The objective of this study was to determine the links between governance configuration and academic performance. The study, conducted on 19 IPES in two regions, uses a combination of questionnaires, interviews, observations and secondary sources to identify governance configurations that promote academic performance. The latter is measured by the rate of  presence of the IPES in the ranking published by the Ministry of Higher Education in Cameroon. It appears that the School Council and the family council are the most represented bodies. The results highlight that governance configurations integrating various councils such as the boards of directors, establishment, pedagogical and departmental boards are the most effective in improving academic performance. The study argues that the diversity of governance mechanisms leads to a more effective achievement of the main mission of IPES which is vocational training.  Contractual theories such as positive agency theory, stakeholder theory and cognitive theories can be used to explain the performance of IPES in relation to their governance configuration. This approach differs from traditional models that favour single governance structures by offering a more holistic understanding of governance in education.   Article visualizations

Raising a child is a challenging experience, more so for a child living with HIV. The nature of the condition of a child goes with its complexities, including those which, from time to time, require clinical care and management. The complexities often put parents to the test of how to care for and manage such children. The study explored the experiences of parents of children with HIV as they clinically care for and manage the children in Chingola, Zambia. An interpretive phenomenological framework supported by qualitative approaches was used in the study. The parent participants were selected using a non-probability, homogeneous sampling purposive procedure. The sample was 10 parents of children with HIV drawn from various geographical locations in the study district. Qualitative data was collected using in-depth interviews and was analysed using a thematic analyses approach. The study revealed that parents were central in securing clinical services for their children. These involved HIV testing, access to ART clinic Support, observing hospital appointments, and receiving medical, education and training support on care for their children. As a result, parents found themselves dealing with child’s constant sicknesses and regularly soliciting medical support for the children. It was also found that parents faced challenges arising from initial reactions to the child’s condition, centering on failure to accept the child’s condition, feeling emotionally burdened and increasing desire to get the child get treatment. Additionally, the study revealed that parents were using various coping strategies in dealing with experiences, these involved collaboration with stakeholders like other parents, medical staff and counsellors. These provided clinical, moral and emotional support to parents as they cared for and managed their children on clinical-related issues. as well as regularly receiving education on how to care for children with HIV. Further, parents were working with faith-based groups in areas transporting the child to the hospital, meeting the cost of supplementary medication and receiving regular moral and emotional support, especially when children were hospitalized. However, it was evident from the study that parents required more support when dealing with hospital cases of their children from families, medical personnel and well-wishers, especially in meeting transportation costs, counselling, and supplementary feeding during hospitalization. The study recommends individual, family and group support in various aspects of clinical care of children, including counselling to minimize negative clinical, emotional and psychological challenges encountered as they deal with clinical issues surrounding their children.  Article visualizations

This study aimed to examine the effect of video-supported mental training on the technical development of male football players in the 12-14 age group. 24 male athletes aged 12-14 participated in the study voluntarily. Volunteers were divided into a physical training group (FG, n:12) and a physical training and mental training group (FZG, n:12). Volunteers are given 4 weeks and 3 days a week; FG, physical football training only; FZG, on the other hand, participated in mental training programs before each physical training. Mor-Christian Test Station was used for shooting, passing and dribbling ability test measurements and measurements were taken twice, on the first day (T1) and the last day (T2) of the 4-week training period. The data obtained was analyzed using the SPSS 22.00 statistical program. In the study, significance was obtained at the p<0.05 level between FG, T1 and T2 measurements and at the p<0.05 level between FZG, T1 and T2 measurements. As a result of the statistics performed between the groups, a significance level of p<0.05 was obtained between the results of the FZG group and FG. As a result, it is thought that video-supported mental training will make significant contributions to the development of basic technical skills of young football players. It is thought that applying mental training together with physical training may be effective in achieving the highest efficiency in athletes. Therefore, considering the benefits of mental training and its effects on performance, it can be recommended that mental training be applied together with physical training in training planning.  Article visualizations

    Get PDF
This study seeks to explore through a literature review the relationship between the impact of sleep and parenting practices on learning, highlighting the importance of interventions and parental programs to promote full cognitive development. Sleep quality is essential for children's cognitive and academic development, as sleep-related problems directly affect learning. Irregular habits and excessive use of electronic devices are factors that negatively impact children's sleep. Despite its importance, there is still a gap in educational and parental practices aimed at promoting sleep health, highlighting the urgency for greater awareness and intervention. A systematic review was conducted following the PRISMA methodology, with data collection using keywords related to children's sleep and parenting interventions. After screening, only two studies were included in the qualitative analysis. The studies confirm the connection between sleep quality and academic performance, emphasizing the effectiveness of interventions aimed at improving sleep. Methodological limitations are discussed, but the evidence highlights the importance of integrated strategies involving family, clinical context, and school. The study highlights the potential of interventions combined with parental programs to enhance learning and promote children's overall well-being. The research innovates by proposing an interdisciplinary and practical approach to addressing learning associated with sleep, with a direct impact on school performance and holistic development.  Article visualizations

TRANSFORMING THE ASSESSMENT LANDSCAPE: FROM CLOSED TO OPEN PRACTICES

    Get PDF
Globalization and the unexpected pandemic have highlighted the urgent need for educational transformation towards openness. Embracing openness in education is essential for ensuring equitable access to quality education, as a fundamental human right, especially in challenging circumstances. However, open educational practices are still underutilized in schools, leaving conventional education stagnant and closed. Student assessment plays a pivotal role in shaping school openness. Hence, this paper aims to investigate the impact of open assessment on fostering an open school environment, focused on student improvement rather than mere categorization based on scores. Through a literature review, our research highlights that implementing open forms of assessment can significantly contribute to promoting openness in schools. Open assessment methods help develop essential 21st-century learner skills and instil values such as democracy, human rights, and equity in meaningful ways.  Article visualizations
