This paper focuses on the journey of Ruy Pérez de Viedma, his fiancee Zoraida and several of his former captive fellows, from Algiers to Spain, as told by Captive Captain himself in Quixote, I, XLI. The study try to show the high accuracy of his account both in geographical and nautical aspects. That allows to correct several notes of Quixote editions but above all to pose the question of verisimilitude as the core of Cervantes' poetics, and also its relationship to admiration and exemplariness. The conclusion is that Captive's Tale is not merely a digression out of the main line of the novel, but a deliberate reversal of chivalric romances, in moral as in literary terms. Thus, the Captive Captain proves to be a true counterpoint to Don Quixote.

This article focuses on the last chapter of Don Quixote and offers a different reading of and the commonly acclaimed regain of sanity of the knight-errant of La Mancha. The entire life of Don Quixote has been conditioned by books, they are his essence and his guide. If his life was but an imitation of the great fictional heroes portrayed in chivalry novels, so will his death be an imitation of the same models. It is helpful to bear in mind the constant ironic and festive tone that is predominant throughout the novel. Why should the last chapter be different? This analysis will take into consideration the tone of doubt and irony in the narration of Don Quixote's recovery of reason, and will thus offer us a different reading of the last scene, which is more coherent with the entire Cervantine character: there will be coherence of his being (Alonso Quijano), with his life (Don Quixote) and with his death (Alonso Quijano the Good).En este artículo se estudia el ultimo capitulo de El Quijote y la supuesta recuperación de la cordura por parte del hidalgo manchego.

This study intends to demonstrate how the dispute between the Classic and Modem thought is constituted in a crucial aspect in the self-construction and deconstruction of Don Quixote's identity, whom in order to attain his goals, embarks on a process of imitation to go beyond his models in order to branch off in challenge of them in tension with their flattery, as well as in his own self-flattery based on his chivalrous attributes. After analyzing the unfavorable circumstances of his century for the exercise of arms, in addition to those derived from their errors in the imitative process and from their own particular deficiencies, the insurmountable divergences between his emulator speech and the reality, lead him to a fictitious inner defeat. This will only be apparent, when obtaining the greater victory - self-defeat - after freeing themselves of imitiatio and later in his death, he will surpass his previous models. He will authenticate his final victory by attaining his objectives of fame and glory after his death, by his contributions in maintaining the humanistic flame alive and by having found the perfect historian who will tell his story to later generations.

This paper analyses the English translations of Don Quixote published between 1612 and 1774 in order to examine its reception in Britain during that period. Indeed the prologues written by the translators did had a deep impact on British readers in those two centuries, in which Cervantes became greatly influential upon English playwrights and novelists. Shelton's translation (1612) presented Don Quixote as a piece of satire, a perception that persisted along the 17th century; Motteaux's translation (1700) portrayed it as a parody, and Smollett's version (1755) as the model of knightly morals.

Different episodes of Don Quixote are shown on the front of drawers of a Flemish cabinet dated at the end of the nineteenth Century. The research of the printed sources used, most of them from English and French editions of the book, and the aparently tendence to choose only pleasant items, always in outdoors scenes, shows the fashionable taste of the "Spanish style" of those days, when the thirth Centenary of the first edition was arriving.
