No full textThe purpose of this work is to analyze the portrait of Augustus in Tacitus, through the study of Annales I 9-10, the so-called Totengericht of the prince. The analyse reveals that the tacitean text depends of the Res Gestae Diui Augusti, the political testament of Augustus, to which indirect reference is made continuously in the passage. The work takes also on account the hypothetical existence of a fons communis to Tacitus and Cassius Dio, but the conclusion in this point is negative.No disponibl

No full textThe paper studies the relationship between fable and myth: their points of contact and their differences. At the beginning both genres were used as example, and often they were instructive or etiological. They refer to stories which happened in old times. The characters are different, but no absolutely, because some gods appear in the fable, and some animals in the myth.
The fable differs from the myth because it deals with situations of all kind, it is innovative and flexible. Besides, it has a critical and satiric character. The paper ends giving a list of the fables on which there are divine characters: gods in connection with the creation of mankind, and erotic and comic gods.No disponibl

No full textBecause of the lack of agreement about how to define the caesura in Greek verse, this paper tries to emphasize on some aspects of crucial importance for the better understanding of the concrete carrying out of Greek caesura. On the one hand, the caesura is a main element in the metrical structure of verse; on the other, it is in close relation to its meaning and its syntax. After exposing and commenting on examples proving this relation between metre and meaning, it will be insisted on the aspects of syntax and content as basic elements when considering the importance of the caesura in Greek Verse.No disponibl

Sobre Salmacida spolia, v. 18 Vahlen del Ajax de Ennio
No full textThis paper, taking as a starting point the adjective Salmacida, establishes the existence of a relation between Ennius’ fragment Salmacida spolia sine sudore et sanguine and the fr. 178 N2 χλἡδοντα, which belongs Aeschylus’ tragedy. Such relation serves to strengthen the opinion of Vahlen and other philologists concerning the belonging to the Aiax of the mentioned verse, attribution not shared by all the publishers of Ennius’ tragedies. Also upon the base of the relation between Salmacida spolia and χλἡδοντα it attempts to prove that Ennius did not take Sophocles Αἴας μαστιγοφόρος as the only reference while writing his homonymous work.No disponibl
