Development and Challenges of Electronic Commerce of Agricultural Products : A Case Study of Grape Farmers in the Matsumoto Highland Agricultural Cooperative
Get PDFSince 2020, with the spread of the new coronavirus, e-commerce has
become more widespread in Japanʼs agricultural trade, with more and
more consumers choosing e-commerce as one of their daily purchasing
methods. Also, in the post-H 1 N 1 coronavirus society, online purchases of
agricultural products are expected to grow as the number of single-person
households and elderly households in Japan increases. Thus, it is highly
likely that the online purchase of agricultural and food products will
continue to penetrate the lives of more and more consumers in the future.
In this paper, we will identify the efforts of grape farmers in agricultural
areas who have chosen to sell their products online as a way to promote
their sales.
The study area for this paper is the Matsumoto Highland Agricultural
Cooperative District in Nagano Prefecture. This is because the Matsumoto
region is blessed with a variety of high-quality agricultural products and is
relatively close to the Tokyo metropolitan area, making it one of the
leading agricultural production areas in Japan, and it also has the conditions
for the recent expansion of overseas exports of food and products and

Perceptions toward People with Disabilities: A Text Analysis of Open-Ended Survey Questions
Get PDFHow do undergraduate students enrolled in a social welfare course perceive people with
disabilities? This research shows the students’ understanding of people with disabilities
by analyzing their responses to open-ended questions. A questionnaire on the people with
disabilities was provided to 83 students in a “Social Welfare for People with Disabilities”
course at one university in Japan. The course is required for social welfare majors and is
a once-a week lecture for 15 weeks. The students answered the questionnaire at the first
lecture. A question asked them to describe what they imagine, in five simple sentences,
when they hear the phrase “people with disabilities”. The purposes for this survey were
to comprehend the knowledge and understanding of the students at the beginning of the
semester and to prepare the rest of the course for the beginning students. The responses
written by the students were analyzed using an open-source software for text mining,
called KH Coder. The textual analysis shows that the students’ perceptions toward people
with disabilities consist of five different clusters: they are 1）human beings, 2）having
some inabilities and difficulties, 3）requiring support from people around them, 4）difficult
to build a relationship with, and 5）facing prejudice and discrimination from people around
them. This study indicates that the students’ understanding of people with disabilities
was not enough to work as a professional supporting such people at the beginning of the
semester. The social welfare major students need to learn the “International Classification
of Functioning, Disability and Health” in order to understand the people they will work

Challenges and Responses Faced by Japanese Auto Parts Suppliers Expanding into China : Parts Suppliers Expanding into China
Get PDFAs is well known, the post-war development of the Japanese economy
has led to significant growth, especially in the automobile industry.
However, the limited automobile market in Japan became saturated at a
very early stage, and the rapid appreciation of the yen, which was
triggered by the Plaza Accord in 1985, caused Japan’s major industries,
especially the automobile industry, to expand their overseas investments.
Looking at the overseas expansion of Japanese companies (as a whole)
and the automobile industry, the overseas production ratio of Japanese
companies as a whole has been on an upward trend from 26.0% in 2002 to
33.9% in 2019, while the overseas production ratio of the automobile
industry has expanded significantly from 42.7% in 2002 to 66.5% in 2019.
