Keterkaitan Antara Ilmu Agama dan Ilmu Sosial: : Evolusi Studi Al‐Qur’an dan Tafsir di Indonesia

    No full text
This research focuses on efforts toward contextualization in the study of the Qur'an and tafsir. The contextualization approach, which is frequently employed by integrating religious studies with contemporary social sciences, often overlooks the core aspects of Qur'anic and tafsir studies. Consequently, this study aims to elucidate the application and forms of integration between religious studies and contemporary social sciences. To achieve this objective, the research employs a qualitative methodology with content analysis as the analytical tool. The central question addressed in this research is: what are the forms of Qur'anic discourse and scientific integration in Indonesia? The findings reveal various forms of integration that can be implemented, such as the re-integration of tafsir studies using contemporary approaches and the reinterpretation of Qur'anic verses through hermeneutics. The application of contemporary methodologies not only yields normative studies but also enhances objectivity and relevance to the current social context. Furthermore, this research underscores the significance of Qur'anic studies in addressing contemporary issues while preserving the scientific integrity of existing core studies

    No full text
This study explores innovative approaches in Talwīn Syāṭibiyyah, a text that employs various color codes to facilitate the learning of qirā’āt, particularly for students at Markaz Qiroat Indonesia (MQI). The primary objective of this research is to analyze how the use of coloration techniques influences learners' comprehension, memorization, and overall engagement during the learning process. Employing a qualitative framework, the study utilizes content analysis of sample texts, footnotes, and user feedback regarding the application of colors—red, green, blue, and cream—that highlight significant aspects of qirā’āt. Data collection methods include interviews with both learners and instructors at MQI, as well as an in-depth review of the text itself.  The results indicate that the diverse use of colors aids learners in identifying key elements, such as the rules and variations of recitation. Furthermore, brief explanations accompanying the verses help readers better understand complex segments of the text. However, some participants noted that an excessive number of visual cues may distract from focus, particularly during the memorization process. Nevertheless, the overall reception of Talwīn Syāṭibiyyah has been positive, as it enhances comprehension and improves retention of qirā’āt knowledge. These findings suggest the potential for applying similar methods to other Islamic texts in order to enhance the effectiveness and accessibility of learning

Menelisik Metodologi Tafsir Kontemporer:: Studi atas Safīnah Kallā Saya’lamūn fī Tafsīri Shaikhinā Maimūn karya Ismail Al-Ascholīy

    No full text
This study focuses on the methodology employed by Ismail Al-Ascholiy in his interpretation of Safīnah Kalla Sayaʾlamūn fī Tafsīr Shaikhinā Maimūn. As a tafsir text that emerges from KH Maimun Zubair’s interpretive transcripts, this work offers a new nuance and appears somewhat unfamiliar within the spectrum of Indonesian tafsir. Hence, it serves as an appealing locus for research on Indonesian tafsir, given the absence of a comprehensive methodological study on this particular tafsir text. To examine the methodology of Safīnah Kalla Sayaʾlamūn fī Tafsīr Shaikhinā Maimūn, this research draws upon Islah Gusmian’s theoretical framework of tafsir book methodology and employs a qualitative approach in the form of content analysis. The findings indicate that Safīnah is presented thematically. In clarifying its verses, the tafsir tends to explain them globally using a popular writing style, which does not fulfill formal academic standards. This is because it was neither intended for academic purposes nor written under the auspices of any institutional affiliation. Judging by its method, this tafsir adopts a contextual approach by incorporating historical elements and reason, thereby producing a distinctly social nuance in its interpretation

Kesaksian Perempuan dalam Al-Qur’an: Studi Analisis Kitab Tafsir Al-Azhar dan Tafsir Al-Mishbah

The discourse on women's testimony in the Qur'an has sparked diverse interpretations among Indonesian exegetes, reflecting various methodological approaches and socio-cultural backgrounds. One of the key verses on this issue is QS. 2:282, which outlines the procedures for recording financial transactions, including the requirement of witnesses. This study compares the interpretations of Hamka in Tafsir al-Azhar and M. Quraish Shihab in Tafsir al-Mishbah. Hamka adheres to a traditionalist stance, arguing that one male witness is equivalent to two female witnesses due to men’s greater involvement in public affairs. Conversely, Quraish Shihab adopts a contextual approach, asserting that testimony should be based on competence rather than gender. Employing qualitative research with content analysis, this study reveals that socio-historical factors significantly shape exegetical conclusions. Hamka’s interpretation reflects the social structure of his time, whereas Quraish Shihab accommodates modern societal changes. This research highlights the evolving nature of Islamic exegesis and emphasizes the importance of contextual reinterpretation in addressing gender justice. By comparing these two prominent tafsir works, the study contributes to the discourse on women's legal standing in Islamic jurisprudence and its implications for contemporary Muslim societies

Controversies surrounding the interpretation of Qur’anic verses through textual and contextual approaches have intensified, sparking intense debate among scholars, practitioners, and having widespread social implications. Interpretations that focus solely on the textual dimension, without considering the historical and sociocultural contexts, frequently lead to misunderstandings and may even be exploited by certain groups to justify extremist acts. Conversely, the contextual approach provides a more inclusive alternative by emphasizing the relevance of Qur’anic values to contemporary challenges, though it often faces criticism for allegedly compromising textual authenticity. This study aims to propose a synthesis of both approaches in order to achieve a more comprehensive and responsive understanding. Employing a library-based research method and critical analysis of pertinent literature on these two interpretive typologies, the findings indicate that integrating textual and contextual perspectives can prevent distorted interpretations, preserve textual authenticity, and simultaneously address social dynamics. As a result, the understanding of the Qur’an is no longer trapped in a rigid textual-contextual dichotomy but rather moves toward a more balanced and adaptive interpretatio

Kisah Al-Qur'an dalam Tafsir Modern: Peninjauan Narasi Kisah Nabi Sulaiman dan Harut dan Marut dalam Q. 2:102 Menurut Tafsir al-Azhar Karya Hamka

This article provides a detailed analysis of the presentation of Qur'anic stories in contemporary tafsir, with a specific focus on examining the nature and characteristics of modern tafsir. The current approach employed to differentiate classical and modern tafsir has primarily relied on periodization, making it inadequate in addressing the fundamental inquiry regarding the distinguishing characteristics of tafsir's various realities, encompassing both classical and modern iterations. The scholarly discourse surrounding contemporary tafsir subsequently transitions from examining the chronological classification of tafsir to exploring the distinct and varied nature of Qur'anic interpretation as an observable phenomenon. This article aims to provide a focused analysis of Tafsir Al-Azhar, a prominent contemporary exegesis authored by the Indonesian scholar Hamka. The primary objective of this study is to examine Hamka's exegesis of the narrative verses found in the Qur'an. The purpose of selecting this theme is to identify the unique characteristics of modern tafsir, which distinguish it from classical tafsir. This study aims to examine the process of producing modern tafsir, with a particular focus on the interpretation of Qur'anic verses that pertain to the narrative of Prophet Sulaymān, as well as Hārūt and Mārūt mentioned in Q. 2: 102. The contention put forth in this article posits that the categorization of commentaries as classical or modern cannot be definitively determined by the inclusion or exclusion of isrā'īliyāt, as it will invariably be intertwined with the interpretation of Quranic verses pertaining to narratives. However, contemporary scholars of exegesis have revisited a longstanding subject that has historically posed challenges within the Islamic community. This pertains to the question surrounding the validity and significance of isrā'īliyāt literature employed in the interpretation of religious texts. In this particular scenario, there is a tendency among scholars to dismiss isrā'īliyāt narrations that remain subject to debate among both classical and contemporary mufassirs, as well as narratives that lack rational basis

The utilization of natural resources for food production is vital for meeting the needs and enhancing the welfare of Indonesia. Despite Indonesia's significant agricultural potential, challenges such as land scarcity, fertilizer shortages, pest infestations, and unpredictable global climate changes have impacted the food sector, leading the country to become a rice importer since the 1997 economic crisis. This research aims to examine the interpretation of agricultural verses in the Qur'an by comparing Quraish Shihab's Tafsir Al-Mishbah and the Tafsir Ilmi developed by the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag). Employing a descriptive and comparative literature review methodology, the study utilizes primary sources including the Qur'an, Tafsir Al-Mishbah, and Tafsir Ilmi, alongside secondary sources from various scholarly works. The research addresses two primary questions: (1) What are the similarities and differences in the interpretations of agricultural verses between the two tafsir sources? (2) How do these interpretations contribute to the development of the agricultural sector? Findings indicate that both tafsir emphasize agriculture as an integral part of human life intertwined with spiritual and moral values. Tafsir Ilmi highlights scientific and ecological aspects, while Tafsir Al-Mishbah focuses on philosophical and ethical dimensions. The integration of scientific knowledge and religious values offers a comprehensive framework for sustainable agricultural practices, thereby providing significant contributions to overcoming current agricultural challenges in Indonesia.

Tafsir dalam Jejaring Intelektual Indonesia-Hijaz: Kajian Genealogi Al-Ibrīz li Maʿrifati Tafsīr Al-Qur’ān Al-‘Azīz karya Bisri Mustofa

One of the crucial factors to take into account when examining the variety of Qur'anic interpretations is networks of scholarly transmission. In the realm of Indonesian exegesis, the prevalent network originates from Egypt, evident in the significant impact of al-Manār and its subsequent works on the creation of tafsir and Qur'ānic translations in Indonesia. Prior to Egypt's emergence as a popular choice for Indonesian Islamic education, the primary destination was Hijāz. Concerning tafsir, how does this Hijāz route work? This paper explores the interpretation of the Indonesian-Hijaz axis by analysing one of the tafsir works produced by interpreters of the Indonesian-Hijaz route, namely al-Ibrīz li Ma'rifati Tafsīr al-Qur'ān al-'Azīz by Bisri Mustofa. The inquiry at hand pertains to the intellectual network that influences Bisri Mustofa's tafsir work and the manner in which the Indonesian-Hijaz line of interpretation is manifested in al-Ibrīz. This article employs a historiographical approach, utilising a descriptive analytical method. The study concludes that Muhammad ʿAlawī al-Malikī's al-Qawā'id al-Asāsiyyah fi ʿUlum al-Qur'ān is a significant work in the field of ʿulum al-Qur'ān scholarship within the Indonesian-Hijaz axis, and al-Ibrīz is aligned with this book. Likewise, al-Ibrīz exhibits a closer affinity with the works of al-Bayḍāwī, Jalāl al-Dīn Al-Suyūṭī, and ʿAbd al-Raʾuf al-Sinkilī, who had already gained significant readership in Indonesia prior to the impact of al-Manār. This article demonstrates that the various channels through which scholars transmit their interpretations have an impact on the content of their tafsir

Maqāṣid al-Qurʾān Perspektif Ṭāhā Jābir al-ʿAlwānī dan Implikasinya bagi Kajian Tafsīr Maqāṣidī di Indonesia

    No full text
The examination of maqāṣid al-qur'ān serves as the foundation for the interpretation of Qur'anic verses that are directed towards the welfare and advantage of humanity.  During the classical era, mufasirs frequently interpreted the Qur'anic verses in a manner that aligned with their theological doctrines, rather than adhering to the universal intent of the revealed verses. In contemporary times, the utilisation of the maqāṣid al-qur'ān approach has become prevalent as a means to mitigate the issue of subjective interpretation in various products. The study conducted by Al-'Alwānī on maqāṣid al-qur'ān holds significant importance in uncovering the universal objectives embedded within the Qur'ānic verses that remain veiled within the text. The present study centres its attention on the subsequent problem formulation: What is the methodology employed by Ṭāhā Jābir Al-'Alwānī in the examination of maqāṣid al-qur'ān, and how does the maqāṣid al-qur'ān methodology developed by Al-'Alwānī find practical application in the interpretation of verses within the Qur'an? What are the implications of Al-'Alwānī's maqāṣid al-qur'ān method for the study of tafsīr maqāṣidi in Indonesia? This study employs a qualitative descriptive approach to conduct library research, aiming to provide a comprehensive description and analysis of the collected data. The findings of this study demonstrate that Al-'Alwānī's ideas are grounded in the al-manhaj al-qur'ānī paradigm, which aims to develop the concept of al-Maqāṣid al-Qur'āniyyah al-'Ulyā al-Ḥakimah. This concept encompasses three fundamental principles found in the Qur'an: al-tawḥīd, al-tazkiyah, and al-'umrān. From a practical standpoint, it is possible to situate al-Maqāṣid al-Qur'āniyyah al-'Ulyā al-Ḥākimah within various spheres of existence, encompassing but not limited to the realms of economics, politics, social dynamics, and other pertinent domains. By employing Al-'Alwānī's approach, which is grounded in the principles of al-tawḥīd, al-tazkiyyah, and al-'umrān, the objective of promoting the welfare of individuals can be achieved, encompassing the cultivation of religious moderation. The present study carries significant implications for the hermeneutical analysis of the Qur'an, specifically in relation to the application of maṣlahah (public interest) and the overarching universal intent of the verse, rather than focusing on the theological validity of the mufasir (Qur'anic commentator). The method proposed by Al-Alwānī also plays a significant role in the advancement of tafsīr maqāṣidī in Indonesia, a subject that has been extensively explored and expanded upon by Abdul Mustaqim

    Konsistensi Al-Wāḥidī (w. 465/1076) dalam Menggunakan Asbāb Al-Nuzūl : Analisis Kitab Al-Wasīṭ fī Tafsīr Al-Qur’ān Al-Majīd

The verses found in the Qur'an are not detached from their historical context, known as asbāb al-nuzūl, playing an essential role in the practice of interpreting the Qur'an. Known as a medieval commentator and the author of the book entitled Asbāb al-Nuzūl al-Qur’ān, al-Wāḥidī emerged as one of the critical scholars in examining and citing from the reasons for revelation of verses. This article attempts to elucidate the consistency of Al-Wāḥidī in the process of interpreting the Qur'an by focusing on one of his exegesis works, Al-Wasīṭ Fī Tafsīr Al-Qur’ān Al-Majīd. By employing the main principle of asbāb al-nuzūl as a tool for interpretation and historical tracing of the descent of Qur'anic verses, the author finds that in terms of the concept of asbāb al-nuzūl formulated by al-Wāḥidī, there is not much deviation from the main principle of asbāb al-nuzūl. However, regarding the use of asbāb al-nuzūl as an element in interpretation, al-Wāḥidī tends to be inconsistent in interpretations based on Asbāb al-Nuzūl al-Qur’an in his exegesis book, Al-Wasīṭ Fī Tafsīr Al-Qur’ān Al-Majīd.
