    Bias Gender dalam Tafsir: Kritik atas Dalil dan Pandangan Misoginis Terhadap Kemandulan Perempuan

    In the Quran, the term infertility is expressed with the words 'āqir and 'aqīm. The word 'āqir is used to describe the condition of barrenness experienced by the wife of Prophet Zakariya. While lafadz 'aqīm is used to explain the condition of infertility experienced by the wife of Prophet Ibrahim. The scholars have different opinions in interpreting these two words. Some of them define both of them as sterility which is a special condition for women so that the woman cannot become pregnant. These arguments about infertility need to be studied in depth because they contradict one of the visions of Islam that teaches equality. It is not the text that is wrong, but human understanding of a proposition that needs to be straightened out. In studying the verses about infertility, the researcher uses the qirā`ah mubādalah approach by understanding the verses of the Qur'an through universal texts, finding the main idea or moral ideal of a verse and implementing the main idea to the verse. Implementing the main idea to a general subject without distinguishing gender and sex. The results show that 'āqir is sterility that can happen to anyone regardless of gender. The cause of 'āqir is the presence of certain factors that prevent pregnancy.  If these factors are removed, then pregnancy can occur. Whereas 'aqīm is sterility that can happen to anyone regardless of gender. Unlike 'āqir, 'aqīm is sterility that is known from the beginning, because it is created that way. Therefore, attributing 'āqir and 'aqīm only to women is a gender-biased understanding, because sterility can be caused by anyone, regardless of gender. This kind of understanding needs to be developed to produce egalitarian values in the midst of society.

    This study investigates the presence of the Qur'an within the agricultural community of Madura. The study of the living Quran encompasses the reception of the Qur'an in the practical context of farming in Madura. This research examines the way in which the Qur'an is experienced and practiced within a specific community, focusing on its performative nature and positioning it under the frame of discursive tradition. The research aims to address two main questions: firstly, what are the many modes of Qur'an performance among the agricultural community in Madura; and secondly, how does the discursive tradition around these performances manifest itself. This study is grounded in a field investigation that gathers data through interviews, observations, and supplementary literature reviews. This article contends that the Qur'an serves as both a prayer and an integral part of the daily life of the farming community in Madura, from the pre-farming stage to harvesting. Additionally, it highlights the pivotal role of the kiai in transmitting Islamic teachings, resulting in the development of traditions that are prevalent among the Madurese community

    This article examines the practice of reciting surah al-Insyirah and surah al-Ikhlas of the congregation of the Miftahul Huda Mosque Domerto Munjungan Trenggalek, East Java. The focus of this article is to examine the reception of the Qur'an in the recitation of surah al-Insyirah and surah al-Ikhlas of the congregation of the Miftahul Huda Mosque Domerto Munjungan, Trenggalek, East Java. The formulation of the problem in this study is, 1) how is the ritual of reading surah al-Insyirah and surah al-Ikhlas, 2) how is the meaning of the congregation according to the sociological theory of knowledge of Karl Mannheim, 3) how is its transmission and transformation. This article is a field study using a qualitative descriptive method. The tools used for data collection are interviews with 12 people, observations carried out 4 times and a literature review. This article also uses Karl Mannheim's theory of sociology of knowledge. After the researchers conducted the research, it can be concluded that the congregation of the Miftahul Huda Mosque Domerto Munjungan Trenggalek routinely performs the practice of reciting surah al-Insyirah and surah al-Ikhlas. First, this reading is done every Monday night after the congregational Isha' prayer. Second, the meaning contained is divided into 3 meanings, the first meaning is the objective meaning where in this meaning the Miftahul Huda mosque congregation understands the practice of reading Surah al-Insyirah and Surah al-Ikhlas as routine activities carried out every Monday night. The second meaning is expressive meaning that can be seen from the congregation's response to the practice of reciting surah al-Insyirah and surah al-Ikhlas as a means of friendship between others, a form of connecting ties of brotherhood, as a means of increasing devotion to Allah, and is believed to be able to carry out all their affairs. . The last meaning is the documentary meaning which can be seen that this practice is a culture that is ingrained and cannot be released for the congregation. Third, the process of transmission and transformation can be seen from several hadiths that explain it. The transmission process of surah al-Insyirah and surah al-Ikhlas can be known through hadith narrations. In the transmission of surah al-Insyirah, the author finds the book of maraqil ubudiyah and the book of khazinat al-Asrar. While the transmission of Surah al-Ikhlas comes from the hadith of 'Aisyah ra about the habits of the Prophet Muhammad before sleeping. The transformation can be seen from the changes during the time of the Prophet Muhammad, becoming a practice that is carried out every Monday night after the Isha prayer by the congregation of the Miftahul Huda Mosque Domerto Munjungan Trenggalek

    This study examines the concept of gratitude (syukur) in Sayyid Quṭb's (1906 CE) tafsir Fī Ẓilāl al-Qur’ān, which integrates theological and logical aspects in its interpretation. The research employs content analysis with a qualitative approach, focusing on Quṭb's interpretations of Quranic verses related to gratitude. The primary data sources are the tafsir Fī Ẓilāl al-Qur’ān and related literature discussing Quṭb’s thought. The findings reveal that Quṭb provides a comprehensive understanding of gratitude encompassing theological, cognitive, and philosophical dimensions. He emphasizes that gratitude is not merely a verbal expression or ritual worship but also involves human awareness of free choice and the logical consequences of their actions. This research fills a gap in previous studies that have often overlooked an in-depth analysis of the concept of gratitude in Quṭb’s tafsir and contributes significantly to understanding how the Quran connects theological and logical dimensions within the context of human life

    Jihad in the recent decade has become a sensitive issue due to misconceptions rooted in a literal understanding that associates jihad with religious violence, an idea that is frequently referred to as 'holy terrorism.' In reality, jihad has a broader meaning that is not synonymous with violence or war. This study discusses the interpretations of two important figures in Qur'anic and Tafsir scholarship in Indonesia today, namely Muhammad Chirzin and Sahiron Syamsuddin, in order to reveal the meaning of jihad and examine the construction of thought that underpins that meaning, particularly in the Indonesian context. The question that will be studied by this paper is how the thoughts of the two figures in interpreting the verses of jihad and how the epistemological structure of the interpretation of the verses of jihad of the two figures? To answer these questions, this article uses a historical-factual approach. This paper contends that the two figures discussed have conducted extensive research on the concept of jihad, and the results of their interpretations disprove the identical association between jihad and war. According to Muhammad Chirzin, the object of jihad is all forms of evil, so jihad for him takes two forms: policy socialization and internalization (amar makruf) and prevention and elimination of evil (nahi munkar). Meanwhile, Sahiron Syamsuddin defines jihad as the removal of oppression, the preservation of religious freedom, and the establishment of peace. These two figures demonstrate that jihad, when studied thoroughly using valid academic instruments, does not justify violence and terrorism

    Various kinds of religious problems in the context of the state such as intolerance between religious communities made the state through the Ministry of Religious Affairs in 2019 formulate a religious moderation program. The importance of this program can be seen from the inclusion of religious moderation in Konsep Rencana Pembangunan Jangka Menengah Nasional 2020-2024 by Bappenas. On the other hand, the Ministry of Religious Affairs has since the 60s produced Qur'anic literature, especially translation and interpretation of the Qur'an. Thus, seeing the continuity of the concept of religious moderation in the Ministry's interpretive products is important. This article tries to discuss this through the following questions: how do the interpretation products of the Ministry of Religious Affairs discuss religious moderation? This study focuses on three main keywords of religious moderation, namely tawāsuṭ, tawāzun, and ʿadālah. The interpretation of these three words will be traced from Al-Qur’an dan Tafsirnya Edisi yang Disempurnakan (2011) dan Tafsir Tematik: Moderasi Islam (2022). To see the continuity of the idea of religious moderation, the interpretations in the two commentaries will be compared with the latest literature products from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, namely Moderasi Beragama and Implementasi Moderasi Beragama dalam Pendidikan Islam. The results obtained are: First, when viewed from the discourse on religious moderation, both the interpretation of the Ministry of Religion and its two latest works show a continuous discourse. The definitions and meanings of key terms that have been explained such as tawāsuṭ, ʿadālah, and tawāzun do not show much difference between these works. Second, when viewed from the discourse on religious moderation in terms of the state, between the interpretation of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the two books in question there are a number of differences. This can be seen from the Ministry's own tafsir, which interprets religious moderation in general in the Qur'an, more than the two recent works of the Ministry

Buku ini ditulis oleh Siti Mariatul Kiptiyah, alumnus Pascasarjana UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, Jurusan Interdisciplinary Islamic Studies, konsentrasi Hermeneutika Al-Qur’an. Buku ini berawal dari tesis penulis yang kemudian mendapatkan penghargaan Nusantara Academic Award (NAA) 2019 yang diselenggarakan oleh Nusantara Institute. Dalam pengantarnya, Sumanto Al Qurtuby, direktur Nusantara Institute, menulis bahwa NAA diadakan sebagai pendorong peneliti-peneliti junior untuk melakukan penelitian serius atas khazanah luhur warisan para leluhur bangsa. Setelah melewati seleksi yang ketat, tesis Siti Mariatul Kiptiyah ini diputuskan untuk mendapatkan penghargaan, dan kemudian diterbitkan oleh eLSA Press pada Maret 2020

    The Qur'anic verse is indeed a text, which to understand it needs to be bridged by scholars who are qualified in the field of linguistic rules to produce an interpretation. Mufasirs and Muslims in general place interpretation as a reference for understanding the Qur'an, but for Jane Dammen McAuliffe, interpretation controls the meaning of the Qur'an. McAuliffe believes that the two cannot be equated and aligned as a way to understand the Qur'an. Thus, one cannot be generalized to represent the general view. The purpose of this article is to attempt to illustrate how McAuliffe views the relationship between the Qur'ān and tafsir as one of the Islamic thinkers. To further examine McAuliffe's thoughts, the method the author uses is library research with a content analysis approach. The results of this article are: First, McAuliffe explains that the interpretation of the Qur'an has been controlling the meaning of the Qur'an. Second, the Qur'an is morphologically unchanging, it lives semantically. Meanwhile, tafsir is considered as a particular hermeneutical configuration. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that the Qur'anic verse is indeed a text, which requires linguistic rules to understand. However, the text is also an integrated part of the context, stripping the context that should be attached to the text has the potential to cause gaps in meaning

    The development of PAI teaching materials on Qur'anic sub-materials is related to the development of Qur'anic science and tafsir.  If the development of teaching materials for the Qur'an does not pay attention to the trend of Qur'anic studies, the understanding obtained by students is less relevant to the context of life they experience. This article will discuss three fundamental things: how is the structure of Qur'anic material in PAI subjects in schools, how is the contextuality of Qur'anic understanding presented in PAI teaching materials in schools, and how is the approach needed for the development of Qur'anic material in PAI teaching materials in schools. The research method used is library research with data collected through documentation method in the form of Islamic teaching materials for elementary, junior and senior high schools published by the Centre for Curriculum and Bookkeeping of the Ministry of National Education. The collected data were then classified, presented in the presentation of data and analysed by the method of text analysis with an explanatory analysis approach, namely describing and criticising the substance of its content according to the categories in the research problem. The results of the study show a discrepancy between the objectives of learning al-Qu'ran at the elementary, junior high and high school levels with a number of supporting things. The priority of learning to read as the purpose of learning the Qur'an at the primary level is disrupted by the purpose of learning the Qur'an at the primary level which is also aimed at understanding the content of the Qur'an by interpreting the verses of the Qur'an. While the material for understanding the content of the Qur'an at the junior and senior high school levels is still very minimal from the source of tafsir sources so that the learning material is less contextual and actual.
