departmental bulletin pape
Kitami Girls’ School and Utako Shimoda・Yoshichika Inagaki
Utako Shimoda established the Imperial Women’s Association in November 1898, and the following year, in May 1899, she established the Girls’ Practical School attached to the Imperial Women’s Association and the Girls’ Crafts School. Thereafter, she devoted her life to educating ordinary girls and was involved in the establishment of many schools.
Immediately after the establishment of the Imperial Women’s Association, she campaigned to explain its significance in the context of the importance of women’s education. We also conducted an inspection for this purpose. The seeds Shimoda planted yielded sympathizers to that idea. Thanks to their support, the project quickly bore fruit in the form of the Niigata Branch.
It subsequently developed into the creation of respective affiliated schools: the Niigata Girls’Crafts School and the Hokuetsu Girls’ School.
Additionally, the main school is Junshin Girls’ School (chairman/principal), established in 1918. Ami Girls’ Practical School (2nd generation principal) was established in 1919, and Meitoku Girls’ School was established (by the principal) in 1921.
One of these schools is the Kitami Girls’ School. Until recently, few details were known about the Kitami Girls’ School. Hence, this paper focuses on discussing the Kitami Girls’ School, which existed in the country for a short time (in present-day Abashiri City).
Yoshichika Inagaki founded the Kitami Girls’ School in 1910, on what is now Kitamicho Minami-dori, Abashiri City. Shin opened it as a temporary school, and the new school was opened in Katsuragaoka, Abashiri City, in 1911.
A two-story wooden building with a dormitory was constructed and relocated. As a women’s school for elementary school graduates and above, it was extremely significant as the first girls’school in the Abashiri jurisdiction to provide education for girls. However, the school was
closed in 1919.
To raise funds to support this establishment, Inagaki ran the Kaikosha Ranch, and Tokyo’s Utako Shimoda, the principal of Jissen Girls’ School, said that the purpose was to create basic assets for the school (Abashiri Shimbun, etc.). Utako Shimoda was invited to the Hokkaido Education Association’s 14th Summer Seminar. On August 5, 1901, he visited Sapporo and held a home at Sapporo Girls’ General Elementary School. He lectured on politics. The content of the lectures in this summer seminar will be the same.
In 2010, the Hokkaido Educational Association published it as Utako Shimoda’s Lectures on Home Economics. At that time, Shimoda’s lecture in Hokkaido was so popular that around 500 people attended.
It seems that the establishment of a girls’ school was planned under such circumstances, but the establishment of “Kitami Girls’ School”
Following the school’s history from establishment to closure demonstrates how Utako Shimoda in particular grew in Hokkaido.
We cannot shed any light on whether they were trying to promote women’s education. That’s what I’m thinking.departmental bulletin pape
Development for a novel yogurt product with a unique texture
The market for yogurt as a “healthy food” in Japan is expanding. Nevertheless, almost all yogurt products are in a chilled sol form, necessitating spoons for consumption. From a marketing perspective, new concepts to increase consumption, such as yogurt that can be picked up with the fingers and eaten without a spoon, may be useful. Five panel members aged between 20 and 50 years evaluated nine consumer brands of yogurt using sensory tests. This was repeated with eight panel members in their 20s. Among them, Greek yogurt was selected as the benchmark. Using Greek yogurt as a starter Then, four culture, pre-trial fermentation tests were performed to examine the milk contents, gelling agent, and drying method. Four starter strains of lactic acid bacteria were examined for commercial use, and two strains (Y8/Y9) that provided a good acidity and sweetness balance were selected. Three prototypes were prepared as cylinders shape of 1.3 cm in height, and their physical properties were measured. Compared with Greek yogurt, the stress of the prototypes was approximately 40–47-fold harder. In the sensory test, the eight participants indicate that the prototype using Y9 had the highest overall judgement. We succeeded in producing a half-solid gel-type yogurt; however, the prototypes had a slightly cheese-like flavor. Further improvements in taste are required before the product can be launched in the market.departmental bulletin pape
Consideration of Sustainable Regional Collaboration Projects 〜Focusing on Fostering Social Capital 〜
This paper focuses on the concept of social capital and examines the significance of community-based project education to gain insights into sustainable regional development and community-based collaborative activities by students. After understanding the meanings of “individual assets” and “collective assets” as the basic concepts of social capital, we examined the relations of social capital and regional cooperation activities from three perspectives: “relevant population,” “intergenerational inheritance,” and “social education.” In addition, we considered the significance of community collaboration project activities from the perspective of social capital formation by selecting practical examples of students’ efforts to revitalize local communities.
In conclusion, the significance and role of community-based project education in fostering social capital are 1) the acquisition of awareness as an agent of regional revitalization, 2) the possibility of creating a relationship of trust with local people and creating local self-reliance, 3) the formation of a community that hopes for the sustainable survival of the local area, and 4) the value of being the “parent generation” that creates an era.departmental bulletin pape
