JOURNEY OF CHILDREN DIAGNOSED WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER FROM EARLY CHILDHOOD TO ADULTHOOD
Get PDFA meticulously crafted program for physical education and sports implementation holds promise as an effective strategy for mitigating certain risks associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Consequently, it stands to enhance not only physical fitness but also psychomotor, cognitive, and emotional development in affected children. It is widely acknowledged that physical education and sports exert a positive influence on various aspects of children's development, encompassing both physical and mental domains. Heightened engagement in physical activities correlates with improved physical health, cognitive prowess, and social and behavioral competencies. Moreover, empirical evidence suggests that structured exercise regimens contribute to enhancements in muscle and cardiovascular endurance, alongside bolstering physical strength and flexibility. This literature review endeavors to delve into the nexus between health and skill cultivation in children and adolescents grappling with ASD, elucidating potential interventions and the manifold benefits that accrue from participation in physical education and sports activities. The review conducted a systematic examination of pertinent literature across diverse databases, including PubMed, Medline, Google Scholar, and Ulakbim-Tübitak, encompassing original articles within the study's purview. Thus, it is posited that well-designed sports programs and physical education curricula hold promise in ameliorating ASD symptoms and augmenting the overall quality of life for affected children. FLYING WITHOUT WINGS: STORIES OF NON-PHYSICAL EDUCATION GRADUATES TEACHING PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Get PDFThe purpose of this study is to determine how non-physical education graduates who have physical education as their teaching load perceive their everyday teaching performance, knowing that it is not their field of specialization. This study will help us understand how they cope with the teaching challenges, knowing that their situation is aligned with the rampant job mismatches in the Philippines. This study will cover the stories of a non-physical education graduate teaching physical education, everyday challenges, teaching performance, resolution, and support from the school and others. This study is a qualitative research study. The respondents of this study are not physical education graduates, but they teach physical education in their schools. In this study, the researchers used a researcher-made instrument to assess the data, and then the researchers proceeded to analyze the data using the coding procedures. Upon conducting the study, the researcher found that this study proves that a non-physical education graduate who teaches physical education experienced significant circumstances in teaching the subject. STUDY HABITS AND STUDENT ONLINE ENGAGEMENT OF BACHELOR PHYSICAL EDUCATION OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MINDANAO, PHILIPPINES
Get PDFThe continuity of pre-pandemic student engagement in higher education institutions was put to the test by the new teaching method. This descriptive correlational quantitative research aims to determine the relationship between study habits and online engagement among bachelor of physical education students at the University of Mindanao. The data came from 203 first- through fourth-year university students who participated in stratified online and paper surveys. The statistical techniques used are mean, standard deviation and Pearson’s r. Findings revealed a high level of time management, class attendance and participation, general study and strategy, exam preparation, and note-taking. Also, researchers found a high student level of peer management, instructor and self-directed management and multimodal engagement. Moreover, the study revealed a significant correlation between the two variables. Evidently, study habits turn out to be effective and still be applied in a student online engagement setting. DISCOVERING ENGLISH PRONUNCIATION DIFFICULTIES AND STRATEGIES: A CASE AT TRA VINH UNIVERSITY
Get PDFPronunciation can take a crucial role in communication because unintelligible pronunciation may cause the conversers to misunderstand. Therefore, obtaining a clear accent plays a vital role in understanding the speakers' intended meaning. With this importance, the current study attempted to investigate the learners’ perception of English pronunciation and explore the pronunciation difficulties facing Vietnamese EFL students. Then, it also attempted to discover learners’ ideas on how they would like pronunciation to be instructed. In order to have the data for the investigation, the study applied the quantitative method by using a 5-point Likert scale to measure the level of students’ agreement in these three mentioned domains of investigation. A group of 49 second-year EFL students was employed at the School of Foreign Languages, School of Southern Khmer Language - Culture - Arts and Humanity, Tra Vinh University. They are studying English as a foreign language, and their major is English education. The results revealed that students agreed that learning pronunciation is difficult and strongly agreed with the ideas exhibited in the questionnaire on how pronunciation should be instructed. THE ROLE OF POWERPOINT IN FOSTERING ORAL PRESENTATION SKILLS AMONG ENGLISH-MAJORED STUDENTS
Get PDFIn an increasingly globalized world, effective oral presentation skills are essential for English-majored students, both academically and professionally. Furthermore, the integration of technology into education has become ubiquitous, and PowerPoint has emerged as a prominent tool for enhancing the effectiveness of oral presentations. This research study investigated the crucial role of PowerPoint in fostering oral presentation skills among English-majored students within the specific context of Van Hien University in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. With a sample size of 80 English-majored students in two separate classes, this research employed a mixed-methods approach with quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to comprehensively examine the influence of PowerPoint on the development of oral presentation competencies. The results indicate that while PowerPoint can enhance visual support and organization, its excessive use may detract from students' verbal communication skills. This paper also provides recommendations for educators on how to optimize its integration to benefit English-majored students' overall communication competence. Article visualizations
THE WASHBACK EFFECT OF THE MOROCCAN ENGLISH BACCALAUREATE EXAMINATION ON TEACHING PRACTICES
Get PDFThis study investigated the possible influence of the Moroccan English baccalaureate examination on what and how teachers teach in class. This study was carried out in the city of Fes, Morocco, where classroom observations were conducted in three high schools. These were followed by post-observation interviews and a structured questionnaire. The findings indicated that teachers’ choice of teaching materials, the content of their course, and their teaching methodology were affected by the examination. However, the teachers in the study revealed that they were subjected to different degrees of influence. Some teachers thought that it was necessary to adopt exam-oriented activities to meet the demands of the examinations, whereas others were aware of the limitations associated with concentrating on examination preparation and thus were not affected by it to a great extent. Based on those results, it was recommended that any reform of teaching materials or teaching methodology has to go hand in hand with a reform of the format and content of the English baccalaureate examination. EXPLORING STRATEGIES USED BY ENGLISH MAJORS IN CONSECUTIVE INTERPRETING FROM ENGLISH TO VIETNAMESE
Get PDFThis study was carried out to examine English majors’ strategies when practicing consecutive interpreting from English to Vietnamese. A questionnaire related to 22 commonly used consecutive interpreting procedures was employed in the study in order to obtain valid results. Then, the researchers presented the questionnaire to 80 respondents, who are second- and fourth-year English majors at Tra Vinh University’s Schools of Foreign Languages. Following the collection and analysis of the data, the study revealed that the participants tended to employ techniques aimed at enhancing their consecutive interpretation skills. Moreover, there was no distinction between the two participant groups’ frequent use of different types of strategies. Based on the results obtained and the suggestions made for EFL lecturers, English majors, and additional research, this study will be an invaluable resource for future research on consecutive interpretation strategies. THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN LIFELONG LEARNING TENDENCIES AND LIFE QUALITY OF PARENTS THAT GIVE SPECIAL CARE
Get PDFThe developments in the social, economic, technological, and health areas in society provide developments and changes in the care and welfare of disabled individuals. Studies in this area revealed the importance of learning in the realization of development and change and its effect on quality of life. One of the issues waiting for a solution is to integrate the disabled population with society and continue their lives without being cut off from social life, to be cared for correctly and on time, and to improve their quality of life in this context. For these reasons, it is important to investigate the disability together with the caregivers of the individual. The main purpose of this research is to examine the relationship between lifelong learning tendencies and the life quality of parents who provide special care. In addition, the relationship of these variables with sociodemographic variables such as age, gender, educational status, and disability rate and whether they show statistically significant differences are examined. This research is a quantitative study and the relational screening model is used. The sample group of the study consists of 85 voluntary disabled parents living in Fatsa district. "Personal Information Form", "Lifelong Learning Tendency Scale" and "Quality of Life Scale Turkish Version" are used to obtain the data. In the analysis of the data MS Excel and SPSS 26 package program are used. The normality of the distributions is checked using the Skewness and Kurtosis Analysis and the Shapiro-Wilk test. Pearson correlation analysis, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and independent sample t-test are used for normally distributed data. Spearman-Brown correlation analysis, Mann Whitney - U test, and Kruskal Wallis H tests are used for abnormally distributed data. As a result of the analyzes, it is determined that there is a moderate and positive significant relationship between the lifelong learning tendencies of the parents who care for the disabled individuals and their life quality. After the results obtained in the research are discussed in the light of the literature, suggestions are made. Article visualizations
EFFECT OF ICT INTEGRATION IN ENHANCING STORY GRAMMAR ACHIEVEMENT AMONG SECONDARY SCHOOL LEARNERS WITH HEARING IMPAIRMENT IN SELECTED COUNTIES, KENYA
Get PDFUsing a quasi-experimental research design merged with a descriptive survey design; the researcher examined the effect of ICT integration in enhancing story grammar achievement among secondary school learners with hearing impairment in the counties of Tharaka Nithi and Embu in Kenya. This study was guided by the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) theory. Purposively, a secondary school for learners with HI was picked from each county. All learners (40), 2 teachers teaching English and the principals from the two sampled schools were used as the sample size. Learners were presented with a Students Story Grammar Achievement Test (SSGAT) for pre- and post-test. Further, questionnaires were used to gather more data from both the learners and the English teachers, while principals were engaged in an open-ended interview. The study findings revealed that ICT integration enhances story grammar achievement (t = 2.415, p = 0.0180) among secondary school learners with hearing impairment. The researcher suggests monitoring the 2021 ICT policy on education and training implementation, educating teacher trainees on technology integration, reviewing school strategic plans, and digitalizing story grammar resources for learners with HI. EXPLORING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN REMEDIAL INSTRUCTIONS AND GRADE THREE LEARNER’S READING ABILITIES IN PUBLIC PRIMARY SCHOOLS IN RUARAKA NAIROBI CITY COUNTY, KENYA
Get PDFResearch has shown that a substantial number of school-age children experienced significant difficulties in learning how to read. Despite numerous interventions implemented in many Western countries to address this issue, children in Sub-Saharan Africa, such as Kenya, continued to struggle with poor reading capabilities. Specifically, the research focused on the influence of remedial instructions in addressing reading disabilities among grade three learners in Ruaraka, Nairobi County. The study was based on the Communicative Language Teaching Theory. A descriptive survey research design, employing a mixed-method research approach, was utilized. The research targeted 1,023 grade three learners, 12 head teachers, and 24 teachers within 12 primary schools in the Ruaraka sub-county. Purposive sampling was employed to select 5 schools with known interventions for learners with reading difficulties. Grade three learners were selected using the census method, while two teachers and one head teacher were conveniently sampled from each school. Data collection involved using questionnaires for grade three teachers, interview guides for head teachers, and the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) test for grade three learners. Quantitative data were analyzed using frequency distribution, percentages, chi-square, and correlations with the assistance of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (v23). Qualitative data were analyzed thematically, adhering to all ethical guidelines throughout the research process. The findings revealed that Remedial Teaching, while promising, did not exhibit a statistically significant impact on reading performance. The study concludes that selecting the right intervention strategy when seeking to improve the reading abilities of grade three students. The study recommends that a rigorous and detailed investigation be undertaken to discern the specific strengths and weaknesses of Remedial Teaching as an intervention strategy. This in-depth analysis can provide valuable insights into its efficacy in addressing reading disabilities. Article visualizations
