Get PDFDer Beitrag enthält das Abstract ausschließlich in französischer und englischer Sprache.Tokarczuk’s stance on the natural world seems to have much in common with that of Yourcenar, who is now widely recognised as an avant-garde environmentalist writer. In comparing the two writers, I seek to focus on the issue of animal suffering, one of the leitmotifs in their work. I want to deepen this topic by considering two novels of the authors, in particular, Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead and An Obscure Man. I shall examine these works in the light of the philosophy of deep ecology and also by using the tools of ecopoetics.L’attitude de Tokarczuk vis-à-vis du monde naturel semble avoir beaucoup en commun avec celle de Yourcenar, reconnue maintenant en tant qu’écrivaine écologiste d’avant-garde. Dans une étude comparative, je désire me concentrer sur la question de la souffrance animale, un des leitmotive de leur travail. Obraz Węgier i prezydencji węgierskiej w Radzie Unii Europejskiej (1 VII 2024 – 31 XII 2024) na łamach hiszpańskiego dziennika „ABC”
Get PDFThe aim of this article is to assess the extent to which the Hungarian Presidency, held by Budapest during the second half of 2024, contributed to increased interest in the country from Spain, one of the largest countries in the European Union. The theoretical inspiration for this approach is Nicolas Spykman’s Rimland theory, with its central thesis of the unique importance of spatial edges in relation to geographical centers. The choice of Spain as a point of reference for Hungary is further supported by historical arguments and pragmatic considerations. This analysis focuses on three aspects: 1/ Hungary and European affairs; 2/ Hungary and the foreign policy of the European Union; and 3/ The overall image of Hungary in “ABC” during its Presidency of the Council of the EU. The quantitative and qualitative analysis of the materials presented by the Spaniards in the “ABC” daily leads to the conclusion that the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union significantly contributed to the Spanish interest in this Danube country.Celem artykułu jest dokonanie oceny, na ile prezydencja węgierska, sprawowana przez Budapeszt w okresie drugiego półrocza 2024 roku przyczyniła się do zwiększenia zainteresowania tym krajem ze strony Hiszpanii, jednego z największych państw Unii Europejskiej. Teoretyczną inspiracją dla ujęcia tematu pozostaje teoria Rimlandu Nicolasa Spykmana z jej naczelną tezą o wyjątkowym znaczeniu przestrzennych obrzeży w stosunku do geograficznych centrów. Wybór Hiszpanii jako punktu odniesienie dla Węgier posiada dodatkowo swoje umocowanie w argumentacji historycznej i przesłankach pragmatycznych. Przedmiotowa analiza koncentruje się na trzech aspektach: 1/ Węgry a problematyka europejska. 2/ Węgry a polityka zagraniczna Unii Europejskiej oraz 3/ Ogólny wizerunek Węgier na łamach „ABC” w okresie sprawowania prezydencji w Radzie UE. Get PDFThe article analyzes students’ statements (creative writing) on Kazimierz Przerwa-Tetmajer’s poem In the Bay of Naples and the blue colour associated with the interpretation of this work (teenagers, “going beyond” the philological analysis and interpretation of the text, write an essay “My blue world”). The pupils’ reception of Przerwa-Tetmajer’s poetic work and the children’s essays making creative use of fantasy worlds, filtered through their individual reception of the “blue world” from the poem by the Young Poland poet, show the pupils’ reading engagement and draw attention to the aesthetic perspective of perception. They also testify to the fact that imaginary worlds and fantasy as a literary convention (in the case of teenagers’ essays) allow for the use of imagination and emotions, for “going beyond the text”, for a kind of escapism on the part of the reader/viewer, but also for the reflection of teenagers’ wishes, dreams and desires, and for reaching deeper meanings of the work analyzed in class.W artykule analizujemy wypowiedzi uczniów (twórcze pisanie) na temat wiersza Kazimierza Przerwy-Tetmajera W Zatoce Neapolitańskiej i koloru niebieskiego związanego z interpretacją tego utworu (nastolatki, „wychodząc” poza filologiczną analizę i interpretację tekstu, piszą esej na temat „Mój niebieski świat”). Uczniowska recepcja utworu poetyckiego Przerwy-Tetmajera i dziecięce eseje twórczo wykorzystujące światy fantazji, przefiltrowane przez indywidualny odbiór „błękitnego świata” z wiersza młodopolskiego poety, pokazują zaangażowanie czytelnicze uczniów i zwracają uwagę na estetyczną perspektywę odbioru. Get PDFThe subject of the article is the analysis of selected literary works for young recipients in terms of their usefulness in building empathetic attitudes and behaviors. An important role in the context of these considerations is played by the category of the Other, the Stranger, which may be associated with both refugees and people whose lives are marked by strong experiences not connected with escaping from their own country. Thanks to the tools provided by multicultural pedagogy and empathic reading, it is possible to notice how much appropriately selected literature and the literature present in the process readings adult intermediary influence, through the emotional and cognitive aspects, as well as under the influence of psychological processes such as mimicry or role-taking, on the empathy and pro-social attitudes in young people.Przedmiotem artykułu jest analiza wybranych utworów literackich dla młodego odbiorcy pod kątem ich przydatności w budowaniu postaw i zachowań empatycznych. Istotną rolę w kontekście niniejszych rozważań stanowi kategoria Innego, Obcego, która może być związana zarówno z uchodźcami, jak i z osobami, których życie jest naznaczone silnymi przeżyciami niepołączonymi z ucieczką z własnego kraju. Get PDFGrief autobiography is a form of storytelling where the narrator tells personal stories of hurt and loss. Art-based research is used to explore the author’s personal grief and how it is implicated in the grief of @GhenghisKhan01 and that of other netizens. This article examines @GhenghisKhan01’s tweets about grief as an intersection of social media grief storytelling and therapy as referential to the author’s personal loss. This study analyses @GhenghisKhan01’s autobiographical tweets of 19 March 2022, about the death of his father and other responses to similar autobiographical tweets that others tweeted under his, forming a thematic thread of responses to grief and loss that has 4,355 retweets, 837 quotes, 13.7k likes, which represent the content of participatory grief autobiographical narratives. This study accounts for how the researcher is implicated in this grief. The study examines the style and functions of Twitter grief storytelling from a referential point of view. This study conclude that autobiographical grief narratives shared on social media as posted by @Ghenghiskhan01, serves as a medium for both personal emotional expression and collective mourning.Autobiografia żałoby to forma narracji, w której narrator opowiada osobiste historie o bólu i stracie. Voices of Nature: Narrative Diversity and Ecological Awareness in Contemporary Canadian Short Stories
Get PDFThis article argues that three voice strategies in contemporary Canadian eco-stories—collective we-narration (Gartner), figural animal focalization (Bone), and omniscience inflected by oral address (Maracle)—activate distinct pathways of narrative empathy (attention re-calibration, perspective-switching, metaphorical reframing). Bridging ecocriticism and narrative theory, I show how these forms redistribute agency to nonhuman actants while exposing the affordances and risks of anthropomorphism. Close readings demonstrate that Gartner’s satirical collective voice performs de-anthropocentrization, Bone’s alternating figuration stages cross-species identification within unequal power regimes, and Maracle’s you-address and cyclical temporality enact relational resurgence. I conclude by outlining how such voice-driven designs move readers from elegiac “environmental loss” toward pedagogies of care and repair
Teaching English to Primary Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Case Study
Get PDFNowadays, the identification of learners with special needs is proliferating worldwide. One of these is the increasing prevalence of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) among children. The study’s primary goal was to investigate the major challenges and obstacles that foreign language teachers face when teaching English to gifted language ASD students, as well as effective teaching practices that can be adapted to address the psychosocial and intellectual needs of autistic learners in English lessons. The research material was collected through a case study conducted on an English teacher and a gifted ASD English learner participating in an individual teaching program of English at a selected primary school in Poland. The findings of the study reveal that teaching itself is extremely multi-faceted, with numerous critical tasks and challenges that teachers must face. However, in the case of students with special needs, teachers’ roles become even more important and cannot be underestimated. The study outcome can serve as a key factor in providing remedies for teaching English, particularly to talented students with ASD.
Westminster on the late Queen – metaphor as a discourse vehicle in condolence debates after Queen Elizabeth II’s death
Get PDFThis paper investigates the patterns of discourse present in the record of condolence debates in Houses of the Parliament of the United Kingdom after the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Specifically, two research questions were examined. The study aims to prove specific patterns related to the expression of feelings caused by the Queen’s death, as well as those related to metaphors illustrating her. The study is conducted on the corpus of 249,882 tokens of written records of over 20 hours of speeches delivered in the British Parliament, subdivided into subcorpora for either House. The analysis employs the methodology of corpus-assisted discourse studies (CADS), based mostly on Baker (2023) and includes the tools of word frequency lists, collocation search, and concordances. The resulting concordance lines were interpreted using conceptual metaphor theory (Lakoff and Johnson 2011). The analysis proved that the discussion strategies of the speeches could be organised into three distinct categories. Across the lines of political divisions, the Queen was depicted as a figure to preserves the stability of the nation, an illustrious guide for all her subjects, particularly those in power, and finally a renowned example of Britain around the world and for all Britons. By employing those themes, the late Queen was presented as both a relatable figure and an extraordinary leader, evoking positive associations and setting her as an example to be follow both by the politicians and the electorate

Get PDFThe article analyzes the significance of descriptive assessment, which – when combined with percentage-based records in the electronic gradebook – can have a substantial impact on the well-being of students aged 6–9. During this crucial early school period, children undergo rapid cognitive, emotional, and social development, which necessitates a flexible approach to both teaching and assessment. Traditional methods based solely on numerical grades often fall short of expectations and may lead to decreased motivation and emotional difficulties. Descriptive assessment, enriched with concrete percentage data, enables a more detailed and equitable evaluation of student achievements. This, in turn, supports the development of a positive attitude toward learning, enhances the sense of agency, and encourages active engagement in the educational process. Such an approach allows teachers to closely monitor students’ progress and adapt their teaching strategies to meet specific individual needs. The electronic gradebook not only facilitates communication between teachers and parents but also becomes a key tool in the educational process, fostering collaborative efforts to support the child’s development. The article presents both the advantages – such as increased transparency and accessibility of information – and the challenges that may arise during implementation, including the need for teacher training, time constraints, and concerns related to the protection of students’ personal data. Furthermore, reflections drawn from the practical experience of an early education teacher offer valuable insights into how modern digital tools can effectively support student development by enabling diverse and meaningful learning opportunities.W artykule zanalizowano znaczenie oceniania opisowego, które w połączeniu z procentowym zapisem w dzienniku elektronicznym może znacząco wpłynąć na dobrostan uczniów w wieku 6–9 lat. Tradycyjne metody, oparte wyłącznie na liczbowych ocenach, często nie spełniają oczekiwań i mogą prowadzić do obniżenia motywacji oraz problemów emocjonalnych.
