Feminist International Assistance Policy Kanada: Studi Kasus Bantuan CFLI untuk Jakarta Feminist 2017–2021
This article aims to analyze the assistance provided by the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives to the Jakarta Feminist in the 2017-2021 period as one of the proofs that Canada's Feminist International Assistance Policy has so far been running smoothly. In addition, this article also aims to correct the misunderstandings of foreign policy observers regarding FIAP as a feminist foreign policy. FIAP has so far only used elements of Liberal Feminism as a lens of observation to focus on their foreign aid agenda to achieve a safe, inclusive, and prosperous world development. Therefore, this article argues that FIAP does contain elements of Feminism but focuses more on assisting non-profit organizations in developing countries, one of which is Indonesia. By using a descriptive qualitative research method that processes primary and secondary data from personal interviews and literature review, this article finds that CFLI, under the auspices of FIAP, has been successful in assisting the Jakarta Feminist in 2017-2021 and has also managed to reveal that FIAP is not a feminist foreign policy. FIAP oversees several foreign aid programs initiated by Canada for developing countries, one of which is CFLI
Non-State Actor Contribution in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals: Capturing Global Reporting Initiative Role in Indonesia

The focus of the study is the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), one of the NGOs widely recognised as a provider of sustainability reporting standards. This study adopted qualitative research methods by collecting data from literature studies and interview competent informants from GRI Indonesia representatives, related industries, expert academics, and government representativies Furthermore, the data were analysed using triangulation methods to answer research questions adequately. The findings of this study show that GRI has a significant role in achieving the SDGs in Indonesia. GRI uses a pattern of collaboration and cooperation and provides sustainability-related training in promoting the use of GRI Standards to both regulators and companies. The results of this study are expected to provide the latest discourse on the role of non-state actors in achieving SDGs as the global commitment of countries in the world
Inggris dan Perancis pasca Brexit: Sengketa Jersey sebagai Hasil dari Trade and Coooperation Agreement (TCA)
Britain's separation from the European Union led to changes that needed to be re-adjusted by both parties. The European Union-United Kingdom Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) is the result of an adjustment between the UK and the European Union, but does not yet involve the financial sector as one of the crucial sectors. In 2021, there was a blockade by French fishermen of the main Jersey port. As Jersey is a part of the Crown’s Dependency, the foreign affairs of Jersey are also the responsibility of the UK government. This blockade then invited military ships from Britain and France to secure a situation that increased the intensity between the two countries, coupled with a French bluff to block the British process from entering as an external party in the European Union financial sector. This paper discusses the factors that prompted France to issue this response through an economic constructivism approach that looks at the social aspects of the international political economy phenomenon. Based on the results of the discussion, the driving factors for France's attitude were protests by fishermen, perceptions of changes in Jersey maritime activity regulations, as well as uncertainty arising from the post-Brexit situation and regulations arising from TCA
Sino-American Rivalry: Global Climate Governance Leadership?
This paper attempts to describe the competitive implications of the United States and China in global climate governance. It is important to discuss because China and the United States have been in intense competition in recent years. Besides, the United States decided to leave the Paris Agreement to provide space for China to become a leader in the government and strengthen its influence in the international world. China's active role certainly has implications for its competition with the United States. This paper uses qualitative methods with secondary data sources. The findings of this paper are that China's influence and commitment to the Paris Agreement show that China has the potential to become a leader. However, its status as the largest developing country in the regime shows that China has not chosen to be a hegemon. This choice opens an opportunity for the United States to take the lead on climate change issues again
The Cooperation of UNHCR and Indonesia on Afghan Refugee Handling in Indonesia
Afghan refugees are currently the largest number of refugees in Indonesia. As a country that has not ratified the 1951 Refugee Convention, Indonesia does not have the right obligations and legal basis in dealing with refugee problems. Thus, Afghan refugees lose their basic human rights. Therefore, UNHCR and Indonesia must work together and share responsibilities in providing protection to refugees. The author uses the concept of refugees, international organizations and international cooperation to study secondary data that is collected and analyzed qualitatively. The data used relates to the condition of Afghan refugees in Indonesia, the role of UNHCR, and the collaborative process of UNHCR and the Indonesian government in handling Afghan refugees in Indonesia. This article finds that the work of UNHCR and the Government of Indonesia is carried out by adjusting actions through a policy coordination process and agreement on the scope of cooperation and setting an agenda that is in line with the objectives and programs to achieve temporary protection and empowerment of refugees. This cooperation results in the protection of the human rights of Afghan refugees, such as human rights at the shelter, other rights such as access to education for refugee children and transparency regarding the personal data of refugees registered in Indonesia for further empowerment solutions
Indonesia Dijajah Lebih dari 300 Tahun? Memahami Penjajahan Sebagai Proses Transformasi Struktural
Despite its public popularity, the claim that Indonesia was colonized by the Dutch for more than 300 years is now considered by historians as a historical myth, established as an instrument for nation-building. This article argues that rather than simply judging the claim as myth, we must understand it more comprehensively by employing the framework of International Political Economy, especially the approach which put the entanglements of Capitalism and Colonialism at the center of its analysis. By understanding Colonialism-Imperialism as a process (or a set of processes) of structural transformation, this article contends that the claim that Indonesia had been colonized by the Dutch for more than 300 years has its own merit and must be further explored
The Dilemma of Handling Asylum Seekers and Illegal Migrants: Expectation and Reality
The number of refugees and illegal migrants fleeing to Indonesia keeps growing significantly since Indonesia poses as a strategic place for a temporary stop before their main destination. This surely brings about predicaments to Indonesia. Against that background, this research aims toanswer the question of "How does the Indonesian government respond to the illegal migrant and refugees problem through the Immigration Detention Center (Rudenim) Semarang in Central Java?". This research is an explanatory research, where both primary and secondary data are used to support the findings. Through a qualitative approach, this research foundthat the government has responded to illegal migrant and refugees problems in a quite excellent manner such as the establishment of rumah detensi imigrasi (rudenim) or detention house and other forms of international cooperation. However, asylum seekers in Indonesia are not fully protected due to some factors such as the lack of regulation, the long-waiting period for the permanent placement and the lack of basic needs.Lastly, the situation only got worse because of the IOM and UNHCR support is still not optimal
Geopolitics Codes di Asia Tenggara dalam Geopolitical Structures Indo-Pasifik
By using three main concepts, namely geopolitical agents, geopolitical structures, and geopolitical codes, this study examines how the geopolitics of Southeast Asia after the Indo-Pacific initiative in 2007, especially in the framework of the ASEAN Outlook on Indo-Pacific. Assessing qualitatively-descriptively through analyzing data from various books, journals and credible websites, the authors argue that, apart from ASEAN, there are also a number of actors/agents in the form of countries that have influence in the geopolitical structure, especially in Southeast Asia and even in the Indo-Pacific in general, namely Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Malaysia. The concepts of The Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) and the ASEAN Outlook on Indo-Pacific (AOIPs) have also been part of the Indo-Pacific geopolitical structures. While the Philippines and Singapore tend to take sides in supporting the US Indo-Pacific idea, some of the other actors, namely Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, actually show a neutral position
Difusi Norma Kerja Sama Keamanan ASEAN Melawan Perdagangan Manusia
The United Nations (UN) ratified the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNCTOC) in 2000 as the norm for international security cooperation in addressing transnational crimes that threaten the global security. Transnational crimes include human trafficking that involves a wide range of criminal organizations and networks. Therefore, ASEAN also refers to UNCTOC and the Trafficking in Person (TIP) Protocol in overcoming transnational crimes, especially the fight against human trafficking. This paper proposes questions ASEAN's attitude to not adopt all UNCTOC norms and Trafficking in Person Protocol in the ASEAN Convention on Trafficking in Person, Especially Women and Children (ACTIP). This paper uses qualitative research methods and norm diffusion theory as the analytical framework. This study found that ASEAN did not fully adopt external norms because there were parts that were not in accordance with ASEAN's internal norms, so that ASEAN made adjustments between external norms and ASEAN internal norms in the formation of ACTIP which referred to ASEAN's cognitive priors, so that ACTIP became the security cooperation norms with human rights element
Proposal “Deal of the Century” dan Dampaknya bagi Proses Perdamaian Palestina-Israel
In January 2020, President Donald Trump put forward a peaceproposal which he claimed to be the “deal of the century”. It is apeace proposal that offers general framework on settlement ofborders, sovereignty of the Palestinian state, the status ofJerusalem, and refugees’ issue as well as a framework oneconomic cooperation between Palestine and Israel which Trumpinsisted as a fair final solution for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. This article seeks to assess the impact of this proposal to thePalestinian-Israeli peace process. In doing so, this article comparesthis proposal with previous agreements and concludes that thisproposal brings negative, rather than positive, impacts to the peaceprocess since it is not based on a balance positioning between thetwo conflicting parties. This proposal strengthens Israeli’s claimand hence enhances their position in the negotiation whichindicating the inability of the United States to serve as an honestbroker to the peace process. In addition, this proposal was putforward by President Trump during an unfavorable condition inboth Palestinian and Israeli domestic politics. The only positiveaspect of this proposal is that it can serve as a reason to restartnegotiation process. Therefore, this proposal should be consideredonly as a steppingstone to open another round of peace negotiationbetween Palestine and Israel and should not be implemented as it is
