A case study on lean occupational safety
Occupational illnesses and occupational injuries remain significant problems in contemporary countries. Especially in the fourth industrial revolution, with the changing technology and business model requirements, employees are at more risk because they have to be much faster and fulfill different functions. Due to present risks, dangerous working conditions, and inadequate measures, each year hundreds of thousands of people suffer from occupational illnesses or have occupational accidents. While occupational health and safety (OHS) practices protect employees, it is possible to increase productivity by ensuring that employees work in a safe and healthy work environment with the Lean Occupational Safety approach based on the Zero Accident principle. In this paper, a case study is presented by using a Lean-OHS model that it is an original model that incorporates continuous improvement by taking advantage of lean philosophy, tools and techniques while fulfilling the OHS principles. The research was carried out in a university's pharmacology and pharmaceuticals laboratory, and it improved working conditions and made the workplace safer by turning 18 of 20 threats into acceptable ones.Faculty of Pharmacy of Bezmialem Foundation UniversityWe would like to thank the dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy of Bezmialem Foundation University for supporting our work to test the established model in the Pharmaceutical and Pharmacology Laboratory
Dual-band Endfire Phased Array Antenna for mmWave 5G NR Bands Applications
27th International Workshop on Smart Antennas (WSA) -- MAR 17-19, 2024 -- Dresden, GERMANYA dual-band endfire antenna phased array suitable for 5G NR mmWave bands applications is presented in this paper. The antenna introduces a novel radiating aperture array analogy based on open-end substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) technology to achieve wide dual-band operation and vertical polarization radiation. The simulated -10 dB impedance bandwidth achieves 17.4 % (25.2-30 GHz) lower band and 12.4 % (36.4-41.2 GHz) higher band covering mmWave 5G NR bands; n257, n260, and n261 with isolation levels higher than 15 dB over the operating bands. The peak realized gain is 8.8 dBi and 11.8 dBi in the lower and higher bands, respectively. The mmWave array delivers a scanning angle of +/- 50 degrees and +/- 33 degrees for a realized endfire gain higher than 6.5 dBi and 8.5 dBi at 28 GHz and 39 GHz, respectively.IEEECONEX-Plus programme - Universidad Carlos III de Madrid; European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Sklodowska-Curie grant [801538]Dr. Mohammad Alibakhshikenari acknowledges support from the CONEX-Plus programme funded by Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Sklodowska-Curie grant agreement No. 801538
Impact of JLab data on the determination of GPDs at zero skewness and new insights from transition form factors N ? ?
It is well -established now that the generalized parton distributions (GPDs) at zero skewness are playing important roles in some physical process such as elastic electron -nucleon scattering, elastic (anti)neutrinonucleon scattering, and wide-angle Compton scattering (WACS) via various types of form factors (FFs). In this study, we are going to utilize the recent JLab measurements of the elastic electron -nucleon scattering reduced cross section, namely GMp12, as a touchstone to unravel the tension observed between the measurements of the WACS cross section and the data of the proton magnetic FF G p M . We also investigate the impact of GMp12 data on valence unpolarized GPDs H v q and E q v at zero skewness by performing some x 2 analyses of the related experimental data. By calculating the electric and scalar quadrupole ratios, R EM and R SM , and magnetic transition FF G(M)* / 3 G D related to the nucleon -to -delta ( N -> Delta) transition using the extracted GPDs and comparing the results with corresponding experimental measurements, we show that our results are in an excellent consistency with experiments, indicating the universality property of GPDs. We emphasize that the inclusion of these data in the future analysis of GPDs can significantly affect the extracted GPDs especially their uncertainties at smaller values of Q 2 .Theoretical Physics Department, CERNprovided for this research. IMPACT OF LEGAL AND REGULATORY QUALITIES ON FDI INFLOW: A COMPARISON OF DEVELOPED AND DEVELOPING COUNTRIES
The objective of this research is to determine the impact of legal and regulatory qualities on foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows and explore its impact in developed and developing countries, comparatively. The sample comprises data on FDI inflows from 66 countries, spanning the period 2008 to 2021. To estimate the regression parameters, the quantile regression with fixed effects model proposed by Machado and Santos Silva (2019) was employed. Additionally, the regression results were supported using random effects and fixed effects models with Driscoll-Kraay (1998) standard errors. The results of the quantile regression analysis reveal that legal and regulatory qualities have a positively significant effect on FDI inflows. This impact is greater in developing countries than in developed countries, and the discrepancy increases with higher FDI levels. These findings hold important policy implications for decision-makers. To attract FDI, particularly in developing countries, it is crucial to strengthen legal systems by safeguarding property rights, establishing contractual certainty, and implementing effective dispute resolution mechanisms. More so, efforts should be taken to reduce rent-seeking behavior and prevent powerful groups from receiving unfair advantages. Failure to address these issues may increase the risks and impede a country's economic development in the long run
Multi-phase sinusoidal oscillator design based on first-order shadow filters
A novel structure of multi -phase sinusoidal oscillator is introduced in this work. Its realization is based on the employment of the shadow filtering technique, which offers the benefit of the independent tuning of the oscillation frequency as well as of the condition of oscillation through external amplifiers. The core of the oscillator remains unchanged during the tuning process and, therefore, the introduced concept achieves design flexibility and modularity. A design example is provided, where the implementation of the oscillator is performed through the utilization of Current Feedback Operational Amplifiers as active elements, and the behavior of the oscillator is evaluated through simulation results obtained using the OrCAD PSpice suite. In addition, the provided experimental results support the findings of this work
The Transformation of LGBTQ plus Relationships in Turkey from Digital Dating to Digital Violence
PurposeThis study aims at ascertaining the kinds of violence LGBTQ + individuals suffer in relationships formed via dating apps and how this violence arises, as well as the differences in coping based on age, ethnicity, and gender identity.MethodsThe data for this qualitative study were collected using 50 face-to-face in-depth interviews with LGBTQ + persons between the ages of 18-55 living in Istanbul.ResultsViolence includes physical and sexual assault, hate speech, hate crime and romance fraud. Young people ages 18 to 24, trans women and of different ethnicities encountered more than one type of violence concurrently. Older people ages 42 to 55 more often experienced romance fraud, whereby they had to provide financial support to their partners despite not wanting to stay in the relationship. While coping strategies varied, trans women and LGBTQ + persons having different ethnic origins tended to accept and internalize their situations, primarily due to being marginalized by the healthcare services and law enforcement. Subjects ages 42 to 55 accepted the economic consequences of romance fraud since they felt there was no other way to have the relationship they desired.ConclusionsAge, ethnicity and gender identity were the major factors in the type and severity of violence arising in relationships formed via dating apps. Research shows that dating apps intrinsically do not spawn the violence directed at LGBTQ + people. Rather it is homophobic, transphobic or xenophobic state practices that lead to violence against the LGBTQ + community

The research, which adopts a quantitative approach, was conducted with 508 participants. A questionnaire survey was conducted; Motivation Feedback Scale, Motivation Appraisal Scale and Reward Scale were used. As a result of the research, no statistically significant difference was found in the variables of marital status and total working time. Demographic factors such as gender, age, education level, sector, position and length of service in the current organization were found to be determinant in the relationship between rewarding practices and motivation. Significant differences were found between age groups in the physical needs dimension. Master's degree graduates were found to have higher levels of self-actualization needs. Factors such as sector, position and working time modulated the effect of reward practices on motivation. Especially the differences in reward-job satisfaction and expected reward-motivation dimensions were associated with these factors. The study revealed that reward practices increase employee motivation and there are significant positive relationships between these practices; however, the effect of reward practices is shaped by demographic factors
THE REMUNERATION-PERFORMANCE RELATIONSHIP IN CORPORATE GOVERNANCE: EVIDENCE FROM BOARD MEMBERS’ REMUNERATION AND FIRM PERFORMANCE
The board of directors is an important corporate governance mechanism as it is responsible for the operation of a firm and protects the value of the investment made by investors in the firm. Therefore, board members should be supplied with an appropriate incentive to properly discharge their duties. One of the most important incentive mechanisms is remuneration. This study aims to reveal the effect of board members’ remuneration on the firm performance. Regression analysis was performed to test the hypotheses. 210 firm-year observations obtained from 76 non-financial firms traded in the BIST 100 between the 2018-2020 period were used. The indicators of firm performance return on assets, return on equity, and earnings per share. As a consequence of the study, the relationship between board members' remuneration and firm performance was found to be positive and statistically significant. These results show that the board members' remuneration is a strong incentive used to increase the firm performance and that a suitable remuneration policy should be established for directors
