The adoption of green management in Iraqi construction industry: The challenges and benefits
Working locally acting Globally is the essential principle in the modern world, to achieve this principle all the countries should work together to protect the Natural environment and the ecosystem. The protection methods and procedures were developed and adapted to suit all fields of the life specially the industry fields, Green Management (GM) considered one of the important methods for this purpose because it provides the bases for environmental conservation. Industry of construction shares a high percentage of the world economy as well as adverse influence on the environment as natural. The current paper tries to set the challenges and benefits of adopting the GM in Iraqi industry of construction throughout exploring the important Factors (main and sub-Factors) that affect the applications of the GM as well as the motivation factors. To achieve this goal a review of literatures was performed to collect the effecting factors, then these Factors were evaluated by the experts using questionnaire survey and the questionnaire results were analyzed utilizing Process of Analytical Hierarchy (AHP). The results revealed that the main factors are the financial factors and the Project-related and technical factors with 23% and 19% of important respectively. Accordingly, the conclusions were extracted with a set of recommendations which mainly state the important role of the Iraqi government in the application of GM in the industry of construction
A new truncation algorithm of low hardware cost multiplier
Multiplier is one of the most inevitable arithmetic circuit in digital signal design. Multipliers dissipate high power and occupy significant amount of the die area. In this paper, a low-error architecture design of the pre-truncated parallel multiplier is presented. The coefficients word length has been truncated to reduce the multiplier size. This truncation scaled down the gate count and shortened the critical paths of partial product array. The statistical errors of the designed multiplier are calculated for different pre-truncate values and compared. The multiplier is implemented using Stratix III, FPGA device. The post fitting report is presented in this paper, which shows a saving of 36.9 % in resources usage, and a reduction of 17 % in propagation time delay
Structural behavior of high-strength concrete corbels involving steel fibers or closed stirrups
A comprehensive experimental evaluation of the shear behavior of corbels made by high-strength concrete (HSC) with steel fiber or with stirrups was investigated. Thirteen samples were prepared and tested, the main variables in this research were steel fiber type, steel fiber content (Vf %), and amount of horizontal closed stirrups (Ah). The constants in this investigation were the area of the main steel reinforcement (As), ratio of shear span to depth (a/d) and cube concrete strength (fcu). The obtained results clearly showed that, the presence of fibers or closed stirrups enhanced the strength and decreased the deformation of the explored specimens. It was concluded that the horizontal shear reinforcement can be substituted by supplementation of steel fibers to RHSC corbels. A comparison was performed between the test results and estimated shear capacity by ACI code and other adopted equations. Very conservative shear strength values were obtained from ACI 318–19 for corbels prepared with high-strength concrete because the strut and tie method were influenced by concrete strength and did not take the contribution of closed stirrups into account. However, the shear friction method depends only on the quantity of the main steel reinforcement and closed stirrups. Russo [2] proposed a model that adequately predicted the ultimate force of high-strength RC corbels incorporating closed stirrups, but this model did not take the effect of steel fibers into account. On a new double weighted exponential-pareto distribution: Properties and estimation
The main aim of this manuscript to present a new weighted distribution named the Double Weighted Exponential Pareto Distribution (DWEOD). This paper constructed and studied this new distribution. The quantifiable properties are discussed, including the mean, variance, harmonic mean, coefficient of variation, reliability function, moments generating function, mode, hazard function, and the reverse hazard function. Moreover, this work estimated the parameters of this distribution by the maximum likelihood estimation method and the method of the moment
Optimization of delamination resistance of vacuum infused glass laminate aluminum reinforced epoxy (GLARE) using various surface preparation techniques
GLARE (glass laminate aluminum-reinforced epoxy) is aluminum-based material of fiber metal laminate (henceforth FML) that is often fabricated by expensive autoclave procedure. In this study, the process of Injected Molding (or also known as VARTM) was employed as a cost-effective alternative to produce GLARE. Several aluminum surface preparation procedures are applied to improve the interlaminar shear strength. A T3 temper 2024 aluminum alloy with 1*1 plain fabricated glass fabrics were used to make GLARE composites. GLARE consists of two aluminum sheet as external layers and glass fabric as internal layers. Four sets of aluminum sheets were prepared, one unanodized and three other anodized. Three different anodizing procedures (constant voltage mode, increasing voltage mode and decreasing voltage mode) have been adopted in this research. Two types of curing treatments were applied on VARTM fabricated specimens. According to ASTM D1876 T-peel test standard, the sets of prepared specimens have been tested to examine the adhesive bonding strength and fracture toughness of mode-I. The obtained results which include force-displacement curves, peak loads and fracture toughness were showed that a significant improvement for anodized specimens with all voltage modes. The first curing treatment offered better results than second curing treatment. The best improvement was obtained from anodized specimen with decreasing voltage mode cured by the first treatment which reaches to six times the results obtained from unanodized specimen. The delamination behavior for this specimen was verified numerically
A study of the effectiveness of chemical additives on the characteristic flow of crude oils
This article aims to study the effect of the concentration with additives on the kinematic viscosity of crude oils. Additionally, the influence of solvents that reduces the viscosity of heavy oil with significance to their functions in the flow rate of crude oil, which is transported by conveyor pipes to long distances. Different concentrations of polymers with different types named as Polyvinyl chloride (PVC), Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) were tested in order to analyze the experimental data. The results demonstrate that the impact of the additives to the viscosity and comparing at different temperatures. The data can be used to investigate the types of additives that can increase or reduce the viscosity of crude oils. Furthermore, the outcomes show that the addition of PVC at a concentration of (100ppm) and temperature range (30-50 CO) reduces the viscosity of crude oil to the ultimate value the 12.63% at 30Co. However, the viscosity decreases drastically up to (100ppm), and then the amount of viscosity is increased
Mathematical connection skills and their relationship with productive thinking among secondary school students
In recent times, it has increasingly become imperative to demonstrate the function which mathematics plays in the different aspects of life in general, especially in terms of solving problems and decision-making. Mathematics is applied in solving different problems that individuals and society at large are faced with daily. Also, it plays a crucial role in the lives of students by enabling them to prepare for life challenges through the creation of positive interaction between the students and real-life situations, and the development of their mental capabilities in terms of problem-solving and creativity. It also helps them to be responsible and develop self-confidence. This research seeks to find out whether there is a correlation between the learners\u27 ability to connect mathematics with its branches and other sciences, as well as to their daily lives and their ability to think productively. This is achieved using two statistical tests, whereby one of the tests is used in determining the mathematical connection skills possessed by the learners, while the other is employed to measure productive thinking among learners. A sample of 300 students in fourth-grade science from Baghdad was used for the study. The results of the analyses revealed that mathematical connection skill is positively correlated with productive thinking
Undergraduate students\u27 perceptions of the use of simulation software through online learning in colleges of engineering during the covid-19 pandemic: A case study at al-Balqa applied university, Jordan
Students at Al-Balqa\u27 Applied University, Jordan, are being interviewed about their experiences with online simulation software during the Covid-19 pandemic. In this study, a descriptive method was employed. 667 undergraduate students were asked to fill out a 25-item questionnaire. During the Covid-19 epidemic, undergraduate students showed a modest level of proficiency in using simulation software via online instruction, according to the study\u27s findings. Al-Balqa\u27 Applied University undergraduate students\u27 perspectives vary according to gender (in favor of females) and discipline, according to the findings (in favor of the Electrical engineering discipline.). Academic evaluation, on the other hand, does not show any statistically significant differences amongst pupils. As a result, there appears to be no statistically significant difference in academic evaluation across pupils (GPA). It\u27s important to do more research like this one on simulation software implementation in higher education institutions, according to this study
Automatic panoramic medical image stitching improvement based on feature-based approach
Clarification publications in the medical field are very important in making doctors the right decision by finding evidence to support his decision, therefore, the importance of collecting medical images and combining them with multiple overlapping areas of the same scene is important. This (processing, multimedia images and their medical applications) is very difficult. Our system proposed in this paper is applicable to the medical field of scoliosis and other Rib cage. The problem is the narrow vision of the X-ray machine and the lack of a large picture in one frame, the best solution is to combine more than one x-ray image into one panoramic image, our proposed method relies on in light of feature-based methodology by Circle (Oriented-FAST and Rotated-BRIEF). The rapid wave approach is used to describe the feature through the use of BRIEF technology, the standard that has been adopted in our technology to describe the performance of the planning is based on the processing time and image quality created. The purpose of using the feature extraction approach in our technology is to obtain a high-resolution panoramic image plus short processing time, the results that we were able to obtain, according to the experimental results applied, resulted in ORB image quality and recording time
Theoretical and experimental analysis of the physical behavior of gaskets in shock absorber
The current study examines the theoretical and experimental behaviour of gaskets when using different cases of disc samples (free-free, free-fix and fix-fix). The samples are made of rubber. The deformation of the gasket as a function of loading depends significantly on how it is fixed to the rigid supports. Physical properties have been explained. In experimental analysis of the sample disc "Free-Free", the loading velocity does not have a significant influence on the range of values of the mentioned velocity. All the curves in the "Free-Fix" disc load illustrate that at the same deformation, the average pressure is higher than in the case of the "free-free" disc. At the deformation of 1.49 mm, the average pressure is 33% higher than all other graphs. In the case of the "Fix-Fix" disc, it is observed that the load, evaluated by the average pressure, is clearly higher than in the case "Free-Fix" disc. At a deformation of 1.49 mm, the average pressure was found to be 15 times higher
