No full textAlthough the knowledge of the manuscript tradition of the Medea by Euripides has been undeniably improved and there are new editions of this play, those of Diggle and van Looy, the text is still being corrected too much with unnecessary conjectures and seclusions which must be rejected. In some occasions Murray’s text (1902) is preferable.
In this paper the author justifies the maintenance of the text of the manuscripts of Medea in several passages and he argues that the acceptance of some conjectures and some seclusions of verses are due to an inadequate knowledge of the poet’s intention or of the Greek syntax. Some neutral and rare uses as well as the lexical, syntactic and metrical hapax, which appear in the manuscripts, can be often defended.No disponibl

No full textThe author sets Heraclitus’ angry contempt versus poets and philosophers against his much more respectful attitude towards some of the Seven Wise, particularly Bias and Thales. The hypothesis is that the connection of these men with Law is what explains Heraclitus’ more positive attitude: in fact, for Heraclitus, the process of knowledge is to be compared with a legal process, with arbiters and witnesses (ἵστορες καὶ μάρτυρες). Then, it is enquired about the meaning of words ἵστωρ and ἱστορες in Heraclitus. Finally, the paper deals with frs. 22 B 101 and 116 D.-K. in order to find out some kind of reference, be it favourable or unfavourable, to the most famous Delphic maxim Γνῶθι σαυτόν.No disponibl

No full textThe «mimetic» fictitious letter is related closely to the ethopoeia (a preparatory rhetoric exercise consisting of reproducing the words of a character in a given situation). The paper even shows that some of the mimetic letters included in the corpora of Alciphro, Aristaenetus and Theophylactus are true ethopoeiae. No full textCombining the methods of the «Sprachinhaltsforschung» (research of the linguistic content) proposed by Leo Weisgerber and the Lexematic theory of E. Coseriu, we develop the linguistic analysis of the formations with the prefix δυσ- in Ancient Greek Literature from Homer to the second century after Christ. The research, mainly semantic, was divided into four sections concerning the form, the content, the production and the function-effect. The evolution of the compounds with δυσ- shows the development of early formations on which new creations in different literary fields during ten centuries of History are based.
