The term ἀναβολή was used by literary criticism of comedy against the late fifth-century dithyramb. It received diverse interpretations yet in ancient as well as in modern times. My contribution is intended to clarify: 1) the possible origins of some of the confusions in interpretation applied to the term in antiquity and transmitted into the present; 2) its possible meaning, on the basis of testimonies which – like the one of the pseudo-aristotelic Problemata – establish a relation between the dithyramb and other poetic genders of the late fifth-century b.C., the citharodic νόμοι and the tragic monody.
The aim of this paper is to apply, as a way of interpretation of Virgil’s Fourth Bucolic, verses 18-25, the idea that one of his “inspiration” sources could have been the visual and iconic universe in which the poet flourished. Taking into account the argumentation about different types of ekphraseis, we try to define what we call “implicit ekphrasis”, that is, a kind of ekphrasis not produced by isolated artistic objects, but another one based on concepts, in order to apply it to our verses commentary. The results could allow us to say that the icons which, at Rome, symbolized aeternitas, aurea aetas, felicitas temporum, tempora anni, etc., permit the poet (among other inspiration sources) to build his message of a better time through the puer nascens’s metaphor. No disponible

Most commentators on the final verses of Pindar’s Twelfth Pythian Ode have expressed a discontent with the apparent banality they have perceived in these lines. Yet there remains a number of exegetical challenges in regard to these gnomic verses which render their interpretation eine alte Crux der Erklärung. In this paper we analyze those interpretations which have addressed each of the final verses, and we state our reasons for rejecting each of them either on syntactical grounds or for their lack of internal coherence. In what follows, we shall propose a new interpretation of the entire passage, one which will show how Pindar is ellaborating a topos about the role that Time and Deity play in the fulfillment of Fate.No disponible
Traditionally, the nomen Pompeius has been believed to point out the importance, in Hispania as elsewhere, of the clientele of the gens Pompeia. This article aims to revise that presumption, on the basis that many of the persons bearing this gentilice were simply acculturated natives.
Quintilian is generally believed to be a staunch follower and supporter of Cicero's rhetoric doctrine. But this belief is contradicted by some evidences found in the ninth book of the Institutio Oratoria. No disponible
