    Mise en Equations des Propriétés Physiques, Mécaniques, et Thermiques des Bétons Contenant des Déchets Plastiques

    Research on concrete containing plastic waste has made it possible to understand their behavior and to demonstrate the relevance of their use. But it is clear that equations governing the behavior of this type of concrete are lacking. In this logic, this study is in line. The objective is then, to propose formulas governing the physical, mechanical and thermal properties of concrete containing plastic waste. The proposed formulas were validated by referenced test values.  In total, five hundred and twenty-four experimental and theoretical values were processed and analyzed. The experimental values were collected and analyzed and compared with the theoretical values from the proposed equations. The results obtained allowed to conclude that the proposed equations are all relevant. La recherche concernant les bétons contenant des déchets plastiques, a permis de comprendre leur comportement et à démontrer la pertinence de leur utilisation. Mais force est de constater que des équations qui régissent le comportement de ce type de béton font défaut. Dans cette logique, s’inscrit donc cette étude. L’objectif est alors, de proposer des formules régissant les propriétés physiques, mécaniques et thermiques des bétons contenant des déchets plastiques. Les formules proposées ont été validées par des valeurs d’essais référenciées.  Au total, cinq cent vingt-quatre valeurs expérimentales et théoriques ont été traitées et analysées. Les valeurs expérimentales ont été collectées et analysées puis comparées aux valeurs théoriques issues des équations proposées. Les résultats obtenus ont permis de conclure que les équations proposées sont toutes pertinentes.

    Research on Using Dolomite Aggregate as Cement Treated Base for Highway Pavement Construction in Ninh Binh, Vietnam

    Dolomite is commonly used in the construction of highway pavement in the world. However, there are still no concrete specifications or regulations on the use of dolomite for highway construction. Dolomite is available in huge quantities in NinhBinh Province. This is a high potential material for grain bases of highway pavement structure. The alternative material could be a considerable contribution to diversify the supply of aggregate resources for highway pavement construction in the province, and thus contribute to the conservation of natural landscape heritages and limestone resources for related building materials manufacturing industries. In order to evaluate the use of dolomite in highway pavement construction, a research program is conducted to test the working capacity of the cement treated dolomite aggregate, which is intended to use as upper base material in pavement structure. The experimental results showed that the mechanical indicators of the mixture satisfy the requirements for the base layers of highway pavement structure

    Multi-level damage detection using a combination of deep neural networks

    In recent years, bridge damage identification using a convolutional neural network (CNN) has become a hot research topic and received much attention in the field of civil engineering. Although CNN is capable of categorizing damaged and undamaged states from the measured data, the level of accuracy for damage diagnosis is still insufficient due to the tendency of CNN to ignore the temporal dependency between data points. To address this problem, this paper introduces a novel hybrid damage detection method based on the combination of CNN and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) to classify and quantify different levels of damage in the bridge structure. In this method, the CNN model will be used to extract the spatial damage features, which will be combined with the temporal features obtained from Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) model to create the enhanced damage features. The combination successfully strengthened the damage detection capability of the neural network. Moreover, deep learning is also improved in this paper to process the acceleration-time data, which has a different amplitude at short intervals and the same amplitude at long intervals. The empirical result on the Vang bridge shows that our hybrid CNN-LSTM can detect structural damage with a high level of accuracy

    Thermo mechanical characteristics of Sisal fibre reinforced composites after treatment with potassium permanganate and stearic acid

    This paper presents an experimental study of epoxy and sisal fibre composites with and without potassium permanganate and stearic acid treatment. A compression moulding technique was used to develop the composites. Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), tensile and flexural tests, and scanning electron microscopy were used to investigate the thermal and mechanical behaviour of these composites. SEM images of sisal fibres revealed improvements in the fibre's surface topography further to the surface stearic acid treatment process. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis reveals that sisal fibre is crystalline in nature. When sisal fibre was treated with streaic acid, the tensile strength increased to 43.45 MPa. Potassium permanganate-treated fibre reinforced composites demonstrated high potential flexural strength. SEM analysis revealed that stearic acid-treated fibre improved interfacial adhesion between the fibres and matrix

    Evaluation of Tribological aspects of Al-Si 12 alloy and their Metal Matrix hybrid Composites produced by Liquid-metal Forging Method

    Particulate Aluminium Metal Matrix Composites (Al-MMC) have emerged as advanced engineering materials in view of their improved properties. Ceramic reinforced Al-MMC were more suitable because of being economical and exhibiting isotropic properties. Al-MMCs manufacturing methods are expensive, demand skilled and complex operations and vortex liquid metallurgy results into higher porosity. The liquid-metal forging/squeezed casting of stirred molten slurry can eliminate porosity as molten metal is pressurized during solidification forming near net shapes. During many instances, influence of process parameter (PP)s on mechanical part properties is being studied. In the present study, composites were produced using Al-Si12 alloy as base material, aluminium oxide and silicon carbide particles as reinforcements by varying the PPs. Tribological tests were conducted under dry sliding condition at room temperature showed hard reinforcements in Al alloy reduced the wear rate (WR) and increased the coefficient of friction (f) for all PPs. For PPs, increasing the squeeze pressure and decreasing the pouring and die preheating temperature resulted in a reduction of WR and f with an increase in normal load and sliding velocity. Initially f falls and then raised with an increase in normal load, but only raised with growing sliding velocity compared to Aluminium base material.
