Optimal Sizing and Sitting of Distributed Generator to Improve Efficiency of Distribution System: A Comparative Analysis
Improvement in efficiency of distribution system by the placement of small-size generators (distributed generators), where the locations and ratings of DGs are obtained by any optimization algorithm, is now a major challenge for researches. This article presents an overview of different approaches (conventional, analytical and heuristic) for proper placement and sizing of distributed generators in distribution network. In this article, heuristic approach is applied to optimize the DG’s placement and results are compared with classical and analytical approaches. Comparative results are presented to show the effectiveness of the methodologies.
Raspberry Pi based Firewall & NIDS
In the present day and age, there are various factors that can make or break a promising startups, even the most ambitious ones. One of them is financial constraints. For example, a group of individuals come together and plan a startup and that too an IT. They are not sure if their plans will pass the test of times. It will be insensible on their part to invest in the world class tool for their organization which is yet to be settled. So they have to find the cheaper and efficient ways to make their ends meet. So the start begins with filtering and monitoring the traffic. When we think of filtering, we think of the ways in which it can be done. The wall in terms of firewall is the best possible solution. BUT we can end up purchasing a firewall which is surplus to the requirement. By this we mean that the financial limits will be stressed for no reason. Also, the network traffic is required to be monitoring passively or real-time with the tools that are available in the market. Open source softwares like Suricata and Snort are available in the market. But the question remains. What can be the best possible interface for applying all the above mentioned facilities all at once? The current constraints like heat generation, power requirement, and space as well as cost requirements compelled us to look beyond a regular PC setup and design a solution which can be used for small scale purpose, adaptable to the requirements which caters to the need of any startup which is usually low on funds. So as Raspberry Pi ticks all the above requirements, this project explores various possibilities. The Raspberry Pi is a single board computer developed by Raspberry Pi foundation. The device primarily uses Linux kernel based operating system. The core part of the project is to design the monitoring system which will also provide functionalities of both Intrusion Detection as well as Intrusion Prevention
Traceability in Smart Card Applications using Doors
Present article discusses about the traceability in smart cards applications using DOORS. Traceability can be defined as the ability to describe and follow the life of a requirement, in both a forward and backward direction, i.e., from its origins, through its development and specification, to its subsequent deployment and use, and through periods of on-going refinement and iteration in any of these phases.DOORS lets user link together related information. User can follow the links by clicking on them. For example, user can link a user requirement to the design features that fulfill that requirement. And user can link the design features to the tests that are carried out to verify the design features. Requirements traceability refers to the ability to define, capture and follow the traces left by requirements on other elements of the software development environment and the trace left by those elements on requirements
Effects of Temperature and Time of Ion-Exchange on the Mechanical Behavior of Chemically Toughened Soda-Lime Glass
The effect of immersion time and heating temperature on the mechanical properties of chemically toughened glass was examined. The glass samples of 100×100×20 mm were first immersed in 2 M of NaNO3 salt solution at 450 °C for 4 hr to enrich the surface of glass samples with sodium ions then dipped in 2 M KNO3 solution each at different temperature and time of immersion. Mechanical tests were performed on the samples. The results obtained show that sample C has the highest value of hardness 58.3 HRC while samples A, B, and D also display a better hardness value of 45.7, 57.5, and 55.2 HRC respectively compared with un-treated sample with hardness 40.9 HRC. The impact test also shows that sample C has the highest impact strength of 1.25 KJ/m; sample B has the least impact strength of 0.19 KJ/m while the untreated glass has 0.37 KJ/m. The microstructure examination shows that samples B and C display a structure in resemblance with lamella structure displayed by most composites while samples C and D display the highest flexural strength of 144 and 135.5 MPa respectively.
Literature Survey on Digital Forensics and Anti - Forensics
Forensics or Forensic science is an arena of science that deals with investigation of any unlawful activity and to present it as evidence in court of law. Increased use of digital devices, especially computers, makes man's life easy but also vulnerable. Modern forms of crime, with either computer as an instrument or computer as the target, broadly called the computer crimes or cyber crimes are increasing in number and severity. To combat cyber crime, an active topic of research called Digital forensics came into play. The goal of digital forensics is to answer the five questions - Why? Who? Where? When? and How? related to the crime committed. This emerging field focuses on the tools and techniques that deal with identifying, preserving, extracting and documenting the evidence. With the growth in knowledge of collecting evidence, knowledge of destroying data and metadata required to create evidence also grew. Anti-forensic or counter forensic study deals with the study of techniques and tools to confound an investigator. The proponents for privacy measure support anti-forensics. It talks about hiding or destroying the data and the metadata. On the whole it makes the process of acquiring evidence as complex as possible.Tools that help users perform anti-forensics are called anti-forensic tools. Yet, there could be files and track evidences, accessed by hackers which could bring the activities of the user to limelight. Hence, analysis of these anti forensic tools comes with greater importance. Hence, the analysis of the tools is proposed
Design and Implementation of Adaptive Control Braking System using LabVIEW for Passenger Comfort through its Smart Sensing and Controlled Braking
An unaccustomed driver not always has a sound judgment of the surrounding traffic and frequently depresses the brake pedal, causing a poor, jerky drive. Hence, now a day in high end cars to provide comfort to passengers while applying sudden brakes without jerks and also in time to avoid collision the Adaptive Control Braking System is used. The main objective of this research study is to automatically monitor the braking force required to maximize the comfort during braking and without collision by implementing Adaptive Control Braking System using LabVIEW by taking different real time inputs, analyze them such that to get a maximum comfort and sending signals to the actuators as outputs. This system aids the braking mechanism to augment passenger comfort through its smart sensing and controlled braking.
"A Technological Survey on Different Navigation Algorithms for Mobile Cleaning Robots" Cleaning Robots
In this article, a small robot is used whose navigation is based on the Simple switch sensors, which are implemented on left and right side of the robot bumper. If left sensor is on and right sensor is off the obstacle is in the left of robot and vice versa. The robot sweeps with the help of brush and uses bumper which soften up the collision with the obstacle. Two brushes are attached under the bumper to collect obstacles nearby dirt
Transmission Network Expansion Planning
Transmission network plays a key role in an electricity market. In addition to linking generators and loads, transmission network is also responsible for increasing competition, and helps to pick up the most efficient generators to supply loads. As electricity consumption grows, new transmission lines are needed to provide alternative paths for power transfer from generators to load centers for continuous supply. Only a proper transmission system can ensure an efficient power market. Transmission capacity shortage may result in serious consequences such as blackout, market manipulation, increase of congestion cost, etc. This has led to increase in the role of the transmission network expansion planning.Transmission expansion planning (TEP) is an important part of power system planning. Its task is to determine an optimal network configuration according to load growth. The basic principle of TEP is minimizing the network construction and operational cost, satisfying the requirement of delivering electric power safely and reliably to load centers. The formulation used in the present work is a mixed-integer nonlinear programming problem in which the objective function is to minimize the total cost consisting of investment cost, load curtailment cost and generation cost. TEP problem is solved by interior-point direct algorithm
Digital Image Fundamentals: An Image Created Through the Process of Digitization
Digitization is the process through which we transform the formats or objects that one can see or hear like: text, image or sound from analog media, into electronic data that we can save, organize, retrieve, and restore through electronic devices into perceptible surrogates of the original works. Of the vast number of digital assets that are being created, still images, texts, motion pictures, and sound recordings predominate. A digital image, then, is one that has been created through the process of digitization
Research Issues in Ad-Hoc Distributed Databases
Ad-hoc networks are a key in the evolution of wireless networks. Ad-hoc networks are typically composed of equal nodes, which communicate over wireless links without any central control. Ad-hoc wireless networks inherit the traditional problems of wireless and mobile communications, such as bandwidth optimization, power control and transmission quality enhancement. In addition, the multi-hop nature and the lack of fixed infrastructure bring new research problemssuch as configuration advertising, discovery and maintenance, as well as ad-hoc addressing and self-routing. This term article focuses on the state of the art in mobile ad-hoc networks issue related to mobile ad hoc networ
