The Power of Buya: Pengajian Networks in Traditional Society
This research stems from the fact of weak Islamic insights among the community in Pulau Tengah, Kerinci, and simultaneously observes the crucial role of Buya (religious leaders) in addressing this issue. The aim of this study is to understand the formation and utilization of Buya’s authority in strengthening the community’s Islamic insights through a network of study groups. The research method used is qualitative with a descriptive approach. Data collection in this study employed observation, interviews, and documentation methods. The results show that the form of authority possessed by Buya that attracts people to learn about religious knowledge is partly due to their charisma and demeanor. In Pulau Tengah village, there are five study group networks: Riyadhus Shalihin led by Buya Sumarlin, Miftahul Jannah led by Buya Muksin, Uswatul led by Buya Hudri Hamzah, Qowaidul Iman led by Buya Sabbanuddin, and Biyadatul Hidayah led by Buya Ronaldi Asy’ari. Generally, these Buya do not have traditional or legal authority but rely on charismatic authority in carrying out their preaching activities
Ancient Manuscripts of Kerinci: Aksara Incung in the Course of History
Each region has numerous historical sites developed as a form of cultural heritage preservation, including Indonesia, which is home to various ancient manuscripts. One of the most significant ancient manuscripts is the Kerinci Manuscript, written in the Incung script. The Incung script was used by the Kerinci people to document spells, customary laws, and other important records. However, this script has largely been forgotten by the younger generation of Kerinci. This study aims to explore the history, functions, and development of the Kerinci Incung script. The research employs a qualitative historical method through literature review. The findings reveal that the Incung script has a long history and diverse functions, ranging from serving as a medium for writing legal codes and historical records to oral literature. The script was inscribed on various media such as buffalo horns, bamboo, tree bark, and paper. Although it is less known today, efforts to preserve it are ongoing, including through education and cultural events. This study underscores the importance of the Incung script as a cultural heritage that needs to be preserved and developed to enrich the cultural identity of the Kerinci community
Santri Punk: Identity Hybridization within the Pesantren Community
Pesantren, as religious educational institutions, play a crucial role in shaping Muslim intellectuals. However, the emergence of the “santri punk” phenomenon within pesantren indicates a new dynamic that challenges the traditional religious image of these institutions. This study aims to explore the motives behind the construction of the santri punk identity at Pantura Lamongan pesantren and to analyze the influence of identity status in this process. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through individual life history methods and interviews, then examined through Alfred Schutz’s phenomenological theory and James Marcia’s identity status concept. The findings reveal that the formation of santri punk is influenced by “because motives,” such as shock culture, difficulties in social interaction, and cultural encounters, as well as “in order to motives,” including the pursuit of solidarity, social identity, and self-actualization. This process is reinforced by identity crises experienced by santri aged 16–18 years, with a tendency toward identity achievement and identity moratorium statuses. External factors such as globalization, advancements in information technology, and the cultural characteristics of the Pantura region further accelerate the access to and adoption of punk culture within pesantren environments. These findings demonstrate that the santri punk identity represents a form of cultural hybridity within the context of pesantren’s social transformation

Bersiul Sebagai Bentuk Kekerasan Seksual: Nalar Sadd al-Żarī’ah Dalam Hukum Positif di Indonesia
Whistling, initially regarded as a harmless personal expression, has evolved over time to be considered a form of sexual violence in specific legal and interpretative contexts. Consequently, Indonesian law has incorporated this activity as one manifestation of sexual violence. This article aims to provide an analysis and elucidation of legislative regulations pertaining to sexual violence, which includes whistling as a form thereof, utilizing the sadd al-dzari’ah or preventive logic approach. Employing a document analysis methodology, the study focuses on Law Number 12 of 2022, Minister of Education and Culture Regulation Number 30 of 2021, and Minister of Religious Affairs Regulation Number 73 of 2022 as its study objects. The research reveals that the inclusion of whistling as a form of sexual violence in legislative regulations is substantiated not only by various social facts but also by the presence of preventive reasoning within sadd al-dzari’ah. This suggests that whistling is perceived to potentially lead to more serious offenses, both in terms of fostering a continuous inclination to engage in such behavior and escalating its frequency and intensity, as well as instigating a profound sense of intimidation and serious degradation for the victims
The School Teachers’ Creativity and Self-efficacy in Writing an Academic Text: A Rasch-Based Survey Analysis
The present study aimed to examine the academic writing creativity and self-efficacy of Indonesian school teachers. Under a survey design, a five-point Likert scale of Academic Writing Creativity and Self-Efficacy (ACSE) questionnaire was distributed to school teachers in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi, of whom 262 voluntarily completed it. Rasch analysis was conducted on the quantitative data, with the results showing that almost half of Indonesian school teachers possess a low level of academic writing creativity and self-efficacy (N = 112, or 48.7%), some with a moderate level (N = 88, or 38.3%), and a few with a high level (N = 30, or 13%). Although teachers were found to have a strong ability to seek feedback on their writing from their colleagues and to make decisions about whether to accept or reject it, they lacked creativity in their academic writing, particularly their skill to express original ideas using a wide range of words and expressions in a grammatically correct manner. Moreover, their competence in utilizing technology for writing resources and assistance, such as researching pertinent literature, referencing accurately, paraphrasing effectively, and addressing spelling and other language errors, was limited. A discussion of the findings was presented in the article, and recommendations were offered regarding further academic writing training and research
Teaching the Rule of Product using Nature Tourism Routes
A tourism route is a sequence of tourist attractions visited. Students are familiar with tour activities and often plan tourism routes to visit several tourist attractions. Students' experience and knowledge about tourism routes can be used as a context for teaching the rule of product. Therefore, this research aims to design a learning trajectory for the rule of product using the Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Education (PMRI) approach in the Kerinci nature tourism route context. The research method used is design research with a validation study type, which consists of three stages: preparation and design, teaching experiment, and retrospective analysis. The subjects involved in this research were 11 third-semester mathematics education students at a university in Jambi, Indonesia. The instruments include learning video recordings, student work results, field notes, and test sheets. The research results show that learning trajectories designed in the context of tourism routes can help students discover, understand, and use the rule of product in solving relevant mathematical problems. The learning tracjectory consists of four activities: making a list of Kerinci tourist attractions, determining the location of several tourist attractions on a sketch map, arranging tourist attractions in tourism routes, and solving problems regarding possible tourism routes. This research shows that the designed learning trajectory is vital in helping students discover and understand the rule of product and apply them to solving relevant problems
