    Get PDF
The lone-wolf terrorism phenomenon certainly becomes an interesting object, both for researchers and those related to law-enforcement interests. Lone-wolf terrorism is also called as a lone warrior or a single fighter or a single warrior. Realistically and empirically it is very reasonable to be called lone-wolf terrorism because there is no trace of the relationship between the perpetrators of lone-wolf terrorism and a terrorism organization. In the scrutiny and rational research there is no lone wolf terrorism, due to the existence of a very clear ideological relationship between a terrorism groups with Lone-wolf terrorism

TOLERANCE AS AN ACT OF LOVE: A BUBERIAN READING OF MEDEA AND HER CHILDREN

    Get PDF
This article focuses on interpersonal relations of the protagonist Medea in the novel Medea and Her Children (1996) by Lyudmila Ulitskaya. Owing to its protagonist of mixed identities and diversity among its characters, Medea and Her Children serves as an excellent material for a discussion of the importance of tolerance within, above all, Russian society. This article examines Medea’s modes of existence in accordance with Martin Buber’s philosophical concept of relation and love. The aim is to see how Medea attains her existential authenticity through establishing relation with her world. Pertaining to Buber’s theory, this article demonstrates how approaching others with an attitude distinct to an I-You relation brings forth a tolerant stance from a person. This research uses literature study as the technique to collect the data and descriptive analysis as the method. Initially exploring the nature of the relationships between Medea and three of her relatives; Georgii, Nike, and Alexandra, then identifying the love shown by Medea in accordance with Buber’s concept, this article ultimately argues that Medea’s tolerance is an act of love, thus functions as her attainment of existential authenticity

This research delves into the pavilions of Indonesia in World Expo, which is a world class cultural event involving so many countries all over the world as participants and it also attracts millions of people coming to the event of 3 to 6 months duration. Throughout the administration of Soeharto under the regime of New Order Indonesia had participated in six World Expo events out of ten events being organized; this shows how important the role of this event for Indonesia. However, from one Expo to another, it is curious that the objects chosen to be displayed in the pavilion are in fact a repetition so it raises question whether there is a certain concept being emphasized in each Expo event that the New Order regime would like to pass on by means of the displayed items continuously and whether such repetition can be considered as a form of framing and a confirmation of the symbol of power that the New Order want to show. This research is a cultural studies using qualitative approach that delve in data taken from a variety of documents such as photographs, reports compiled by committees, newspaper, magazines and internet. This research results in findings that uncover (1) meaning and representation of the objects of display of the 1986, 1988, 1992 and (2) representation of objects of display in the pavilion of 1986, 1988 and 1992 World Expo as construction of the ideology of New Orde

The Union‟s involvement in the reconciliation process of the Western Balkans through the Stabilisation and Association Process (SAP) will be explored and the Union‟s European Neighborhood Policy (ENP) will also be brought into focus regarding the policy‟s means of evasion in creating a secure European neighbourhood. In order to understand the breadth of transitional justice measures taken by the Union within the Western Balkans, the case of Croatia will be taken into account, as the first country from the area to be accessed into the Union in 2012, and to some extent compared to the process that is taking place in Serbia. This article seeks to bear out how although the ENP has to a degree succeeded in establishing constitutional peace within „Wider Europe‟, the cursoriness of its role in executing transitional justice in the Western Balkans has led to the obstruction of sustainable peace within the region

The paper investigates what kind of negotiations, conducted by these women, in dealing with pesantren‟s patriarchal attitude so they can more participate in its „public” and authority matters. Based on a qualitative research data, collected from fieldwork in selected pesantren around Indonesia, this paper argues that in order to maximize their contribution in pesantren web of power, pesantren women as Nyai actively try in any ways to change patriarchal concepts, to empower themselves, and to negotiate social changes
