    Get PDF
In Dio of Prusa's (ca. 40-120 AD) Speech on Homer (Or. LIII,1-5) we find a brief history of textual interpretation. When referring to Democritus Dio draws from the doxographic tradition. For the sophist from Prusa grammarians activity originates from Aristotle and the peripatetic school. The author shall study the characteristics of Alexandrian philology and the discussion – ignored by Dio – arisen from Dionysius Trax's definition, which lasted until the second century AD. Then he shall be concerned with the different kinds of hermeneutics enumerated or alluded to in the already mentioned passage, paying special attention to the cynic-stoic hermeneutics practised by the sophist. No disponible

The breaking of the rhetorical ordo is one of the characteristics that enables us to identify Christian Latin Literature within the Latin literary corpus from the fourth century onwards. Gregorius Illiberritanus, the fourth century Hispanic author, in Tractatus number 16 of their Tractatus in Sacram Scripturam, refers to the biblical origin of the device of breaking the logical-rhetorical ordo. In his text, however, he not only theorizes on this aspect, but also applies it stylistically to the very creation of his discourse. Moreover, this aspect enables us to identify a literary genre which is particularly Christian: the «grammatical tractatus» in a speech form. This is the predecessor of sermons and homilies, which do not have parallels in non-Christian Latin Literature. No disponible

The aim of this paper is to study the textual tradition of this work by Lucian. The author discusses the text of several passages and she contends that the text ought not be altered, because the manuscript tradition in these passages is correct. The main support for this view is supported by the knowledge we have today about the koine language of the Hellenistic and Greek- Roman period and Lucian's style. No disponible

This paper developes the «rhetorical» mode of analysis of Diodorus' work already applied by the authors to the first book of the Biblioteca Histórica (Emerita 61, 1993, pp. 137-157). This time, the varied contents and structure of the second book are also explained in terms of the set of topoi that lay down the greek ethnographical tradition. Diodorus attempts to present the extraordinary complexity of the Asian geography and population in the same coherent way as Egypt was in the first book of the Bibliotheca. In so doing, Diodorus faces the lack of geographical limits and ethnical unity of Asia and provides an coherent image of the continent based on the traditional conception of Asian monarchies and the specialization of the several ethne according to the requirements of the ethnographical topoi. No disponible

    Get PDF
The entrances and exits of characters in Aristophanes' plays have been almost completely neglected by modern scholarship. This article is devoted to one particular element related to this aspect of dramatic technique: the entrance announcement. It do not study all announcements, but centers on those which are made by the chorus. These announcements are rare in Aristophanes: only 9 entrances are announced by the chorus, while 59 are announced by characters. The authoress selects the announcements by the former and study their form (metre, length, language), their content and the parts of comedy in which they occur, in order to assess the way in which Aristophanes uses them.No disponible

Les noms mycéniens dans les textes hittites

    E. Forrer's interpretation of Hittite mTawagalawa as a compounded Greek PN has been widely accepted. His equation mTawagalawa = ̕Eτεϝοκλέϝες, however, causes problems due to the presence of initial syllable ʼE- in Greek, a- timbre of vowel, and the sequence -ga-la- instead of -ak-la- in Hittite. It seems more plausible to segment the name as T(a)wako-lâwos which finds a perfect parallel in Greek PN Σακόλαος, `The shield of the people'.La interpretación de E. Forrer del hitita mTawagalawa como un nombre propio compuesto griego ha sido ampliamente admitida. The toponyms of Central Spain tell us a great deal about the linguistic influence of the Celts and Romans in the interior of the Peninsula. Philological and statistical analysis of the origin of ancient town names in this region reveals a strong predominance of Celtic toponyms among the Celtiberi and Turmogi, while the Arevaci, Pelendones and Vaccaei have equal proportions of Celtic and pre-Celtic names. The highest proportion of Romanized toponyms (about 25 per cent) occurs among the Carpetani and Arevaci.
