TRACING THE MYTH OF THE PEOPLE, AS PART OF LIFE (A CASE STUDY OF DAMPU AWANG FOLKLORE)
A community is the largest unit of the society. Society is a collection of several communities that have a common agreement. In everyday life they make a mutual agreement both oral and written in life. The agreement was made. There are mutually agreed rules, norms and values for mutual preservation among the people. One unique example is to look at a society that lives in a shared environment that then guard each other by agreeing on a common myth. Society does not object to the myth, the people accept the myth willingly without having to express likes or dislikes. An example of this is folklore about Dampu Awang. Dampu Awang story is known as a folklore in the northern coastal area of the eastern part of the island of Java or precisely in the vicinity of Rembang. Local people believe that Dampu Awang was native Javanese. According to the oral story of the local people, they believe that Dampu Awang was a nomad from Java who then succeeded in trading with the people. Dampu Awang came back to Java and landed in Lasem's big port. For the local people, Dampu Awang was very reliable and had great stories. Based on the oral story of the society, local people believe that Dampu Awang was not just a successful nomad and merchant but also someone who introduced new influences. As a wanderer and wholesaler Dampu Awang bought a lot of crops from the local community and also brought a wide variety of merchandise that could be exchanged for the produce. Trade activities conducted by Dampu Awang provide opportunities for local people to interact with the people from outside the archipelago. It is interesting that this Dampu Awang myth does not only belong to the locals but also to Chinese immigrants in Rembang. They know this story with their respective story variants. Dampu Awang is considered to have left a large relic; an enormous ship anchor placed in front of a church in Kartini park. This myth is kept around in the form of oral folklore delivered from time to time

Regardless public opinion stating that the text of Babad Tanah Jawi is the most complete text that tells the change of power in Java, nobody can ensure the truth. The Text of Babad Tanah Jawi contains a long journey of power change in the land of Java. The author of the story could freely talk about various matters relating to the change of power in Java. The myth of power is strongly attached to the Javanese society. During the time of Hindu influence in Java, the myth of power was firmly attached to the Javanese way. It is easy to see that the influence of the Maha Bharata and Ramayana stories is adapted in the culture by placing the pagakawan character as a characteristic of local wisdom in his time. For example, the story of Queen of South which is always associated with the succession of power in Java. Strong Arabic and European influences began to enter in Java in the early XV century. The traditional story begins to change, originally oriented to the gods now oriented to the mention of God and the creatures mentioned in the cultural influences that come. On the other hand, the myth of power in Javanese culture continues to be attached in various ways. Some are manifested in the form of real activities, but some are manifested in the belief through writing, as well as the Queen Ratu Kidul

DANCE COSTUMES IN ABUJA CARNIVAL: THE CONTRADICTIONS OF SOCIO-POLITICAL INTEGRATION
Nigeria is a culturally diverse nation. This has always been a source of trouble for the country. The challenges that have been faced in the country have been mostly as associated with cultural diversity. Differences in political ideologies, religion and traditional festivals are also derivatives of differences in culture. As a mechanism to bridge socio-cultural differences many “Unity Projects” have been created with a view to working on the Unity of the Country. Some of these projects are National Arts Festival (NAFEST), National Sports Festival and Abuja National Carnival. However, a keen observation of the National Carnival has revealed that one of its very visible elements – The Dance Costume has a paradoxical effect on the carnival. The paradox consists in the argument that; while the carnival is expected to make Nigerians celebrate together as a people those things that bring them together, instead they celebrate those things that highlight their differences and tend to tear them apart. For instance the participating states bring to the carnival dance costumes with motifs that are peculiar to their cultural environment. The details of this paradox and its implication on the aesthetic value and effectiveness of the carnival, as a true unity-building mechanism, form the focus of this paper, using the social Identification Theory as an instrument
PUNK ANARCHISM AND THE BRITISH SOCIETY
Society associates “Punk” with a music genre, backed with a very distinctive look, recognizable from the hair style, make-up and overall outfit. Other than their outward ‘fashion’ appearance, many also associate “Punk” with a group of young people who do not characteristically blend with their social surrounding. All of these factors tend to have them portrayed as an aggressive circle, and being associated with ‘anarchy’ has driven people to be weary of them. With a compact study through the history of “Punk” and the society in which it emerged, this journal will dig into Punk’s origins and unveil if society’s idea of Punk movement and society’s weariness against them is justified and fairly grounded. It will also attempt to uncover if Punk has any other social significance besides the aggressive genre of music that the public has known it to be
