Invitación al matrimonio: en torno a un pasaje estaciano (Silv. I 2, 161-200)
This paper is a literary commentary of Statius’ Siluae I 2, 161-200 (a suasoria to love). The following points are discussed: structure, general and particular sources, stylistic devices and literary fortune. Statius’ primary source of inspiration was Vergil’s Aeneid IV 31-53 (Anna’s suasoria addressed to Dido). But he also elaborated on other cultural sources: a) stoic philosophy; b) rhetorical θέσις of subject εἱ γαμητέον; and c) amatory and elegiac poetry. No disponibl
Verbos de obediencia en Sófocles. Estudio semántico
The concept of obedience in this paper is understood as a valorative manifestation of politics. I try to define the moral quality of Man in the context of the polis. On the one hand, there are the verbs that indicate types of political behaviour of Man before the nomos; on the other hand, there are those that refer to a political behaviour developed within the boundaries of the genos. In the former, the idea of obedience corresponds to something completely political or of state level; in the latter, to political concepts such as morality or religion (family level). Linguistically, the examination of the Sophoclean corpus is based on a detailed study of the context (linguistics and extralinguistics), where the main and most important factor correspond to the distribution of the classes and subclasses of words at sentence level. No disponibl
Plato or Plautus? (Jerome, Epist. XXII 30, 2)
In Jerome’s account of his «dream» the manuscripts are divided between Plautus and Plato; all editors have preferred Plautus. It would seem however that the correct reading is Plato. The assumption is supported by Jerome’s low estimate of Plautus and by the likelihood that he read Plato to improve his Greek; Jerome will also have been eager to advertise his familiarity with Plato precisely because he had so little aptitude for philosophy. Finally Plato makes a better antithesis to scripture. No disponibl

Aspectos formales y tópicos de los contratos privados sicilianos
Since F. Pringsheim (1950) the reading of the Greek law of sale has changed. He interpreted the Greek sale as a cash-contract, where the formalism of the transactions and the difference —though not legal— between possession and ownership are the main elements. This character of the Greek law of sale is confirmed by the epigraphical material. The formal analysis, and also the content’s one, of the Sicilian contracts of Camarina and Morgantina (spanning from IV b. C. to I b. C) compared with that of the contracts of other parts of the Greek world reveal that, despite the absence of juridical complexity, the sale transaction is a very formalized and unified one throughout the Greek world, at least since the fourth century b. C., with a tradition which is probably much older. The structure of these contracts is the following: invocation to the gods or Tyche; date; names of seller and purchaser; verb which defines the kind of transaction; object to be acquired, with the elements which define and specify it; price; in case of πρᾶσις ἐπὶ λύσει, term within which the λύσις must be effected; guarantor and/or witnesses. The existence of the πρᾶσις ἐπὶ λύσει and of witnesses to be added to the written contract even in the latest epigraphical sources confirms the need for formalism and the absence of a complex law, that could cover contracts with the possibility of deferred payment. No disponibl
Ps.- Escílax § 20, la descripción del Danubio y el problema de las fuentes del Periplo
If the conjecture generally admitted for Ps.Scylax § 20 is accepted, then the author of this Periplus agrees with Herodotus’ description of the Danube river. However, the mention of Danube’s Adriatic mouth takes up a different tradition, first documented in Theopompus. This discrepancy asks for a throughout discussion of Ps.Scylax’ sources. No disponibl
De Leovigildo perseguidor y Masona mártir
From the behaviour and the characterization of the protagonists, the topoi, the literary sources and the language one infers that the conflict depicted in the Vitas Sanctorum Patrum Emeretensium between the Arian king Leovigild and the Catholic bishop Masona is written according to the model of the passions of martyrs. No disponibl
De un uso gráfico de Catón (Quint. I 7, 23 y IX 4, 39)
According to Quintilianus (1 7, 23; IX 4, 39) Cato used to write dicae or faciae instead of dicam or faciam. However, some scholars have casted doubts on this testimony. This paper tries to show that Cato’s dicae and faciae were congruent in the context of Latin grammar and should therefore not be emended. No disponibl
