benefit an individual's psychological well-being. Although some researchers say physical activity can help reduce stress, people still wonder whether physical activity correlates with psychological well-being. This study stated that physical activity is considered one of the most important aspects of an individual's life. It stands as a firm block in improving general well-being and helps individuals feel motivated and relieved from stress. This study utilized the descriptive qualitative design and purposive sampling following the key informant interview, where the data is required straightforwardly from 25 people who encounter the phenomenon being investigated. They also applied code reliability thematic analysis in interpreting the data collected and distinguished common themes, topics, ideas, and meaning patterns, which resurface consistently in the interview session. Moreover, this research's key findings present the effectiveness of engaging in physical activity and considerations that can increase the benefit of improving one's psychological aspect.  Article visualizations
