PEMODELAN KESESUAIAN HABITAT IKAN PELAGIS BERBASIS KONDISI OSEANOGRAFI DI PERAIRAN PALABUHANRATU

    Get PDF
Palabuhanratu is a potential activity for capture fisheries in Sukabumi Regency. One of the dominant fish catches landed at this location is the pelagic fish species. The pelagic fish species has a schooling characteristic in migrating. Their distribution and abundance are influenced by several oceanographic parameters such as sea surface temperature, chlorophyll-a concentration, salinity, currents, and depth of the waters. The success of fishing efforts is very dependent on the accuracy in predicting the fishing area. Estimation of fishing areas can be done by understanding the condition of oceanographic parameters. Apart from in-situ measurement results, oceanographic parameter data can also utilize data from monitoring by remote sensing satellite sensors. This study examines the suitability of pelagic fish habitat based on oceanographic conditions measured by remote sensing satellite sensors. Habitat suitability analysis using Maximum Entropy (Maxent) modeling. The results of the analysis are then transformed to estimate potential fishing zones in the form of a model. The results obtained show the contribution and jackknife test values which state salinity as an oceanographic parameter that has the highest level of information in model development. The response curve shows the optimal chlorophyll-a parameters for pelagic fish in the range of 0.015 mg/m3 to 0.25 mg/m3, optimal temperature in the range of 26.3oC to 27.7oC, optimal current velocity of 0.37m/s, Optimal salinity ranges from 32.15 PSU to 32.5 PSU and optimal bathymetry at depths of 200 to 5000 meters

The increasing reduction in the quantity and diversity of fish catch from freshwater bodies, has become a global concern due to its impacts on human nutrition, economy, culture and zoological spectrum of the aquatic ecosystem. This study ascertained the ichthyofauna composition and diversity of Ovia River, Edo State and its capacity to sustain capture fisheries.  Fish catch from April, 2021 to March 2022 showed that Ovia River is congenial for 26 fish species of commercial importance, belonging to 5 orders, 13 families, 19 genera and 26 species. This is indicative of a rich diversity with Mormyridae dominant with 7 species, Cichlidae with 6 species, Mochokidae and Characidae with 2 species each, Ariidae, Bagridae, Channidae, Cyprinidae, Hepsetidae, Malapterunidae, Notopteridae, Pantodontidae and Schilbeidae with 1 species each. Fish species abundance showed that Cichlidae was the highest 61 individuals (39.61%), while Ariidae and Hepsetidae with 1 individual each (0.65%) were the least. The dominance and abundance of the highly priced Mormyridae and Cichlidae species implies that the water body has the capacity to sustain artisanal fisheries activities. This study has provided useful data for fisheries management and ecological studies of inland freshwater resources in Nigeria.

Morphological and growth aspects of Tigertooth croaker (Otolithes ruber) were examined in order to assess differences between stocks of this species in the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea. The minimum and maximum total lengths of this species were 17.78 cm and 47.99 cm in the Oman Sea and 17.05 cm and 38.64 cm in the Persian Gulf respectively. Morphological measurements of fish (total length, standard length, weight) and otolith (length, width, weight, age) were compared by analysis in R software. The One-way ANOVA for each parameter showed significant differences between morphological characteristics (P<0.05). PCA analysis showed that all morphometric parameters have a high value (91.23%) for regional discrimination and the MANOVA test indicated that two areas based on comparison of all morphological characteristics have a significant difference with P≤0.05. For the Oman Sea, the LWR equation was (w= 0.00523TL, 3.1844) and for the Persian Gulf, it was (w= 0.001794TL, 3.5309). KDE showed that the Oman Sea has a larger age density than the Persian Gulf and there is a significant difference between regions (P<0.05). Our results suggest that the O. ruber from the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea are distinct biological stocks, and should be differently managed

    Get PDF
Purse seine or purse seine is one of the dominant fishing tools for catching pelagic (surface) fish which operates by circling schools (schooling) of fish. In the process of circling a school of fish, the bottom must be crimped immediately and quickly using a crimping rope or what is usually called a "drawstring" so that the fish remain in the circle and do not escape. This research was conducted from August to October 2019 on the north coast of Pekalongan, Java Sea. The application of hydraulically powered capstan axle crimp rope pulling machines on small scale vessels is expected to increase effectiveness, operational safety and efficiency of time and energy. Especially for purse seine ships <30GT and can increase catches which in turn can increase fishermen's income. Based on the test results, it was found that the driving diesel RPM without a pulling load = 1303 / 1530 RPM; Maximum RPM of the winding capstan spool when without a pulling load = 45 / 51.5 RPM; Maximum speed of winding capstan spools without tension load = 40.5 / 58.5 meters/minute; RPM of the driving diesel when pulling the purse seine line = 1500 RPM; Maximum RPM of the capstan winder spool when pulling the purse seine line at an average load = 43.2 RPM; Maximum RPM of the capstan winder spool when pulling the heaviest load (maximum) purse seine crimp rope = 40.1 RPM; Maximum pulling speed of the towing machine at the average load of pulling the purse seine crimp rope = 40.07 meters/minute; Maximum pulling speed of the towing machine when the heaviest load is pulling the purse seine crimp rope = 37.2 meters/minute; Load towing capability = detected ± 1000kg
