ANALYSIS OF EXPRESSIVE AND RECEPTIVE KENYAN SIGN LANGUAGE SKILLS AMONG PRIMARY DEAF CHILDREN IN WESTERN REGION, KENYA
Research has shown that deaf children of hearing parents, who constitute 95% of the deaf community, find challenges in acquiring both sign and spoken languages. This study examined the competence of deaf children in Kenyan Sign Language. The study developed sign language tools in receptive and expressive vocabulary skills. These were sign order, conversation, placement and picture descriptive as a measure. In the majority of the assessment task, there were clear indicators of age effects, family background whether-deaf or hearing, and amount of contact with skilled signers. In the interview section, children tended to answer questions with short responses. The language was only reached at age ten. In a number of cases, simple questions were misunderstood and irrelevant answers were given. It was noted that the interaction with deaf children of deaf parents (DCDP) was very cordial as opposed to deaf children of hearing parents (DCHP). The picture description did not elicit proficient signing as was expected. The story description was not easy to understand and internalize because of the ambiguity of the children’s signing. This was because there was no indication of the protagonist. In sign order, ages ten to eleven did not seem to understand spatial grammar reliably. This test worked better in its receptive version. THE MEDIATING EFFECT OF SCIENTIFIC EPISTEMOLOGICAL BELIEFS ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CLASSROOM SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT AND ADAPTIVE LEARNING ENGAGEMENT OF SCIENCE STUDENTS
This study explored the potential mediating impact of scientific epistemological beliefs on the correlation between the classroom social environment and adaptive learning in the field of science. The researcher used a quantitative non-experimental approach using a correlational technique. The study was conducted in seven selected public schools in Davao City where senior high school students are present. There were two hundred ninety (290) grade 12 student participants in total. The researcher applied the five Likert Scaling Method wherein the respondents will choose between 1 - 5, 4.20 - 5.00 is very high and 1.00 - 1.79 is very low. Also, ethical procedures were observed. The data that were gathered from the Level of Adaptive Learning Engagement of Science Students showed high levels. In addition, The Correlations between Classroom Social Environment and Scientific Epistemological Beliefs of Science Students, The Correlations between Adaptive Learning Engagement and Classroom Social Environment, and The Correlations between Scientific Epistemological Beliefs of Science Students and Adaptive Learning Engagement also showed positive correlations. Meanwhile, the Level of Classroom Social Environment and Level of Epistemological Beliefs was found to be moderate in level. Therefore, there is a significant effect of the Mediating Effect of Scientific Epistemological Beliefs, but student adaptive learning engagement emerges as a concern to address challenges like low achievement, disinterest, alienation, and high dropout rates. HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT AND TEACHER ENGAGEMENT NEXUS: A STUDY OF PRIVATE SCHOOLS
This study comprehensively examines the human resource management practices implemented by administrators in private schools within the Ayawaso West Municipality of the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. It specifically highlights the critical aspects of academic staff recruitment, appraisal, and training. Utilizing the Resource-Based View (RBV), Herzberg’s Two-Factor Theory, and Human Capital Theory, a robust quantitative approach was adopted, gathering data through structured questionnaires completed by 100 respondents, including both school administrators and teachers. The analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics, such as frequencies and percentages, to effectively assess respondents' perceptions of various human resource practices. The findings compellingly demonstrate that effective human resource strategies involve the provision of comprehensive orientation and induction programs, targeted on-the-job training, and systematic training needs assessments. Moreover, recruitment and selection processes are enhanced by offering study leaves for further education, promoting initiative among teachers, and establishing a clearly defined reward management philosophy. Additionally, the study reveals that appraisal and training are strengthened through performance feedback, guidance and counseling services, and support with academic matters. Based on these findings, it is recommended, among others, that school administrators elevate their human resource strategies by incorporating continuous professional development opportunities and cultivating supportive work environments, both of which are essential for enhancing staff performance and retention. THE INTERSECTION OF PHYSICAL FORM AND WELL-BEING: PREDICTING HRQOL IN COLLEGE ATHLETES THROUGH MORPHOLOGICAL ANALYSIS
In the world of sports science and physical fitness, exploring the morphological profiles of athletes unlocks a deeper understanding of how body composition shapes performance, resilience, and long-term health outcomes, offering a fascinating glimpse into the human body's adaptation to intense physical demands. This research explores the morphological traits and their relation to the quality of life among college-level athletes and non-athletes in India, shedding light on the intricate interplay between physical attributes and overall well-being. The study, conducted at the National Institute of Medical Science (NIMS), Rajasthan, involves 120 male volunteers and employs a comprehensive set of anthropometric measurements and the SF-36 Health Survey for Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) analysis. The findings reveal notable differences in morphological characteristics between athletes and non-athletes, emphasizing lower body fat percentages and distinct body compositions in athletes. The HRQoL analysis indicates positive perceptions of health among athletes, with 60% reporting good health and 31.4% describing their health as excellent. However, challenges such as limited access to certain physical activities are identified. The study contributes valuable insights into the potential impact of diverse lifestyles on physical health, emphasizing the significance of active interventions by health professionals, coaches, and physiotherapists to improve the well-being of college athletes. This research not only holds significance within the sports community but also has broader implications for public health and wellness. By recognizing the long-term effects of sports participation on HRQoL and linking morphological characteristics to life quality, the study provides a foundation for tailoring interventions and support systems to address the unique needs of athletes and promote their overall well-being throughout and beyond their athletic careers. DISMANTLING AND ANALYSING MULTI-PARAGRAPHS TO IMPROVE THE USE OF PRESENT AND PAST TENSES IN WRITING AMONG COLLEGE STUDENTS
Grammar is the backbone of language, providing a set of rules and principles that govern the structure, formation, and usage of words and sentences. This study aims to “dismantle” paragraphs from non-friction material, learn the usage of present and past tenses in these sentence structures, and apply this knowledge in writing sentences containing present and past tenses. A pretest-post-test control group design was employed. The participants of this study would consist of 20 college students who were randomly assigned to a treatment and a control group. Both groups were exposed to the same classroom conditions except for the intervention. Only the treatment group was given intervention. The respondents’ scores were measured at two points, pre-test and post-test. This was followed by a semi-structured interview in which three participants from the treatment group were interviewed. The findings revealed improved participants’ use of present and past-tense writing based on the difference between the pretest and the post-test results. The interview data also revealed that the participants were able to construct more accurate sentences using these tenses. Interestingly, the study respondents said that this activity had made them pay close attention to sentence structures when they read materials in the English language. Exposing students to different genres and studying sentence structure thoroughly can help improve students' grammar, specifically present and past tense, in their writing. Article visualizations
