    No full text
Climbing Perch (Anabas testudineus Bloch) is a freshwater fish that inhabits swamps, rivers, lakes, and other water bodies. Some communities have begun cultivating climbing perch but still lack information on breeding techniques, leading to reliance on wild-caught fry. This community service activity, conducted by the Fisheries Department of the University of Palangka Raya in collaboration with the Tabiku Village Government, was to provide training on climbing perch breeding. This initiative aimed to encourage the community to engage in climbing perch hatchery businesses and improve the quality of climbing perch fry. The method used in this community service program was a participatory approach to climbing perch breeding. This included socialization, theoretical sessions on hatchery techniques, and hands-on training in various breeding activities. These activities covered fish spawning techniques, pond preparation, broodstock selection, spawning process, feeding, and fry harvesting. Five pairs of broodstock were used with a male-to-female ratio of 3:1. As a result of this program, approximately 25.000 eggs were produced, with an 85% hatching rate. The fertilization rate of papuyu fish eggs was 78%, resulting in 16.575 larvae. During the rearing period, 1.320 fry measuring 3–5 cm were obtained using a 4x6 meter tarpaulin pond. To improve the survival rate of climbing perch fry, increasing the number of nursery ponds for better fry development is recommended

    No full text
Wood waste is the remains of wood parts no longer considered economically valuable in product processes. However, if wood waste products are made at different times and places, they will produce new economic value products. Waste wood pieces are currently not utilized optimally due to the lack of knowledge and insight into technology and the development of creativity in the community regarding the use of wood waste. Partners in PKM are the SUKAYU (Suka Karya Kayu) group, which has just started a business with limited wood products, namely, placing flower pots. The problem partners face is limited knowledge, skills, equipment, and capital, so they cannot develop product innovations based on the high selling value and artistic value of wood waste. The method used is training on making chairs, shoe racks, and flower pots using applicative methods, mentoring, and evaluating activities. Training program held on August 16, 2022. After the training, there was an increase in the partners' knowledge and skills about wood waste and its use as wood products, and the partners were able to make several wood products from the waste. The outputs of the Community Partnership Program activities are wood products (chairs, shoe racks, and flower pots), publications in The Banjarmasin Post Online, scientific articles, and activity videos on YouTube

Kenikir (Cosmos caudatus), often consumed as a vegetable in Southeast Asia, possesses therapeutic benefits for several diseases, including diabetes mellitus. However, there has been limited investigation of the aqueous extract of C. caudatus for this disease model. This study aimed to examine the glucose-lowering effect of C. caudatus aqueous extract in an alloxan-induced diabetes model in rats. Ultrasound-assisted extraction was performed to obtain an aqueous extract of C. caudatus leaves. Qualitative phytochemical screening was carried out to identify the presence of bioactive compounds. Male Wistar rats were allocated to the following experimental groups: non-diabetic, diabetic without treatment, and diabetic treated with glibenclamide or aqueous C. caudatus extract at concentrations of 25%, 50%, or 100%. Diabetes was induced by intraperitoneal injection of 150 mg/kg alloxan. Random blood glucose and body weight were monitored before (Day 0) and after treatment (Days 3 and 7). There was a trend of weight loss in diabetic rats compared to non-diabetic rats, though the difference was not statistically significant. After 7 days of treatment, there was a comparable decrease in the blood glucose of diabetic rats treated with 50% or 100% of aqueous C. caudatus extract and those treated with glibenclamide. Qualitative phytochemical screening indicated the presence of steroid, saponin, phenol, and flavonoid compounds. The total phenolic content was 38.48 mg GAE/g and IC50 DPPH antioxidant activity was 375.64 ppm. This study demonstrated that an aqueous extract of C. caudatus exhibits a blood glucose-lowering effect in an alloxan-induced diabetic rat model
