A Study on Community-based Welfare and Well-being
Welfare has traditionally focused on the negative aspects of social life. Additionally, the
response from welfare was not positive either. This tendency is remarkable even as
social disparities widen and social exclusion becomes more serious. However, the times,
environment, and circumstances are changing. Society has changed from an era of growth
to an era of a steady state, and the research environment encourages the consideration
of happiness and sustainability. Moreover, as a situation, in Japan, the government
is promoting community-based welfare as a policy. Under these circumstances, it is
becoming possible not only to take welfare passively but also to take it positively.
Thus, in this paper, the well-being of community-based welfare was discussed. After
examining the meaning of welfare, community-based welfare was divided into welfare
and well-being. Welfare is made up of life stocks, flows, and relationships, while well-being
shows the person’s way of being, existence, and self-actualization. Welfare is represented
by a triangle of lifeworld and system, and with the addition of well-being as the height,
it is named the “well-being triangular pyramid of community-based welfare.” Further, a
basic examination of the components of welfare was made. Additionally, a goal-fulfilling
approach was presented as a community-based welfare practice that creates well-being.
These are exploratory considerations and are the beginning of conducting practical
research on well-being in a community-based welfare. The challenge is to further improve
the accuracy of the research and to conduct its practical and research verification.
