Approach from Raw Materials of Our Solar System: Methodology for Investigating the First 0.5 Billion Years of the Earth’s Birth
Iʼm concerned with the first 0.5 billion years of the Earthʼs birth. The methodology of its period is discussed in this paper. The first 0.5 billion years of the Earth should be determined to develop into the following period. The origin of the elements which the solar system formed, and homogenous “solar system blend” of almost elements during formation of the solar system were revealed. Existence of presolar grains is defined by detection of isotope anomaly in the meteorite. It reveals that presolar grains are the carrier grains of the anomaly. They represented various origins derived from the nucleosynthesis not only in the former star but also in AGB stars and supernovae.Bulletin論文Articledepartmental bulletin pape
The Video-referenced Infant Rating System for Autism(VIRSA)and its possible application to Japanese situation ─ A preliminary questionnaire to professionals ─
When considering setting up a system for early detection of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and support for the patients, there are high expectations in Japan as well for the Video-referenced Infant Rating System for Autism (VIRSA), an application developed by Young et al.( 2020), due to its high sensitivity and ease of use. However, it is necessary to examine in advance the feasibility and challenges of using it in Japan, as it will require an enormous amount of preparation and clinical studies to be conducted in order to develop a Japanese version of VIRSA. Thus, this study examined its feasibility and issues in Japan by conducting preliminary questionnaires on VIRSA aimed at those who support people with developmental disabilities in Japan. The results found that although they f ind VIRSA appealing as it is not easily influenced by factors such as infants’ shyness and parents’ awareness, and is easy to operate, there are issues to consider, including cultural differences, the ways to adopt it, and a support system after use, before it can be accepted as a screening tool.Bulletin論文Articledepartmental bulletin pape

Results of the FD/SD Questionnaire on Study and Employment Support for University Students with Developmental Disabilities
The ‘FY2021 FD/SD Workshop on Educational Support for Students with Developmental Disabilities’ was held for all faculty and staff to expand support for students, specifically those with developmental disabilities, at Sapporo Gakuin University. This paper aims to evaluate the effect of the FD/SD workshop on faculty and staff. It also provides recommendations for the future development of training within the university. After the workshop, participants were asked to fill up a web-based questionnaire. Seventy-one faculty members provided a response. Based on their responses, it was inferred that targeting all faculty and staff could contribute to university-wide understanding and awareness of the need for supporting students with diverse needs. The participants were also more confident about their knowledge of supports for students with developmental disabilities at the end of the workshop than at the beginning, indicating that the workshop may have functioned as a space for providing basic knowledge on the subject. Still, there were some faculty members who were confident in their knowledge of supports for students with developmental disabilities but not about the actual supports that could be provided to such students.
Workshop on Support for Students with Developmental Disabilities in Their Studies and Employment
The university organised the ‘FY2021 FD/SD Workshop on Educational Support for Students with Developmental Disabilities’ for all faculty members and staff to improve support for students, specifically those with developmental disabilities. A similar Faculty Development (FD) and Student Development (SD) training was held the previous year; however, since it was voluntary, it attracted a smaller number of participants. Thus, for the latest workshop, attendance was made compulsory. Further, a questionnaire was also administered to participants. As the workshop was conducted in a group setting, sufficient measures were taken to prevent Corona infections. We also made a recording of the workshop available for viewing on demand.
This paper traces the efforts leading up to the mandatory FD/SD workshop, summarises future issues, and reports on some of the results of the questionnaire survey administered to participants. The questionnaire items covered their knowledge of the universityʼs activities as a base school for the Learning Support Network for Students with Disabilities and sought their opinions and suggestions regarding support for students with disabilities at the university.
Sign Language Interpretation as a Deaf Support System in Seminar Classes (2): How sign language interpreters helped students with hearing impairment to participate in class
Since 2020, our university has been hiring sign language interpreters for seminar classes. Using the reports of a sign language interpreter and interviews conducted with a deaf student, this study aims to examine the professionalism required of sign language interpreters in academic fields, advantages of using both sign language interpretation and written language simultaneously, and the challenges of university coordination systems. The results of this study show that the real-time and interactive nature of sign language interpretation, as well as appropriate environmental adjustments made by the sign language interpreter facilitated classroom participation among hearing-impaired students. Additionally, using both sign language interpretation and text interpretation made it easier to evaluate the main points of discussion and refer to the Japanese notation. Lastly, the study suggests that since sign language interpretation in university classes required different skills compared with those needed for sign language interpretation in the community, it was necessary to secure appropriate personnel and guarantee training opportunities to meet the needs with sign language interpretation among hearing-impaired students.
