Recognition of emotional face expressions in patients with restless legs syndrome
Objective: Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is one of the commonest neurologic diseases. Along with sensory and motor symptoms, cognitive impairment and psychiatric features can be seen with RLS. The present study, was planned to look for evidence of cognitive impairment by evaluating facial emotion recognition (FER) in patients with RLS. Methods: In this study, 80 patients with RLS and 50 healthy controls (HCs) were included. Demographic data were recorded. All patients with RLS and HCs were tested with Beck anxiety inventory (BAI), Beck depression inventory (BDI) and with Ekman’s test for recognition of facial emotions. Results: Sixty-three of the patients with RLS and 37 of the HCs were female. The mean age of the patients was 45.41 ± 8.24, and the mean age of HCs was 43.12 ± 10.35. The patients and HCs were similar regarding sex, age, educational status, and marital status. Patients with RLS had FER difficulties comparing HCs. There was a negative correlation between Ekman’s test scores and BDI (r = ?0.311, p < 0.001) and BAI scores (r = ?0.379, p < 0.001). Conclusion: FER is an invaluable research topic regarding cognitive function in RLS, which may help us develop different perspectives in terms of revealing the pathophysiology and is very important for the well-being of the patients’ social interactions. © 2022 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC
Recent trends and developments in protection systems for microgrids incorporating distributed generation
Microgrids are integral to power grids; they enhance grid reliability by integrating distributed generators (DGs) to fulfill the local load requirements, lowering energy generation costs, and providing eco-friendly energy resources to reduce carbon emissions. Despite their benefits, new capabilities also introduce protection-related complexities, including bidirectional power flow, varying fault currents, false tripping, relay reach limitations, coordination issues, and the requirement for proper grounding. This article offers a detailed review of protection issues in AC, DC, and hybrid AC-DC microgrids, investigating existing approaches to address these issues. Furthermore, the constraints and hurdles associated with these approaches and the future trends and intelligent approaches required to develop a reliable and efficient protection strategy are also identified in this article.Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) [118E307]; Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) [PSF-TUBITAK/Eng/C-NUST(13)]This work was supported by the Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF)-collaborative research grant #118E307 and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) PSF-TUBITAK/Eng/C-NUST(13)

The MIMO design consists of eight L-shaped coupled slot antenna elements based on stepped impedance resonators (SIRs) that can generate resonances to achieve wide operating bandwidth. The simulated results of the MIMO system show a -6 dB wide impedance bandwidth of 47% ranging from 3.25 to 5.2 GHz and inter-element isolation level of greater than 12 dB have been obtained for each antenna element with an envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) below 0.05 providing a reliable anti-interference for the MIMO antenna system. In addition, the simulated total efficiencies are higher than 50% across the 5G NR bands; n77 (3.3-4.2 GHz), n78 (3.3-3.8 GHz), and n79 (4.4-5 GHz). © 2024 IEEE.Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, UC3M; Horizon 2020; H2020 Marie Sk?odowska-Curie Actions, MSCA, (801538); H2020 Marie Sk?odowska-Curie Actions, MSC
GENETIC CHARACTERIZATION OF RELICT ENDEMIC LIQUIDAMBAR ORIENTALIS (ALTINGIACEAE) POPULATIONS
Liquidambar orientalis, a relict endemic species, is distributed in the south-west of Turkey. The natural spread areas of the species have been decreasing since the early 1900s. This poses a great threat to the future and genetic diversity of the species. In this study, the genetic diversity of a total of 190 individuals in ten populations was examined with ten polymorphic ISSR primers. Data analysis was performed using POPGENE ver. 1.32 and GenAlEx 6.503 softwares. According to the results of the analysis, a total of 271 loci were identified. For the ten populations, the rate of polymorphic loci ranged from 21.03% to 34.69%. The mean number of observed alleles (Na) and mean number of effective alleles (Ne) were found as 1.98 ± 0.13 and 1.47 ± 24 0.37, respectively. Nei's genetic diversity values (h) ranged from 0.07 ± 0.15 to 0.12 ± 0.18. According to the results of Molecular Analysis of Variance (AMOVA) and POPGENE ver. 1.32 analysis, it was determined that the main contribution to the genetic variance originated from among the populations. In addition, the gene flow level (NM) was found to be low with a value of 0.27 per generation

Biological and mechanical evaluation of cinnamaldehyde doped liquid crystal-polymer composite membranes
In this study cinnamaldehyde (CA) doped polyurethane cholesteryl pelargonate cholesteric liquid crystal composite membranes were produced and their properties were examined for use in biological applications. The relationship between the blood coagulation and protein adsorption was studied and the results showed that increasing CA concentration allowed an improvement in biological properties of them. Additionally, the effect of CA on the hyrophobicity of these membranes was investigated by determining water holding capacity, contact angles. The mechanical strength of these membranes were determined and it was found that their strength increased and the ability to elongate decreased with an increasing CA dopant concentration
Radiation Pattern Extrapolation through Generative Adversarial Network
IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (APS); Italian National Committee (ITNC); The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers; US National Committee (USNC) of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI)2024 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation and INC/USNCURSI Radio Science Meeting, AP-S/INC-USNC-URSI 2024 -- 14 July 2024 through 19 July 2024 -- Florence -- 203041Antenna designs play a crucial role in wireless communication systems where high-performance specifications are greatly required. The radiation pattern (RP) specification in both the E-plane and H-plane is important, as it connects the antenna gain along a given direction. This performance is calculated in the entire bandwidth for various frequencies and is time-consuming. To speed up these simulations, a new approach with the help of a generative adversarial network (GAN) is presented, leading to the prediction of the expected radiation pattern outcomes for the determined frequencies. This method is verified for two previously optimized antennas, one operating between 8.8-10.1 GHz and the other working in the 11.3-13.16 G Hz band. The experimental simulation results prove that the mean absolute error is less than 0.35, which yields suitable accuracy for RP predictions. © 2024 IEEE
Properties of the ground and excited states of triply heavy spin-1/2 baryons
We study the triply heavy spin-1/2 baryons with quark contents ccb and bbc, and calculate their mass and residue using QCD sum rules. In the calculations, we consider the ground (1 S), first orbitally excited (1P) and first radially excited (2 S) states. Aiming to achieve higher accuracies in the results, we perform the computations by taking into account the non-perturbative operators up to eight mass dimensions. We compare our results with the predictions of other theoretical studies existing in the literature. The obtained results may help experimental groups in their search for these yet unseen, but previously predicted by the quark model, interesting particles.Iran National Science Foundation [4025036]; Iran National Science Foundation (INSF)K.
