    During the summers 2015, 2016 and 2017, we carried out some gravity campaigns at the Askja Volcano, in collaboration with the University of Iceland and the financial support of FUTUREVOLC, GSRG, COMET, RAS and EUROVOLC. In 2015, we added five new benchmarks to the existing gravity network (MYV1, MYV2, CASK, STAM and VATN), and we redefined the benchmark at DYNG. Each campaign was carried out over 4-5 days, using the Scintrex CG-5 gravimeter No. 968, owned by the University of Iceland. For each survey, I was accompanied by a co-worker, Stephanie Dumont (2015, 2016) and Andy Hooper (2017), to help handling the gravimeter smoothly. Each measurement consisted of a series of 5 1-min samples, automatically recorded successively, and a despiking filter was applied during the recording. Benchmarks were usually reoccupied twice, ideally at different times of the day, but when necessary the two measurements were carried out one after the other, with a break of 10-15 minutes in between. Vibration noise was minimised by sheltering the gravimeter and remaining static during the 5 minutes of measurement. The files provided here list the raw data recorded per day during each survey (YYYYMMDD.csv). In each file, the column “GRAV” provides the gravity measurement per site occupation, with “SD” being the associated standard deviation. It is worth noting that an automatic Earth tide reduction has been applied to the measurements, but it can be manually cancelled using values in the column “TIDE”

    Learning manipulation planning from VR human demonstrations

    The objective of this project is learning high-level manipulation planning skills from humans and transfer these skills to robot planners. We used virtual reality to generate data from human participants whilst they reached for objects on a cluttered table top. From this, we devised a qualitative representation of the task space to abstract human decisions, irrespective of the number of objects in the way. Based on this representation, human demonstrations were segmented and used to train decision classifiers. Using these classifiers, our planner produced a list of waypoints in the task space. These waypoints provide a high-level plan, which can be transferred to any arbitrary robot model. The VR dataset is released here

    We have performed a detailed investigation into the inter-subband scattering within InAs/GaSb coupled quantum wells in the electron dominated regime. By considering the carrier mobilities and the quantum lifetime as a function of carrier density, we find that the occupation of higher order electron-like subbands are inhibited by anticrossing with the hole subbands. We also find that, by applying a gate bias to the GaSb layer, we are able to move the electron-hole anticrossing point in energy, modulating the electron-like states that should be localised within the InAs layer

    LIS-MAL estimates of hydro-climatic suitability for malaria transmission in Africa (1971-2100)

    Estimates of climatic suitability for malaria transmission in Africa over the periods 1971-2005, 2011-2040, 2041-2070 and 2071-2100. Seven climate projections using the high concentration scenario (RCP 8.5) were produced with EC-EARTH3-HR v3.1 by the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (described in the Excel workbook). These were used to run the Lisflood hydrological model at 0.5 degree resolution and estimate hydro-climatic suitability for malaria transmission based on the Mordecai temperature ranges and Lisflood-predicted surface water availability. For each time period and each of the seven GCMs (i.e. 28 rasters) a 0.5 degree raster layer of the ‘number of suitable months for malaria transmission’ over Africa is presented in the form of a Geotiff. An Excel spreadsheet summarises these files in terms of total area in each 1 month category for the Lisflood estimates and the estimated changes in suitability between time periods. The population estimated to live within areas hydro-climatically suitable for malaria transmission is also presented, incorporating both present day estimates and future predictions. These data are broken down by country and summarised in terms of ‘population months’ for each time period
