I det ideala födandets gränsland. Normalisering av förlossningsberättelser i Sverige på 1990-talet

The aim of this article is to explore the process of normalization of childbirth narratives in the 1990ies. The disputed stories that are examined shed light on the negotiable borders of the acceptable and normal, and consequently on the ideal of how birth giving was supposed to be experienced, as well as told about. The childbirth narratives that during the 1990ies were marginalized, and in some cases completely silenced, concerned women whose birthing experiences questioned the ideal notion that childbirth is a transformative, albeit risky, project of heterosexual couples. Hence, narratives that caused a lot of controversy were those in which contemporary gender systems were challenged. They were narratives in which women acted as independent subjects, in which the birth took place in the home or as a short break during work. On the one hand, they were stories in which the authority of medical science was questioned, on the other, they were stories in which women demanded caesarians and refused to endorse natural childbirth as an ideal. Consequently, such stories marked the boundaries of the acceptable

    Roma minnes Egypts visdom

This article is a cultural historical interpretation of the elephant carrying an Egyptian obelisk on the Piazza della Minerva in Rome. The monument was designed by Bernini and dedicated to Divine Sapience by the Pope in 1667. Emphasis is given to the role of Athanasius Kircher, the Jesuit who was the leading âEgyptologistâ of baroque Rome, in the construction and interpretation of the monument. The thesis is that the monument is construed as a hieroglyph. This leads to the interpretative decision of reading the monument in the context of Kircherâs theory of hieroglyphics and Egyptian wisdom. Furthermore, it is shown that the monument, and the theory that grounds its iconography, is articulated with two more âtraditionalâ schemas for translation and transference of the âcultureâ and âhistoryâ of the âotherâ in Roman and Roman Catholic thought, the interpretatio romana and the estudii translatio et imperii. While Kircherâs theory sheds light on the iconography and message of the monument, the monument as a politico-religious message also illustrates the political use of Kircherâs thought in the urban space of baroque Rome. The practice of translation and transference of the wisdom of Egypt on the Piazza della Minerva is examined with reference to Jan Assmannâs theory of cultural semiotics and translation

The purpose of this article is to analyze the relationship between emotions and narration. The main question concerns how emotions are communicated in and by written narratives. The analysis is based on a Jewish womanâs written manuscript from Holocaust, archived as a Jewish Memory at The Nordic museum in Stockholm. In the article it is analyzed how the writer/narrator, with the help of formal and artistic techniques, communicates emotions and establishes emotional relations with the readers. The manuscript proves a good example of the complexity of the relationship between emotions and narration. The article shows that the relationship concerns genre, authority and authenticity, meaning that it has to do with which genre that is chosen for narrating, and that it concerns who the writer/narrator is, as well as if she has experienced what she writes/narrates about. In the article it is also shown that the emotions created in the narration is depending upon the character of the events recounted, how the tale worlds are depicted, as well as how the narration itself is experienced by the writer/narrator

Olea Crøger, 2004. Lilja bære blomster i enge â Folkeminneoppskrifter frå Telemark i 1840-50-åra

Landstad ind i folkeviseverdenen.

Gatekunst i Bergen

In 2011 the Municipality of Bergen implemented a plan on dealing with and developing urban visual expressions such as graffiti and street art. Together with other factors, this plan and its consequences have led to increased interest in street art and graffiti in Bergen. The plan seems to have a different impact on different groups within the urban art scene in Bergen. I argue that the city in general strengthens its identity as unprejudiced and innovative, while rebel identity in the local urban art environment can be said to be impaired. Street art generally seems to welcome legitimation and a broader interest. Graffiti has several and different challenges in the face of the old main enemy – society’s apparatus for control, in this context represented by a municipal plan. Graffiti painters problematize commercialization and regulation, which can be understood as a reaction based on a more unified and consolidated tradition of rebel culture

    Hardingfelene frå Sandland

    Get PDF
Members of the Sandland family in Kviteseid, Telemark, made during a period from the mid 1870âs to the start of the 1970âs more than 900 Hardanger fiddles. Their business blossomed in a time when Hardanger fiddles were highly in demand. Who may have taught the craft to the Sandland builders? What type of Hardanger fiddle may be considered as the base or prototype for the Sandland fiddles? How did they develop their market? How was the reception of their instruments in their time, and how are they assessed today? To what extent have the Sandland builders exerted influence on other Hardanger fiddle builders

Jacobsen, Knut. Jainismen: Religion, historie og ickevold

    Get PDF
