    Survey on understanding of socio-demographic factors responsible for unmet need of family planning from the selected locality in Agra

    Despite the progress that has been recorded in area of family planning, an increasing number of women reporting the need for the contraceptives tells the urgency of the situation. Data collected from both developing and developed world put forth a whooping number as 120 million women who have reported that they are willing to delay the pregnancy but are not using any method of contraception. According to world health organization (WHO) Unmet need for family planning is defined as the percentage of women of reproductive age, either married or in a union, who have an unmet need for family planning. The concept of unmet need has already been defined through many studies, as it is the percentage of the women who wish to delay the childbirth but are not using any form of contraception. Since reporting of the unmet need of family planning depends upon the desire of the women to report such an issue which is still considered a taboo in Indian families. It is for this reason; unmet need is called as an inconsistent and fluid indicator of the reproductive potential of the women. It is postulated that, if the unmet need of the selected population is met through interventions, it could help in reducing the population and also help in bringing down child mortality in addition to maternal mortality and morbidity. This study from the selected location from Agra in Uttar Pradesh has brought in light certain observations among the women who were not using any method of contraception. We have through this study have reported that more than 73 percent of the women wanted to stop childbearing. Women who were using any of the choicest method of contraception, among them 34 percent of the women were reporting desire to become pregnant. 67 percent of the women wanted to delay the pregnancy for one to two years, 48 percent of the women from among the selected population in this category did not want to have any more children. The aim of this study was to establish a co-relation between various factors that exerts their affects on presence of unmet need for family planning and use of family planning methods with a reported decrease in pregnancy among the women who did not want any more children

    Oral cancer preventive potential of Polydatin: A nanoencapsulation approach

    Over the period, several medicinal plants are recognized as attractive sources of anti-cancer molecules. About 35,000 plant organisms have been tested for possible anticancer activities by the National Cancer Center (NCI).  Among them, reproducible anticancer behavior has been shown by around 3,000 plant organisms. Based on this information, we aimed to investigate the cancer preventive efficiency of Polydatin encapsulated PLGA nanoparticles (POL-PLGA-NPs) against 7,12 dimethylbenz (a) anthracene (DMBA) induced buccal pouch carcinogenesis by modulating the antioxidants process in male Syrian hamsters. Oral cancer was initiated on left side buccal pouches by applying DMBA (0.5%), (a known potent chemical carcinogen) on alternative days in a week (thrice a week) for a period of 14 weeks to provoke oral cancer.  Sequences of oral squamous cell carcinoma are noted to be manifested exhibiting the formation of incidence, size, mass and development of tumor presented as preneoplastic and neoplastic lesions in hamsters oral buccal pouch tissues.  At the same time, oral administration of POL-PLGA-NPs (30mg/kg.b.wt.) considerably increased glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and glutathione (GSH) levels in the buccal tissue thereby decreasing lipid peroxidation activity which resulted in neoplasms incidence in buccal tissue of DMBA painted animals. Thus, POL-PLGA-NPs activity seemed to be a potent cancer preventive agent

    Reporters founded that mycorrhizal association in plant kingdom improves the plant growth. The present attempt has been on the use of Mycorrhiza for Helianthus growth in stress condition of the adverse red soil of konkan region, India and other climatic factors. Earlier reporters for the purpose to avoid chemical fertilisers, founded that Deproteinised juice (DPJ) or foliage whey induces appropriate plant growth and enhance soil fertility. During present investigation, mycorrhiza from Costus sp application to soil of potted sunflower plants influence was compared with organic DPJ addition obtained from fenugreek foliage during the process of green crop fractionation (GCF) technique. This whey is randomly disposed during this technology of leaf protein preparation, so appropriate use of it is advised. Whether the mycorrhiza and DPJ combination treatment were feasible for seed germination and the seedling growth of the Helianthus plant, it was analysed and compared with control. Studies were experimented on the effect of mycorrhiza treated alone and DPJ treated alone whether improves the plant growth. DPJ if added with mycorrhiza in soil, showed significant rate of germination. In earlier research, it was elucidated that the DPJ contains phytohormones auxins, gibberellins and cytokinins in unknown quantity which boosts the plant growth comparative to mycorrhizal influence. The chlorophyll content of the DPJ treated plants enhanced as compared with control while the content showed no significant difference with mycorrhiza

    Technology-based applications are developed day by day in the whole world. But more of those are unusable for the visually impaired people. One of such applications, email has become an important and significant part of formal communication in the professional world. Thus, Voice Mail turns out to be an application through which visionless people can easily send or receive emails. The application uses “Voice to Text” and “Text to Voice” conversion to be usable for the visually impaired people. The system at first takes voice signals from the users as inputs, processes the signals and then converts that voice signals into the text. After that a text processing method is applied to convert the text into voice. Finally, the gmail server is used to connect the server with generating address to send or receive any mail. This application is useful for not only blind people but also for the normal people who always remain busy and doesn’t have time to type in keyboard. Moreover, this application is very much helpful and efficient in time utilization

    A multi-sensor based fire fighting robot with wireless control and visual system

    Firefighting bot is a kind of robot by which we can detect the fire and extinguish it at the same time. In our project, we built a kind of robot that can automatically detect the location of the fire and can reach closer to the affected point and extinguish it as soon as possible. The extra advantage of our project is we built the robot both in autonomous and remote control mode. The remote control part is pretty much different from the other project because we used an android application to control the robot from the outside through the WIFI. The application is not directly connected with the robot. The robot and the application are both connected to the same server so that the application can give the command from anywhere from the word and the robot will get that command from the server through the WIFI system

    Proximate Composition, Mineral Content and Secondary Metabolites of Three Medicinal Wild Fagonia Species

    Proximate composition of the aerial parts of three Fagonia species (Fagonia arabica L., F. mollis Delile and F. cretica L.) collected from different habitats were analyzed. Macro- and micro-elements as well as some secondary metabolites were estimated. The obtained results revealed that F. creticus contains appreciable levels of nutritive components considering that its nutritional value (351.06 kcal/100g dry wt.) was remarkably higher than that of F. arabica and F. mollis (327.99 and 293.07 kcal/100g dry wt., respectively). The concentration of Na was relatively the highest among the other estimated macroelements in the studied species followed by K, Ca and Mg, respectively while Fe was the highest microelement followed by Cu, Mn and Zn, respectively. The phytochemical composition revealed that methanolic extract of F. creticus was the richest in total alkaloids and flavonoids, while F. arabica found to be the richest in total phenolics and tannins

    The effects of preharvest LED light, melatonin and AVG treatments on the quality of postharvest snapdragon and vase life

    Snapdragon (Antirrhinum majus) is one of top ten fresh-cut flowers in the United States; however, its short vase life limits its marketability. The purposes of this study were to test the effects of LED light, exogenous melatonin and one ethylene production inhibitor, AVG, on the quality of pre-harvest snapdragon and the prolongation of vase life after post-harvesting. Our results showed that snapdragon treated with 10 h white light followed by 6 h blue light (WB) inhibited stem elongation and lengths of the inflorescences, reduced the number of florets and vase life. On the contrary, snapdragon treated with 10 h white light, 3 h red light, 3 h blue light (WRB) significantly promoted stem elongation, lengths of the inflorescences, and increased the size and number of florets. The lengths of stems and inflorescences increased significantly in all melatonin treatments while quantity and size of florets only increased with 200 µmol·L-1 melatonin application. Noticeably, vase life was significantly extended with 200 µmol·L-1 melatonin application and shortened with WB treatment. In contrast to melatonin, all AVG treatments resulted in decreases of the floret size; and changes in stem elongation and inflorescence length were only observed in the treatment with 100 µmol·L-1AVG. These results showed that pre-harvest treatment with WBR and melatonin can effectively improve the post-harvest quality of snapdragon flowers and 200 µmol·L-1 of melatonin extended their vase life

    Evaluation of antioxidant potential and anti-diabetic effect of ethanol seed extract of Garcinia kola (Bitter Kola) in albino rat

    The medicinal properties of plants have been investigated in the recent scientific world because of their potent antioxidant activities, mild side effects and economic viability. This study  evaluated the antioxidant property and  antidiabetic effect of ethanol seed extract of G. kola (bitter kola) on alloxan induced diabetic albino rats. The in-vitro antioxidant assay was done using standard methods. Thirty (36) albino rats were used for the in-vivo study and fasted for 16-18hours and thereafter induced diabetes with 150mg/ kg b.w. of alloxan monohydrate via intraperitoneal injection. The animals were divided into six groups of six (6) rats each. Group A was the normal control, group B was the positive control (treated with 5mg/kg b.w of glabeclamide), Group C was the negative control (untreated) and groups D through F were administered 500mg/kg, 250mg/kg and 125mg/kg of the extract respectively. The results showed 49.70% reduction in blood glucose level of the 500mg/kg extract treated group compared to the positive control (45.03 %) on the day 7. The antioxidant results showed a significant (p<0.05) dose dependent increase in its ability to scavenge free radicals. The results of this study suggested the use of G. kola seed for the treatment of free radical mediated diseases and management of diabetes

    Current investigations were carried out for the validation of in-vitro anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic property of leaves of Skimmia anquetilia using red blood cells membrane stabilization and protein denaturation methods respectively. Defatted ethylacetate extracts at different concentration levels (50, 100, 200 and 400 mg/ml) were used in these studies. Dose dependent inhibition of protein denaturation was found 92.41% at 400 mg/ml of extracts and 96.21 % at 100 mg/ml of acetyl salicylic acid as standard in antiarthritic study. Similarly, in membrane stabilization methods, maximum effect found 90.70 % at 400 mg/ml of extracts and 94.88 % at 100 mg/ml of diclofenac sodium as standard for anti-inflammatory evaluation. The results concluded that, ethyl acetate extract of S. anquetilia leaves has shown significant (*aP<0.05) anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic effects

    In-vitro anti-inflammatory and antioxidant potential of Triphala guggul tablets

    Current study investigated the in-vitro anti-inflammatory and antioxidant potential of successive extracts of a polyherbal formulation Lakshadi guggul tablet a combination of Indian medicinal plants viz. Commiphora mukul, Cissus quadrangularis, Laccifer lacca, Sida veronicaefolia, Terminalia arjuna and Withania somnifera. The studies were undertaken to assess the anti-inflammatory at doses levels of 200 mg and 400 mg/ml of each extract by in-vitro red blood cells membrane stabilization and antioxidant potential at doses levels of 125 μg, 250 μg and 500 μg/ml of each extract by DPPH free radical scavenging activity methods. In-vitro anti- inflammatory activity of extracts were found significant (aP<0.01, bP<0.05) red blood cells membrane stabilization effects with 66.40 % in methanol, 62.15 % in ethyl acetate, 59.39 % in chloroform extract, and 66.18% with standard drug diclofenac. Similarly, in-vitro antioxidant activity of Lakshadi guggul tablets extracts were found significant reduction in free radical scavenging activity in 49.60% in methanol, 48.10% in ethyl acetate extract and relatively similar to 52.21% of standard drugs. The results of these studies revealed that Lakshadi guggul have strong potential antioxidant and anti- inflammatory agents
