The Relationship Between Calorie Labeling, Weight Concern, and Weight Perception Among Females in Saudi Arabia
The goal of this study was to determine the efficacy of the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) initiative by determining whether participants' food selection behavior has changed since calorie information has been listed on restaurant menus, as well as to look into the relationships between calorie information on restaurant menus, body weight, and weight perception in Saudi Arabian women. To carry out a quasi-experimental design, this study used a convenience sample of 333 undergraduate female students with an average age of 20.38±1.77 years. The control group (non-calorie listed menu169, 50.7 %) and the experimental group (calorie listed menu169, 50.7 %) were divided into two groups based on the type of menu used (calorie listed menu164, 49.3 % ). When compared to the control group's mean calorie intake, the experimental group's mean calorie consumption reduced by 59 calories, showing a significant difference between the two groups. The presence of calories impacts a greater number of people in the experimental group (64.6%), who have a significantly higher mean weight concern (7.94±3.13) and mean behavioral intention (11.82±4.65) than the control group. Participants in the experimental group who were classed as obese or overweight had the highest level of weight perception and concern, despite significant changes in calorie consumption. In adults, calorie counting has a considerable influence on calorie reduction and weight maintenance. This effort is a useful, low-cost, and easy-to-understand tool, as well as a great place to start for people and communities interested in obesity prevention and reduction
Proverbs as Ideological Weapon for Relegating Women: The Case of East Gojam
Because of the long-lived traditional patriarchal ideology, women in many countries particularly in developing ones like Ethiopia have been relegated in to the margins of society, culture, and history in male-dominated environment. Women have been marginalized in the socio-cultural, economic and political spheres. As part of the world, women in East Gojam are naturally considered inferior to men. Hence, the primary aim of this study was to examine how proverbs function as ideological weapon for relegating women in east Gojam. Interview, focus group discussion and document analysis were used as instruments to gather proverbs from informants obtained through purposive and snowball sampling techniques. The ethnographic design or interpretative approach was used to conduct this study. The result revealed that proverbs in east Gojam are used to relegate women drawing different negative images. Such images include women as hussy beings, unreliable and unpredictable, infirm, captious, deserving ill-treatments, source of danger and problems
Academic Self-Concept of Secondary Science Education Students: A Structural Equation Modeling Approach
Academic self-concept (ASC), a construct recognized in education and psychology, is a significant factor influencing academic performance. Although numerous reports have examined college students' academic self-concept globally, little research has been conducted to ascertain the underlying factor structure and constructs of ASC among undergraduate secondary science majors in the Philippines. The primary objectives of this study were to examine the ASC of BSED college students and to ascertain the underlying factor structure of the ASC variables. The survey of 94 BSED Science students revealed an average general ASC. The EFA model revealed a two-factor structure for the observed variables. The SEM indicates a slight negative correlation between Positive ASC and Negative ASC. Students' sense of capability, pride in their college grades, and belief that studying hard pays off are all strongly associated with the Positive ACS. Students' feelings of being behind on classwork and a lack of necessary abilities for specific majors are heavily attributed to the negative ACS. According to the generated values for the model's good fit indices, the ACS SEM model of the study is an acceptable model. Additional research shall be conducted to further our understanding of students' Academic Self-concepts across disciplines and to validate the two-factor structure model developed in this study
Modern Physics E-book Based Multirepresentation for Hybrid Learning
This research is a development research that aims to describe the feasibility of material, pedagogic and media aspects of e-books based multirepresentation for hybrid learning on Modern Physics material. This research model uses 4D (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate). The data collection technique is that the validator assigns a score to each aspect on the validation sheet and then the data is analyzed to see the percentage of validation. In this study the validators consisted of each aspect as many as two validators as material, pedagogic, and media experts. The results showed that the e-books based multirepresentation for hybrid learning on Modern Physics material was feasible to use with a percentage gain from material experts of 62% (fair enough); from pedagogic experts by 89% (very feasible); from media experts by 92% (very decent). As for the results of the aiken calculation, for the material aspect, the score is 0.50 (medium); the pedagogic aspect got a score of 0.85 (high); and the media aspect scored 0.89 (high)
Water Quality Assessment of Different Land Uses of Tugbo Watershed Forest Reserve and Downstream River
Changes in land use and management practices have been highlighted as one of the main driving forces behind risks to the quality of the water in the Tugbo watershed and downstream river in Masbate Island, Philippines. The purpose of the study is to evaluate and analyze pertinent data regarding the impact of various land uses on the tributary physicochemical properties of the river both on- and off-site using data from water quality monitoring and the DENR Administrative Order (DAO) No. 2016-08 classification guidelines for water quality. Six (6) types of land cover predominate in the watershed: pastureland, agroforestry farms, old-growth forests, coconut-based areas, built-up/quarry sites, and built-up/estuaries were identified. Significant differences at 0.05 level were observed based on Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and post-hoc test results across different land uses are significantly different from each other between the inside and outside the watershed. The data show that pH and nitrate are significantly different water quality outcomes in comparison to the LULC of the test site, regardless of the land cover or land use adjoining the water system. Other than two land-uses differences, the temperature and dissolved oxygen do not differ greatly from one another. Analyses of the water quality were within the norm, and a positive correlation was found between several indicators and various land uses. The outcome is generally highly beneficial for developing and implementing watershed strategies to protect land and water resources and improve the overall state of the continuum
The Use of Filipino and English as Mediums of Instruction in the Teaching of Engineering Courses at the Tertiary Level
This quasi-experimental research aimed to determine which language is more effective in teaching engineering courses at the tertiary level in selected universities. The research compared the performance of the experimental and control groups by utilizing a different language as the means of instruction. The Controlled Groups utilized the English language and the Filipino language for the Experimental The majority of the participants consisted of 135 Engineering students from four universities in Manila; 65 for the Controlled Group and 70 for the Experimental Group preferred English as their medium of instruction. Despite a strong preference for English, the Filipino language is still used as a strategic competence, especially when seeking clarifications. When it comes to concepts taught in English, the language barrier becomes an issue, and the Filipino language becomes the most accessible option when direct guidance and clarification are needed. Moreover, the two groups achieved a notable improvement in the pretest-posttest, in favor of the Experimental Group. On the other hand, the t-test revealed no significant difference in the performance of the two groups; the result shows that anything before and after the intervention had little effect on students’ comprehension including the motivation and the ability to achieve their desired goals. The research, however, was limited to engineering education, with implications for other disciplines. Similar studies may be conducted on a broader range of topics and at different educational levels. Revisiting the curriculum to evaluate the inclusion of language and skill development would be essential
The Effectiveness of Experience and Teaching Methods on Evaluating Performance of Faculty Members – Statistical Study
Evaluating the performance of faculty members working in educational institutions has become one of the significant concerns in the field of teaching. With the aim of improving the promotion process of the faculty members, the current study aims to analyze the two important factors namely teaching experience and the methods of teaching. Previous studies have discussed that certain factors like renewing the contract of the faculties and their service period will be considered while making the decision process of faculty promotion in the educational institutions. Therefore, this study will examine the factors that affect the evaluation process of faculty members. The study also examines to what extent the experience of teaching staff and their teaching methods will impact their performance as teachers in educational institutions. For this, the researcher adopted the statistical method - Pearson correlation and independent-measures t-stat for measuring the effectiveness of the hypothesis proposed in the study. Furthermore, this study concentrates on conducting experiments, based on the average faculty member evaluation of three ratings, which include student, head of the department, and HR. Results of the study indicated that the variable ‘teaching method’ is found more significant and correlated to the average faculty member evaluation, while the variable ‘faculty experience’ has not have a significant and strong correlation with the average rating of faculty member performance evaluation
