No full textThe kind of procedures used in his speeches (R. VIII 560 e-e), whose intention is to eradicate the virtue of σωφροσύνη, is similar to that one used by the speakers of the seditious men in Thuc. III 85, 4-5. These passages describe the employment of axiological terms for the judgements of values analyzed by an observer who pretends to be impartial. The comparison with cases of theoretical debate or with others in which spontaneity rules over the discussion permits to understand the inversion reported by Thucydides and Plato.No disponibl
Pervivencia del grafema K en la onomástica latina epigráfica
No full textThis paper deals with the constant use of the graphic symbol K in Latin epigraphy over a long period of time (VII-VI B.C.-VII-VIII A.D.). Evidence has been divided in two groups: that which relates to the alphabetical symbol, and that which deals with the letter as the first, the middle or the final syllable of a common or proper name, that are in this case anthroponyms, toponyms, ethnic or theonyms.
This study increases the number of names that have so far been recorded in dictionaries, and provides extensive information on their distribution, vowel quantity, as well as on the phonetic, semantic, etymological and chronological fields.No disponibl
El Jacinto de Euforión y el problema del élegos
No full textThe purpose of this paper is to expound how Euphorion cannot be considered an elegiarum scriptor. In his poem Hyakinthos, this poeta doctus includes several elegiac themes which make us think of a ritual elegiac frame (Hyakinthos, Adonis, Hylas), where the death of μάκαιροι in the prime of beauty and youth becomes insistent. This poem is also a good proof of how Latin elegiacs took up euphorian items, though not necessarily their hexametric verse. And this causes confusion in those who believed in an elegiac Euphorion, that is, in Latin and Greek grammarians and lexicographers.No disponibl
En torno a la composición en la prosa médica griega antigua
No full textThis paper tries to show the proliferation of compounds in this kind of scientific prose. Compounds with the prefix δυσ- are analyzed in Hippocrates and Galen’s works, insistence being made on those terms which show a higher frequency index and on those which, on account of their peculiarity, do not appear in any dictionary or lexicon. The possibility of a word-formation process applied to the content takes shape in this instance. The intensification of the basic notion, its antonymic-semantic alteration, and its absence and deprivation are very marked functions of the mentioned prefix.No disponibl

No full textSatyrus —second half of 3rd century B. C.— is the author of the longest biography of the Hellenistic period: the Life of Euripides, written as a dialogue and transmitted by P. Oxy. 1176. The authoress of this paper studies the language of this work from the linguistic point of view, that is phonetics, morphology, syntax and lexicon. No full textThe aim of this paper is lo study a fragment of Bede’s De Temporum Ratione (caps. 25-35), contained in the ms. Barcelona, ACA, Ripoll 225 (saec. XI). These DTR excerpta from Ripoll are not included in the critical edition of Bede’s ecclesiastical computus texts made by Ch. W. Jones (Bedae Opera de Temporibus, Cambridge, Mass., 1943, with a new edition of the same critical apparatus in the Corpus Christianorum, Series Latina, CXXIII B, Bedae Opera, Pars VI, 2 Opera Didascalica, Turnholt 1977). Our paper tries to study the readings of the Ripoll ms. in comparison with Jone’s edition, in order to put forward some improved variants. The paper also tries to come to certain conclusions about the relationship between the scriptorium of Ripoll and the other European scriptoria in which Bede’s DTR mss. were copied.No disponibl
Los heteróclitos indoeuropeos en -i/n-: propuesta de reclasificación
No full textWe call -i/n- Heteroclits five nouns which present an alternation in this way: an i-stem of N.A.sg. (or masculine gender) is opposed to an n-stem of oblique cases (or feminine gender). In four of them this system is used for the opposition of case: this formation appears only in O.I.: áks̟i, etc. In the remaining nouns, the -i/n- alternance serves for the opposition of gender: O.L. m. páti- / f. pátnī-, and related forms. The author reviews the etymology of all these nouns: there are phonetic reasons to suppose that the alternation -i/n- is apparent; in all cases they are laryngeal stems, as it is justified by comparative material. In short, this inflexional type must be reduced to the heteroclitic -ø/n- stem.No disponibl
