    Investigation of Industrial Structure Performances in The Hatay and Gaziantep Provinces During the Türkiye Eearthquakes on February 6, 2023

    The seismic events of magnitudes 7.7 and 7.6 that occurred in the Pazarcik and Elbistan districts of Kahramanmaras, respectively, resulted in a disastrous aftermath characterized by a substantial loss of life, injuries affecting a multitude of individuals, and extensive structural failures. The present investigation encompasses the comprehensive assessments carried out by research team pertaining to industrial structures in the wake of these catastrophic seismic events. These evaluations were centered on various categories of structures, including liquid storage tanks, silos designed for the storage of grain-like materials, prefabricated reinforced concrete structures, and low-rise steel industrial buildings. Wall buckling damage caused by the impulsive and convective effects of the fluid has been detected in liquid storage tanks. Additionally, one of the tanks at the oil storage facility has toppled on account of inadequate anchoring. Maize silos, displaying variations in design such as columnsupported and ground-supported configurations, displayed noticeable structural damage at their base connections. Additionally, the internal pressure generated on the silo walls during the seismic event led to structural rupture, causing the discharge of grain-like agricultural commodities. Various types of damage were also determined in precast structures. Inadequate connections between columns and beams, plastic hinges in columns, and collapse of infill walls are examples of such damage. The significance of connections in low-rise steel structures was also demonstrated in this earthquake. Furthermore, one contributing factor to structural damage is the significant discrepancy in stiffness between different orientations of such structures. The study clarifies both the manifestations of structural damages and their underlying causative factors related to strong ground motion, while also delineating recommended precautionary measures

    Enhancement of Cytotoxic and Apoptotic Activity Through Oolong Tea Extract-mediated CuO/Cu2O Nanoparticles

    The development of multifunctional nanoformulations with enhanced anticancer activity and drug delivery potential is of increasing scientific importance. In this study, we synthesized and characterized copper oxide nanoparticles mediated by oolong tea extract (OE-CuO/Cu2O NPs) using a variety of techniques, including TEM, XRD, FTIR, and UV–Vis spectroscopy, to assess their physical and chemical properties. Remarkably, the results revealed that OE/CuO NPs exhibited significantly enhanced anticancer activity compared to OE alone. The effects of OE and OE-CuO/Cu2O NPs were on cytotoxicity, apoptosis, and cell cycle progression. Furthermore, we assessed the impact of these nanostructures on CD44/24 antibodies, known as aggressive cell markers, following treatment. The green OE-CuO/Cu2O NPs displayed remarkable inhibitory effects on colon cancer HCT116 and breast cancer cells MCF-7 cells. It was shown that OE-CuO/Cu2O NPs reduced the production of the CD44 antibody, provided cell cycle arrest, and encouraged apoptosis. More specifically, it was discovered that these NPs caused MCF-7 cells to undergo apoptosis and G2/M phase cell cycle arrest. Additionally, drug delivery investigations were conducted to evaluate the potential of OE-CuO/Cu2O NPs as drug nanocarriers, further underscoring their promise in developing novel anticancer agents with significant cytotoxic, apoptotic, and drug delivery properties

    Sahand: A Software Fault-Prediction Method Using Autoencoder Neural Network and K-Means Algorithm

    Software is playing a growing role in many safety-critical applications, and software systems dependability is a major concern. Predicting faulty modules of software before the testing phase is one method for enhancing software reliability. The ability to predict and identify the faulty modules of software can lower software testing costs. Machine learning algorithms can be used to solve software fault prediction problem. Identifying the faulty modules of software with the maximum accuracy, precision, and performance are the main objectives of this study. A hybrid method combining the autoencoder and the K-means algorithm is utilized in this paper to develop a software fault predictor. The autoencoder algorithm, as a preprocessor, is used to select the effective attributes of the training dataset and consequently to reduce its size. Using an autoencoder with the K-means clustering method results in lower clustering error and time. Tests conducted on the standard NASA PROMIS data sets demonstrate that by removing the inefficient elements from the training data set, the proposed fault predictor has increased accuracy (96%) and precision (93%). The recall criteria provided by the proposed method is about 87%. Also, reducing the time necessary to create the software fault predictor is the other merit of this study

    A Bioinspired Test Generation Method Using Discretized and Modified Bat Optimization Algorithm

    The process of software development is incomplete without software testing. Software testing expenses account for almost half of all development expenses. The automation of the testing process is seen to be a technique for reducing the cost of software testing. An NP-complete optimization challenge is to generate the test data with the highest branch coverage in the shortest time. The primary goal of this research is to provide test data that covers all branches of a software unit. Increasing the convergence speed, the success rate, and the stability of the outcomes are other goals of this study. An efficient bioinspired technique is suggested in this study to automatically generate test data utilizing the discretized Bat Optimization Algorithm (BOA). Modifying and discretizing the BOA and adapting it to the test generation problem are the main contributions of this study. In the first stage of the proposed method, the source code of the input program is statistically analyzed to identify the branches and their predicates. Then, the developed discretized BOA iteratively generates effective test data. The fitness function was developed based on the program’s branch coverage. The proposed method was implemented along with the previous one. The experiments’ results indicated that the suggested method could generate test data with about 99.95% branch coverage with a limited amount of time (16 times lower than the time of similar algorithms); its success rate was 99.85% and the average number of required iterations to cover all branches is 4.70. Higher coverage, higher speed, and higher stability make the proposed method suitable as an efficient test generation method for real-world large software

    Atomistic Origins of Compound Semiconductor Synthesis with Computational Neuromorphic Engineering

    We propose the usage of multi-element bulk materials to mimic neural dynamics instead of atomically thin materials via the modeling of group II–IV compound semiconductor growth using vacancy defects and dopants by creating and annihilating one another like a complex artificial neural network, where each atom itself is the device in analogy to crossbar memory arrays, where each node is a device. We quantify the effects of atomistic variations in the electronic structure of an alloy semiconductor using a hybrid method composed of a semiempirical tight-binding method, density functional theory, Boltzmann transport theory, and a transfer-matrix method. We find that the artificial neural network resembles the neural transmission dynamics and, by proposing resistive switching in small areas with low energy consumption, we can increase the integration density similar to the human brain

    House Price Dynamics in Istanbul: District-level Analysis of Convergence Clubs, Spillovers, and Key Drivers

    This study analyzes the dynamics of house prices across Istanbul's districts using a unique dataset of house prices and socioeconomic characteristics from 2010Q1 to 2022Q1. The log-t convergence test identifies four convergence clubs, with their formation beginning after 2015, highlighting the heterogeneity within Istanbul's housing market. The spillover index shows moderate spillovers, predominantly flowing from less affluent to more affluent districts. Additionally, LASSO regression suggests that the formation of convergence clubs in Istanbul closely reflects the city's socioeconomic conditions and levels of material prosperity. Specifically, financial wealth, middle and low-socioeconomic status households, and the presence of certain retail chains (e.g., Mado, Starbucks, and Domino's Pizza) are significant factors in the formation of these clusters. Overall, the housing divide in Istanbul appears to be largely driven by income and socioeconomic class

    Sigmund Freud’un teorilerine dayanan psikanaliz, bilinçdışı fantazmaları esas alan disiplinlerarası bir dilim dalıdır. Bireyin ruh sağlığını, bilinç ve bilinçdışı düzeyinde zihinsel süreçlerini inceleyen bu psikoterapi yöntemi, bazı semptomlardan yola çıkarak yazara ve eserine dair yeni yaklaşımlar sergilemeyi amaçlar. Dünya edebiyatlarında da örnekleri görünen psikanalitik sanat ve edebiyat eleştirisi, son yıllarda ülkemizde önemli bir araştırma sahası hâline gelmiştir. Türk edebiyatında daha önce birçok şair ve yazarın eserlerine uygulanan bu edebiyat kuramına Abdülhak Şinasi Hisar’ın eserleri de ideal bir örnek niteliğindedir. Yazarın psiko-biyografisindeki yalnızlığı, kendisini toplumdan, dost çevresinden soyutlayan tavrı, neredeyse tüm hayatına hâkim olan mikrop hastalığı korkusu, teşrifat ve nezaket düşkünlüğü, evlilik/kadın fobisi, yemek konusundaki aşırı titizliği gibi birçok unsur, yazarın başta Çamlıca’daki Eniştemiz olmak üzere diğer romanlarına sirayet etmiş psikolojik bulgulardır. Bir kısmı, fobik ve depresif noktalara varan bu takıntılara yazarın roman kahramanlarından Hacı Vamık Efendi’de belirgin bir şekilde rastlarız. Bu çalışmada öncelikle psikanalitik edebiyat kuramının uygulama biçimleri ve çeşitleri hakkında bilgi verilerek teorik çerçeve belirlenecektir. Ardından Çamlıca’daki Eniştemiz romanındaki psikolojik bulgulardan, dostlarının ve tanıkların beyanatlarından yola çıkarak yazarın bazı tuhaf huylarının eserine ve roman kahramanına yansıma şekilleri psikanalitik açıdan tahlil edilecektir.Psychoanalysis is an interdisciplinary branch of science based on Sigmund Freud’s theories and subconscious fantasies. Psychoanalytic art and literary criticism, examples of which can be seen in world literature, has become an important field of research in our country in recent years. The works of Abdülhak Şinasi Hisar are ideal examples of this literary theory applied to the works of many poets and writers in Turkish literature. These obsessions, some of which reach phobic and depressive points, are clearly encountered in Hacı Vamık Efendi, one of the heroes novels. In this study, the psychological state of Abdülhak Şinasi Hisar will be examined based on the statements of his friends and witnesses and the ways in which some of his strange habits are reflected in the novel Çamlıca’daki Eniştemiz will be analyzed. In this study, the theoretical framework will be determined by providing information about the application forms and types of psychoanalytic literary theory. In addition, based on the findings in the novel Çamlıca’daki Eniştemiz and the statements of the authors’ friends and witnesses, the reflection of some strange habits on the work and the hero of the novel is analyzed from a psychoanalytical perspective

    Can Türkiye Ensure a Small-Scale Pax Turka through Its Defense Industry and Military Power?

    Türkiye’s relentless efforts to produce indigenous weapons have eventually turned into a success story. While the production of mid-range and mid-size advanced weapons is already concluded, the race for the most advanced and largest weapons is still underway. This study argues that Türkiye has partly ensured a Pax Turka in some conflicts, and the more sophisticated weapons the Turkish defense industry produces, the more the Pax Turka might be prevalent, at least in some parts of the region. A small-scale Pax Turka is likely because, first, the decisive factor for peace is military strength and industry, which Türkiye considerably has and is continuing to have. Second, Türkiye is eligible to lead friendly countries, and the latter may accept the former’s leadership due to various advantages as well as necessities. Third, Türkiye and regional countries, which are also buyers of Turkish weapons, have similar characteristics and are dependent on each other, compelling them to uphold peace with the help of Türkiye. The study also asserts that the scope of Pax Turka may expand in the 2030s

    Hukuk devletini otoriter, totaliter, faşist devletlerden ayıran iki nitelik vardır. İlki, özgür ve eşit yurttaşların seçim yoluyla kendilerine uygulanacak üstün kuralları yapacak siyasilere vekalet vermesidir. Cebri hukuk düzenine meşruiyet temin eden, kendi kendine yönetimin özünü oluşturan hukuk devletinin olmazsa olmaz koşulu olan bu unsur, demokratik ilke olarak adlandırılabilir. Diğer nitelik ise tüm kamu gücünün anayasal/yasal kurallara uygun olarak kullanılmasını zorunlu kılan yasallık ilkesidir. Yüksek Mahkemelerin herkesi bağlayan nihai kararları, yalnızca kuralların yapımında yurttaşların eşit katılımına izin vermediği için değil özerk ve sorumsuz hakimlerin kullandığı kamu gücünün her tür yaptırımdan muaf olması nedeniyle de hukuk devleti için sakıncalıdır. Makale hukukun üstünlüğünden meşruiyete, güçlü ve zayıf anayasa yargısından siyasi soruna kadar çok sayıda kavramı açıklamayı ve bu kavramların demokratik teoriyle ne kadar uyumlu olduğunu irdelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Bu bağlamda tespit edilen sorunlara çözüm önerisi olarak anayasal düzenin vesayet mercii haline gelen yüksek yargı yetkilerinin daraltılarak zayıf anayasa yargısına geçilmesi ve Meclise Anayasa Mahkemesi (AYM) kararlarını ortadan kaldırma yetkisinin tanınması önerilmiştir.Two qualities distinguish the rule of law from authoritarian, totalitarian, and fascist states. The first is that free and equal citizens, through elections, authorize politicians to make the superior rules to be applied to themselves. This element is the democracy principle. It is the sine qua non condition of the rule of law, which provides legitimacy to the coercive legal order and constitutes the essence of self-government. The other characteristic is the principle of legality, which obliges all public power to be exercised in accordance with constitutional/legal rules. The final judgments of the Supreme Courts, which are binding on everyone, are problematic for the rule of law not only because they do not allow equal participation of citizens in rule-making, but also because the public power exercised by autonomous and irresponsible judges is exempt from all sanctions. As a solution, this article proposes a weak constitutional adjudication by narrowing the powers of the high courts, which have become the custodians of constitutional order, and granting the Parliament the power to annul the decisions of the Constitutional Court
