The cooperation between Poland and Sweden currently has not only a historical dimension, but is above all a pragmatic necessity related to ensuring security. Get PDFStarting from the discoveries of social neuroscience and the principles of Polish language teaching, the author proposes a critical discussion of Annie Murphy Paul’s The Extended Mind: The Power of Thinking Outside the Brain (2021). She presents the concept of the “extended mind”, i.e. the specificity of thinking based on the senses, the environment, and other people. The conclusions aim to expand the concept to include genetic determinants and propose a reference to the principles of Polish language teaching. This phenomenon, often underestimated, has profound consequences on the mental, physical, and social health of young people. The article provides an analysis of school bullying in France, examining its prevalence, the consequences for students, and the intervention strategies implemented to fight against this scourge. From this micro-research, it is evident that the implementation of effective intervention strategies against school bullying is crucial to prevent severe psychological disorders, such as anxiety and depression, which affect victims. Education, awareness, and the active involvement of all school stakeholders are essential to create a safe and respectful environment for every student.Le harcèlement scolaire est un phénomène préoccupant qui touche un nombre significatif d’élèves en France. Ce phénomène, souvent sous-estimé, a des conséquences profondes sur la santé mentale, physique et sociale des jeunes. Ce texte propose une analyse du harcèlement à l’école en France, en examinant sa prévalence, ses conséquences sur les élèves et les stratégies d’intervention mises en place pour lutter contre ce fléau. Potencjalne konflikty przestrzenne w obszarze Kazimierskiego Parku Krajobrazowego
Get PDFSpatial conflicts result from a lack of understanding between various interest groups. In the Kazimierz Landscape Park, conflicts take on particular significance, as they concern not only economic and social development but also nature conservation and biodiversity preservation. This article aims to present selected spatial conflicts within the Kazimierz Landscape Park. The causes of these conflicts and their impact on the natural and cultural environment were identified. The research utilized a critical analysis of the relevant literature, planning documents, cartographic materials, and statistical data from 2012–2022, as well as a case study. Spatial conflicts in the Kazimierz Landscape Park can be divided into conflicts related to the development of tourism infrastructure without considering natural constraints, agricultural activity, and the expansion of residential development in the immediate vicinity of protected areas. Tourism often causes degradation of the natural environment through increased tourist traffic. Inappropriate agricultural activity negatively impacts biodiversity and water quality. The expansion of residential and commercial development leads to the fragmentation and degradation of natural habitats. In the context of the Kazimierz Landscape Park, it is essential to find a balance between the protection of valuable natural areas and economic and social development. Achieving this goal requires understanding local specifics, engaging various stakeholders, and utilizing spatial planning tools to eliminate conflicts. As the examples of the municipalities of Kazimierz Dolny, Janowiec, and Wąwolnica demonstrate, despite high coverage by local plans, spatial conflicts have not been eliminated. Local planning documents are not always consistent with nature conservation objectives and do not prevent the escalation of conflicts. The study emphasizes the need for better integration of spatial policy with conservation measures and the need to actively engage local communities and environmental protection institutions in the spatial planning process.Konflikty przestrzenne są skutkiem braku porozumienia różnych grup interesu. W Kazimierskim Parku Krajobrazowym nabierają szczególnego znaczenia, ponieważ dotyczą nie tylko rozwoju gospodarczego czy społecznego, lecz także ochrony przyrody i zachowania bioróżnorodności. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie wybranych konfliktów przestrzennych na obszarze Kazimierskiego Parku Krajobrazowego. Zidentyfikowano przyczyny konfliktów oraz ich wpływ na środowisko przyrodnicze i kulturowe. W badaniach wykorzystano krytyczną analizę literatury problemowej, dokumentów planistycznych, materiałów kartograficznych i danych statystycznych z lat 2012–2022 oraz studium przypadku. Konflikty przestrzenne w Kazimierskim Parku Krajobrazowym można podzielić na konflikty związane z rozwojem infrastruktury turystycznej bez uwzględniania ograniczeń przyrodniczych, z działalnością rolniczą oraz z ekspansją zabudowy mieszkaniowej w bezpośrednim sąsiedztwie obszarów chronionych. Turystyka często powoduje degradację środowiska przyrodniczego poprzez zwiększony ruch turystyczny. Nieprawidłowa działalność rolnicza wpływa negatywnie na bioróżnorodność i jakość wód. Ekspansja zabudowy mieszkaniowej i gospodarczej prowadzi do fragmentacji i degradacji siedlisk przyrodniczych. W kontekście Kazimierskiego Parku Krajobrazowego konieczne jest znalezienie równowagi między ochroną obszarów cennych przyrodniczo a rozwojem gospodarczym i społecznym. Realizacja tego celu wymaga zrozumienia specyfiki lokalnej, zaangażowania różnych interesariuszy oraz zastosowania narzędzi planowania przestrzennego w eliminacji konfliktów. Jak pokazuje przykład trzech gmin: Kazimierza Dolnego, Janowca i Wąwolnicy, pomimo wysokiego pokrycia planami miejscowymi nie udało się wyeliminować konfliktów przestrzennych. Lokalne dokumenty planistyczne nie zawsze są spójne z celami ochrony przyrody i nie zapobiegają nasilaniu konfliktów. Ausgehend von Lawrence Barsalous Frame-Theorie werden drei Thesen formuliert und begründet: Erstens liegt der Schlüssel zur Analyse von Emotionskonzepten in der Kontextualisierung der Emotionswörter, die diese Konzepte repräsentieren. Zweitens eignet sich der Frame-Ansatz zur Entschlüsselung von Emotionskonzepten aus Kontexten, jedoch stellen sich hierbei methodische Herausforderungen. Drittens können diese durch korpuslinguistische Verfahren überwunden werden.This study develops a theoretical and methodological foundation for applying frame theory to the analysis of emotion concepts. Based on Lawrence Barsalou’s frame theory, three theses are formulated and justified: First, the key to analyzing emotion concepts lies in the contextualization of the emotion words that represent these concepts. Second, the frame approach is suitable for decoding emotion concepts from context, but it poses methodological challenges. Third, these challenges can be addressed through corpus-linguistic methods.Niniejsze badanie opracowuje teoretyczno-metodyczne podstawy zastosowania teorii ram (frame theory) do analizy konceptów emocji. ‘Your Kind Ain’t Welcome Here’: The Boundaries of Human, Post-human and Subhuman in the Fallout Video Game Franchise and Television Series
Get PDFScience fiction has long grappled with the question of what it means to be human, evident in the is cross-media fascination with both establishing and deconstructing the line between what is human and what is not in worlds where technology has allowed the creation of ‘posthumans’. However, as much as this question extends forward to the world of androids, cyborgs and robots, so too does it reach back to the realm of the monstrous, the degenerated human, or the ‘subhuman’. The Fallout series (1997-present) attempts to tackle this question head on in both directions, itself now a cross-media franchise that spans both video games and television. Incorporating both the ‘post-human’ and the ‘subhuman’ in their ‘synths’ (technologically advanced androids) and ‘ghouls’ (irradiated humans that slowly turn into what are essentially zombies) respectively, Fallout attempts to show that the line between what is human and what is not is not so easily drawn. Drawing on critical posthumanist theory alongside US American cultural theory this article analyses the portrayal of (and discrimination against) sub- and post- human characters in the Fallout series and how this can have broader implication in contemporary media when deconstructing the concept of ‘human’
Liminality and Existentialism in Tennessee Williams’s Clothes for a Summer Hotel
Get PDFClothes for a Summer Hotel (1983) stands as a prominent example of Tennessee Williams’s existentialist outlook and his experimentations with dramatic form. Subtitled as a “ghost play,” Clothes for a Summer Hotel depicts a fictional meeting of American authors F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald in the afterlife, through a temporally and spatially nonlinear narrative, where the characters revisit moments from their past in order to resolve the questions that have gradually doomed their relationship. Using the framework of Sartre’s theatre of situations and Foucault’s notion of heterotopia, this paper aims to add a novel perspective to the existing scholarship on this Williams play, but, most importantly, to suggest a reconciliation between its form and content, as opposed to the dissonance argued in the play’s early reviews. Starting with an overview of Williams’s existentialist approach and the prevalent criticism on the play, this paper focuses on its dramatic form through an examination of the depictions of time and space. This is followed by an analysis of its thematic content, in particular the existentialist notions of bad faith (mauvaise foi) and the Other, to finally conclude with an argument on the correlation of the play’s form and content
