    Output from a set of 9 global climate simulations for four transient scenarios of ice sheet meltwater contributions to the Meltwater Pulse 1a rapid sea level rise ~14.5 ka. The simulations were run with the HadCM3 general circulation model at the University of Leeds. They correspond to a 'background' meltwater flux (which comprises the first 525 years of all four meltwater pulse scenarios: teqjb) and the four transient meltwater pulse scenarios ('hiN_loS': teqjc + teqjg; 'hiS_loN': teqjd + teqjh; 'hiN_leads_loS': teqje + teqji; 'hiS_leads_loN': teqjf + teqjj), where the first simulation has a transient meltwater forcing for Meltwater Pulse 1a (teqjc, teqjd, teqje and teqjf, respectively), and the second simulation is a continuation returning to the 'background' meltwater flux (teqjg, teqjh, teqji and teqjj, respectively). All of these scenarios are fully described in the accompanying paper (Ivanovic et al., 2018, Geophysical Research Letters, doi: 10.1029/2018GL077623). The data is provided in NETCDF3 format within zipped directories corresponding to the meltwater scenarios. It consists of the freshwater forcing files (i.e. model input) and model output for each simulation. Model output is provided as time-series for a range of ocean, atmosphere and vegetation data. See the accompanying README.txt for a list of supplied output variables as well as more information on the directory structure for the supplied data

    Calcium oxide-based sorbents were coated onto Saffil ceramic fibres by means of a wet impregnation method. The effect of synthesis parameters on the crystalline structure, morphology and texture of the CaO layer were investigated by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and gas adsorption techniques. The analyses revealed that the optimised synthesis method produced a uniform coating composed of a network of CaO nanoflakes. The evaluation of the materials as CO2 sorbents was performed under repeated carbonation-decarbonation cycles using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). A nominal 25 wt. % loading of CaO gave a CO2 uptake capacity of 0.118 mg CO2/mg of sorbent (carbonation at 650°C in 90% CO2 and decarbonation at 850°C in N2). A 5 wt. % loading exhibited improved durability with a ~30% decay in carrying capacity after 30 TGA cycles, but at the expense of initial uptake capacity

    Gold nanoparticles-enabled intracellular surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) provides a sensitive and promising technique for single cell analysis. Compared with spherical gold nanoparticles, gold nanoflowers, i.e., flower-shaped gold nanostructures, can produce a stronger SERS signal. Current exploration of gold nanoflowers for intracellular SERS has been considerably limited by the difficulties in preparation, as well as background signal and cytotoxicity arising from the surfactant capping layer. Recently, we have developed a facile and surfactant-free method for fabricating hollow-channel gold nanoflowers (HAuNFs) with great single-particle SERS activity. In this paper, we investigate the cellular uptake and cytotoxicity of our HAuNFs using a RAW 264.7 macrophage cell line, and have observed effective cellular internalization and low cytotoxicity. We have further engineered our HAuNFs into SERS-active tags, and demonstrated the functionality of the obtained tags as trimodal nanoprobes for dark-field and fluorescence microscopy imaging, together with intracellular SERS

    This dataset contains output from a set of two published global climate simulations that investigate the role of ice sheet melting in the onset of Heinrich Stadial 1 ocean circulation and climate changes ~18.5 thousand years ago. The simulations were run with the HadCM3 general circulation model at the University of Leeds. Here, the simulations are named 'lgm_control' (set up to simulate the climate of 21 ka) and 'hs1', which is the simulation presented in the associated manuscript: Ivanovic, R. F., Gregoire, L. J., Burke, A., Wickert, A. D., Valdes, P. J., Ng, H. C., et al. (2018). Acceleration of northern ice sheet melt induces AMOC slowdown and northern cooling in simulations of the early last deglaciation. Paleoceanography and Paleoclimatology. https://doi.org/10.1029/2017PA003308. The hs1 simulation is the same as lgm_control, but it also includes a transient ice meltwater flux to the ocean derived from the ICE-6G_C global ice sheet history.     Analysis inputs for validation of six global flood models against observed flood events in Nigeria and Mozambique

    This dataset contains the inputs used for validation of six global flood models (GFMs) against observed events in Nigeria and Mozambique. The dataset includes shapefiles that contain the analysis areas for the three study regions of Lokoja, Idah, and Chemba. For each study region, the observed flooding (obtained from the Dartmouth Flood Observatory) is included in GeoTIFF raster format at a resolution of 1/1200 decimal degrees (~90m). For each study region, the modelled flood extent from 6 GFMs is included in GeoTIFF raster format, resampled to a resolution of 1/1200 decimal degrees (~90m). Individual GFM output is provided in return periods of 25 and 100 years. The GFMs included are: CaMa-Flood, GLOFRIS, ECMWF, JRC, SSBN, and CIMA-UNEP. Finally, for each study region, the 25 year return period aggregated flood model (an output from the Global Flood Model Intercomparison Project) is included in GeoTIFF raster format at a resolution of 1/1200 decimal degrees (~90m). Each file is in the WGS84 projection

    Magnetic skyrmions have excited much interest as the basis for novel data storage applications in which information is encoded and transferred in these magnetic knot-like quasiparticles. The proposed read-out of any such skyrmion-based spintronic device will rely upon the electrical detection of a single magnetic skyrmion within a nanostructure, through, for example, a change in the Hall resistivity. We have fabricated nanodiscs from multilayers of Pt/Co/Ir which can support skyrmions at room temperature and have measured the Hall resistivity whilst simultaneously imaging the spin texture using magnetic scanning transmission x-ray microscopy. We show that the Hall resistivity is correlated to both the presence and size of a magnetic skyrmion in the nanodisc and that the size-dependent part matches the expected anomalous Hall signal when averaging the magnetisation over the disc. The additional contribution arising from the presence of the single skyrmion is 11±1 nΩ cm
