    APPLICATIONS OF ROTATING BIOLOGICAL CONTACTORSIN WASTEWATER TREATMENT

    Rotating biological contactors are generally used as secondary treatment of domestic, hospital and industrial wastewater, operating asan aerobic and anaerobic fixed film biological treatment. Rotating biological contactors areeffective in the removal of biodegradable matter,pathogenic bacteria,nitrogen, recalcitrant compounds, heavy metals,emerging contaminants, and dyes from wastewater. In this paper, we present the design and operating principles of rotating biological contactors, and we review some of the most important results related to the applications of rotating biological contactors for the treatment of wastewater originating from different activities

    HERBORIZED PLANTS FROM ARCTIUM GENUS

    Arctium genus contains 65 vouchers within "Alexandru Beldie" Herbarium from Bucharest. All these vouchers are organized in a database that contains information regarding: species, harvesting place, the person that has collected them, harvesting date and the conservation degree. This was followed by a short description of the main species conserved in the herbarium. The oldest Arctium plant dates back to 1875, while the persons who have gathered these plants are renowned Romanian and foreign botanists. The harvesting place of these plants is focused in Romania but complemented by samples from outside its borders, mainly from the origin countries of the foreign botanists that have collaborated with the Romanian specialists. Even though the species of this Genus are mainly considered weeds, numerous studies show important usages in medicine

    VARIATION OF CHLOROPHYLLS AND OSMOLYTES CONTENT IN THREE CULTIVARS OF WHEAT UNDER DROUGHT STRESS

    Drought is one of the environmental factors that adversely affect the growth and productivity of plants. Plants adapt their metabolism by developing various defensive mechanisms to survive unfavorable conditions. The objective of the present study was to investigate the effect of water stress (50% field capacity) on photosynthetic pigments, protein, soluble sugars, amino acids and proline content in leaves of three varieties of wheat (Dropia, Alex and Boema). The results show that the contents of soluble sugars, amino acids, total carotenoids and proline increase with decreasing water content in soil while the content in chlorophyll and protein decreases in all studied genotypes. The results suggest that the investigated biochemical indices play an active role in regulating osmotic pressure, an important mechanism in plant tolerance to drought stress

    ASSESSEMENT OF THERMAL REGIME IN OLTENIA USING TEMPERATURE-BASED CLIMATE INDICATORS RELEVANT FOR AGRICULTURE SECTOR

    We present a quantitative evaluation of current climate (1981-2010) thermal conditions relevant for the agriculture sector by using seven agrometeorological climate indices computed based on the ROCADA dataset. The temperature-related indicators characterize the cold period of the year (i.e. sums of minimum air temperatures ≤â€10°C recorded in Decemberâ€February interval), the bounding seasons (e.g. zero crossing days), heating degree days) or are more specifically oriented for the growing season (i.e. Growing degree days; growing season mean temperature during Aprilâ€October/ May-September interval; Winkler index). The indices are computed for the entire Romanian territory, highlighting the thermal climatic features of the Oltenia region

    THE STRUCTURE OF THE AVAILABILITY AND TOTAL CONSUMPTION OF SUNFLOWER OIL IN ROMANIA (2011-2013)

    Today there is a wide variety of vegetable oils and sometimes we find it hard to understand which oil is useful and which not too. First method-cold pressed oil at low temperatures. It is the most "natural " method to get the vegetable oil with the help of a presses. The seeds are placed in a press, and due to the strong pressure, the press is warming itself. The oil obtained does not heat over 40-42C: Such a low temperature will allow it to retain all useful components. The second method is the cold pressing after prior treatment. With this method of production, the seeds are first processed at high temperatures. For manufacturers This method is certainly advantageous: so, they can get not 27%, but 43% of the total amount of oil contained in the final product. The third method is extraction. This method is a fairytale for all manufacturers: with it can get 98% of raw material oil. From the point of view of the component elements of the balance is noteworthy of its unitary character. The production predominating (140.37%), but the implications of export and import operations are not to be neglected, in this respect the surplus trade balance should be established.Â

    RECONVERSION / RESTRUCTURING OF VINEYARD PLANTINGS IN OLTENIA IN THE PERIOD 2007-2018 WITH THE ACCESS OF EUROPEAN FUNDS

    The Community support for the restructuring / reconversion programs was granted in Romania in a lump sum, which came from the European agricultural guarantee funds - EAGF, for each eligible measure, this being calculated so as not to exceed 75% of the value of the eligible costs for the implementation of the measures. from the programs. Between 2007 and 2018, the rate of planting of vines at national level, by accessing European funds was relatively constant, materializing by planting over 3,000 ha with annual vines, until 2012, when it started to decrease until below 1,500 ha / year, thus materializing by planting 25,602 ha with vines, which ensured the significant growth of the areas planted with vines destined to produce quality wines, with DOC and IG. Through reconversion / restructuring, in Oltenia, during the period 2007-2018, an area of 1,976.02 ha was planted, representing 7.72% of the area planted at national level, the structure of grape varieties for wine being represented 52.54 % of black varieties

    INFLUENCE OF COLCHICINE TREATMENTS ON THE MORPHOLOGICAL CHARACTERS OF THE OKRA SEEDLINGS

    The effect of the treatments with colchicine determines the doubling of the number of chromosomes, but can also induce mutations being often used in breeding works to induce variability. Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench (syn. Hibiscus esculentus L.) is an economically important vegetable plant grown in tropical, sub-tropical and temperate areas with a warmer climate for multiple nutritional and medicinal properties. In the present paper, 0.1% colchicine treatments were performed on the okra seeds. Five variants with different exposure times were experimented and observations were made after seven days on the length and thickness of the roots and the hypocotyl. The treatment with colchicine induced the modification of the morphological characters, resulting in seedlings with short and thickened roots and hypocotyls. The maximum effect was recorded in variant no. 5 with 2 hours exposure

    MANAGEMENT PRACTICES OFWASTEWATER SLUDGE

    Large amounts of wastewater sludge, a secondary pollutant of wastewater treatment plants, commonly containing over 90% water and pathogens, organic pollutants and heavy metals, are produced daily worldwide.  Main treatment routes of wastewater sludge are: landfill, anaerobic digestion, land application and incineration. Anaerobic sludge digestion is a technology employed worldwide to reduce solids, stabilize organic matter, and destroy pathogens and to produce biogas as a source of energy.Compositing is applied for sludge treatment and conversion of complex biowaste into a stabilized product that can be used as organic fertilizer in agriculture. In this paper we present the main practices employed in the management of wastewater sludge, in order to reduce its volume, to capitalize it and to protect the environment

    In this article there are presented few of the objectives which are required in the management of the works for agricultural cultures foundation like: the execution of agricultural works with superior qualitative indices; the execution of agricultural works respecting the protection and conservation of  soil, respectively  the seizure of the carbon in soil; the assurance of vegetative place of plants; the realization of agricultural works in optimal time with minimum costs. Are presented the agricultural used aggregate and the mandatory adjustments imposed by those. It is make a comparative analysis of qualitative indices of agricultural works conducted in conventional system and conservative system and an economic analysis of the costs with the works for of agricultural cultures in these two systems. Are elaborated a series of conclusions and recommendations
