Why Don’t Japanese Teachers Want to Pass the “#Teacher’s Baton”? : From Analysis of TALIS 2018
the causes of the teacher shortage is that teachers are too busy. In the
spring of 2021, a pre-service teacher accused too busy for their job in the
“#Teacher Baton Project” on Twitter, which is managed by the Ministry of
Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). However, it is
possible that the busyness of the profession is not the main reason for the
shortage of teachers, as most teachers probably know about the busyness
of the profession in advance, even before they start their jobs.
In this paper, the questionnaire item “If I could decide again, I would still
choose to work as a teacher” is positioned as an indicator of the awareness
of connecting the “#teacher baton”, and the determinants of this awareness
are analyzed.
The findings from the analysis of the TALIS 2018 data were as follows:
(1) it was the perception of treatment in terms of salary and media
recognition that made them want to become a teacher again; (2) there was
little statistical relationship between working hours and the status of the
class they were in charge of. The purpose of the “#Teacher Baton” was to
convey the appeal of the teaching profession, but in-service teachers are
basically attracted to the teaching profession. However, the reason why
they are hesitant to pass on the baton is because of the treatment they
receive, such as salary and treatment by the media.departmental bulletin pape

Progress and Challenges in Overseas Expansion by Major Japanese Restaurant Chains : Focusing on Yoshinoya HDʼs Taiwan Business
Currently, the restaurant industry in Japan is facing several major
challenges. One of the major challenges is the significant decrease in the
number of customers and the deterioration of business due to t-he spread
of the new coronavirus infection, as is well known. In addition, there is a
major issue that can be considered structural in the medium to long term.
The population of Japan is expected to decline to 86.74 million by 2060 due
to the serious decline in birthrate, and this is a serious problem of
population decline (i.e., market contraction). In other words, unlike the
population growth we have experienced up until the 20th century, Japan is
expected to experience a serious population decline in the medium to long
term, which will inevitably lead to a contraction in the restaurant market.
In the midst of these severe conditions in Japanʼs restaurant market, the
time has come for Japanʼs restaurant industry to seek new growth
opportunities in earnest. The growth opportunities will inevitably be in
overseas markets, especially in developing and emerging markets in Asia,
where population growth is rapid and incomes are rising rapidly.
This paper takes up Yoshinoya HDʼs overseas business development as a
research case and analyzes it with a focus on the following points. This
paper will focus on the following points:(1)overseas store development,
trends in profitability, and future issues, and (2) the actual situation
regarding the efficient selection of direct store development and franchise development.
This paper will examine how Yoshinoya HD has used these strategies to
develop its business in the restaurant markets of China, Taiwan, Hong
Kong, etc., and discuss the key points of the overseas strategies of
Japanese restaurant companies and the challenges of survival strategies
under these difficult conditions.departmental bulletin pape

Understanding Impulsive Buying Behavior of Fashion Products
The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of mobile shopping characteristics
and perceived body image on impulsive buying behaviors of fashion products. This study
examined personalization, ubiquity and security as the mobile shopping characteristics and
appearance evaluation and appearance orientation as the perceived body image. While most
researchers have applied a single factor model to measure impulsive buying, this study
applied Chang’s (2009) four domains to measure the impulsive buying (i.e., provocative,
reminder, affective, situational). The study population of this study was Korean consumers
who purchased fashion products through mobile applications at least once. By applying
the non-probability convenience sampling method, the study sample was drawn from the
panel of a multinational research company. The research company sent an email invitation
with the online survey link to its panel members in Korea. Four hundred and thirty-one
respondents completed the survey and data responses from 423 respondents were usable
for statistical analyses in this study. According to the results of the multiple regression
analysis, personalization and ubiquity of mobile shopping characteristics and appearance
orientation were positively associated with the provocative impulsive buying. Personalization
and security of mobile shopping characteristics and appearance orientation were positively
associated with the reminder impulsive buying. Personalization and ubiquity of mobile
shopping characteristics, appearance evaluation and appearance orientation were positively
associated with the affective impulsive buying. Finally, personalization of mobile shopping
characteristics, appearance evaluation and appearance orientation were positively associated
with situational impulsive buying. Based on these findings, implications will be suggested
and limitations will be discussed at the conference.departmental bulletin pape
Is Junior High School Studentsʼ Use of Shadow Education an Educational Investment Strategy or a Daily Necessity? : Analysis of Parent-child Pair Data
Although the use of shadow education has been positioned as an
educational investment strategy for children, mainly in the sociology of
education, recent discussions of relative poverty and child poverty suggest
that it is also a necessity for daily life. However, much of the previous
research has discussed shadow education only in the context of educational
investment strategies and poverty studies, respectively.
In this paper, we analyze data from a questionnaire survey of parents
with middle school children conducted in 2019 and matched with eighthgrade academic scores. The results revealed that(1)middle school
studentsʼ use of shadow education is divided into two aspects: “educational
investment strategy” and “necessities of life,” and(2)academic
performance of children from families with poverty as a reason remains
low. Having been able to present such evidence, this paper will have
significance as a basic resource for examining the need for out-of-school
education vouchers.departmental bulletin pape
