Testing the Waters: Fostering Conversation Skills with ChatGPT
This paper examines the application of ChatGPT as a tool for enhancing students’ English onversation skills in a classroom setting. To begin this process, I asked first-year students at a Japanese university to write original paragraphs on simple topics. Students transformed these into two-person dialogues at a CEFR B1 level using ChatGPT. These dialogues offered students opportunities for vocabulary acquisition, conversational practice, and peer interaction. After completing three cycles of this activity, students completed a survey. Results suggest that, with some caveats, they regard ChatGPT as a useful tool for enhancing language skills.departmental bulletin pape
The Impact of the Formulation of “Childcare Quality Guidelines” on Improving the Quality of Childcare —Verification of the Learning of Childcare Providers in the Formulation Process—
2024年度、日野市保育課職員(小野ら3名)を事務局とし、本学教員(井口)が委員長となり、日野市内の公私立全認可保育所らと協同で「日野市保育の質ガイドライン」を策定した。このガイドラインでは、日野市内44の全認可保育所から実践事例を収集し、日野市内の全保育施設が「子ども主体の保育」「不適切な保育の未然防止」という同じ方向性をもち保育の質向上を図ることを目指している。
本研究においては、ガイドラインの策定過程に着目した。その結果をふまえ、保育実践の質向上のために有効なガイドライン策定の在り方を提案することを目的とする。departmental bulletin pape
Aspiration and Anxiety for Interpersonal Relationships in Remote Class during the COVID-19 Pandemic —For Reduction of Students' Stress—
コロナ禍において本格導入された遠隔授業では、対面授業と比較して対人関係が持ちにくい傾向にあり、この点が学生のストレスを高めていた可能性がある。本研究では遠隔授業における対人交流に注目し、Zoomによる授業での対人交流が受講生にどう受け止められており、そこにどのような個人差があるか、特に授業形態の好みとの関連を中心に検討した。その結果、授業形態の好み(対面授業が好きかZoom授業が好きか)によって、クラスメートとのコミュニケーションへの希求、顔出しへの意向に違いがあることが明らかになった。以上より、遠隔授業における対人交流は必ずしもすべての学生にとって快適とは限らず、むしろ不安やストレスを感じる学生もいる可能性があることが示された。よって、ストレスの少ない遠隔授業を実施するには、学習者の個性に合わせた柔軟な授業設計、特に対人交流について複数の選択肢を提供する工夫が必要である。departmental bulletin pape
Enhancing Self-Efficacy in English Presentation Skills Via AI-Based Feedback: A Longitudinal Study of Japanese University Students
This study examined the effectiveness of a feedback system based on artificial intelligence (AI) in improving Japanese university students’ English presentation skills and self-efficacy. A total of 21 students participated in a 14-week asynchronous course integrating a feedback system to assess aspects of presentations such as clarity and body language. The participants were categorized into low and high self-efficacy groups based on their pre-test results on the self-efficacy questionnaire. Findings from the analysis of covariance revealed significant improvements in the self-efficacy scores of the low self efficacy group. The participants’ qualitative feedback indicated that the AI feedback increased their self-awareness, motivation, and confidence. This study suggests that AIbased feedback has the potential to be an effective tool for enhancing self-efficacy, especially among students with low confidence. However, the system must be refined further to facilitate the assessment of advanced presentation skills.departmental bulletin pape
