    Feminis dan Islam sering dibenturkan sebagai ideologi yang berlawanan. Islam sebagai agama seringkali dipandang sebagai sumber munculnya praktik-praktik ketidakadilan terhadap perempuan. Akhir-akhir ini, ada upaya untuk menghidupkan kembali nilai-nilai Islam untuk memperkuat posisi perempuan, terutama bagi mereka yang lahir dan hidup dalam konteks budaya berbasis Islam. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap upaya negosiasi ideologi feminis dalam novel Assalamualaikum Beijing karya Asma Nadia. Feminisme multikultural digunakan sebagai perspektif dalam mengkaji isu ideologi feminis dalam novel dengan asumsi bahwa perempuan tidak diciptakan dan dikonstruksi dengan cara yang sama tetapi bergantung pada latar belakang sosial budayanya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa novel ini menekankan kemandirian perempuan dengan mendorong mereka melalui pendidikan dan karir untuk melepaskan diri dari masalah ekonomi dan sosial. Namun, kemandirian dan kesetaraan perempuan juga harus didukung oleh nilai-nilai agama (Islam). Tampaknya novel ini melawan stereotip yang menganggap atribut agama (Islam) yang melekat pada perempuan sebagai kurungan atau bentuk subordinasi, seperti hijab dan taaruf, namun atribut tersebut justru menjadi bentuk pembebasan dan otonomi perempuan. Feminism and Islam are often viewed as opposing ideologies. Islam as a religion is seen by feminists as the source of the emergence of fraudulent practices against women. However, in the present decade, feminists have developed their ideas dealing with cultural attributes, particularly about Islamic rule on women. There has been an effort to enliven Islamic values to strengthen the position of women, especially for those who were born and live in an Islamic-based culture. This article aims to reveal the negotiation of feminist ideology in Assalamualaikum Beijing novel written by Asma Nadia. Multicultural feminism is used as a perspective in examining how feminist ideology is negotiated in the novel. The assumption that women are not created and constructed in the same social and cultural circumstances, thereby having a different way to exist in society. The results show that the novel emphasizes women's independence by encouraging women's education and career to liberate themselves from economic and social shortcomings. However, women's independence and equality must also be in line with religious (Islamic) values. It seems that the novel fights against the stereotypes of Islamic attributes attached to women as confinement or a form of subordination, such as hijab and taaruf, these attributes, on the other hand, become a form of women's self-liberation and autonomy.

    Exploring the use of MIM in online flipped BIPA classrooms in South Korea: a pragmatic review

    This study examines to what extent a mobile instant messenger (MIM) is effective in online flipped BIPA (Indonesian as a Foreign Language) classrooms in enhancing learners’ pragmatic competence. The proposed approach is applied to an undergraduate introductory course on Indonesian language in South Korea. Learners are exposed to the lecture contents prior to the lecture time and the MIM is used for group discussion during the online sessions. Questionnaire distribution and participatory observation are used as techniques to collect the data and the results reveal that this approach helps them understand the course concepts better and helps them involved in an interactive and collaborative learning environment. Learners also produce sentences proper for the situation and perform appropriate speech acts to their peers

    Developing BIPA for working and business purposes could be one of the strategies to attract BIPA learners by demonstrating its usefulness. Since 1997, an applied Indonesian language programme in trade, economics and international relations has been established in the Department of Applied Foreign Languages at the La Rochelle Université in France. Using a descriptive qualitative method based on data from teaching materials and observations of students' responses, this article describes the learning strategies implemented by the programme despite the lack of a national BIPA curriculum.  The aim of this article is to provide ideas for the development of a curriculum for BIPA for work and business purposes, which is currently being actively discussed by the Language Development and Fostering Agency of the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture

    The article discusses the utilization of the activity video about traditional market in Indonesia as learning media for BIPA students in intermediate level 1. It aims to understand the value of the activity video to BIPA students in terms of using audiovisual media with local cultural contents. This article found that the video significantly impacted students understanding about the Indonesian culture particularly the daily activities in the traditional market through speaking and writing practices that they have done in BIPA class, although they still lack on affixes, formal and informal contexts, punctuation, and conjunction. The article concludes that based on these findings, further research in these topics is needed to improve the teaching and learning of BIPA, especially in intermediate level 1 classes.

    Preposition of Customary Language on Manjapuik Marapulai of Pasambahan Text in Solok City, West Sumatera

    This study aims to describe the preposition of the various convention languages in the text of Pasambahan Manjapuik Marapulai (hereinafter abbreviated as TPMM) in Solok City, West Sumatera. TPMM is one of a series of marriage ceremonies carried out according to Minangkabau custom in Solok City. The method in this study uses a qualitative descriptive method with the object of study in the form of prepositions in TPMM. The research data is in the form of sentences containing prepositional phrases contained in the TPMM. For data collection, the listening method was used with note-taking techniques. Furthermore, to analyze the data, the distribution method was used with the direct element division technique as a basic technique and an advanced technique in the form of marking reading techniques. The results of the research show that the prepositional forms found are the basic prepositions and the derived forms in the form of combined prepositions of type the meaning found is the place of being, the place of origin, the place of destination, origin, a certain place, comparison, and inclusion.  AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan preposisi bahasa ragam adat dalam teks Pasambahan Manjapuik Marapulai (selanjutnya disingkat dengan TPMM) di Kota Solok, Sumatera Barat. TPMM adalah salah satu rangkaian upacara proses perkawinan yang dilakukan secara adat Minangkabau di Kota Solok. Metode dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan objek kajian  berupa preposisi dalam TPMM. Data penelitian ini berupa kalimat yang mengandung frasa preposisional yang terdapat dalam TPMM. Untuk pengumpulan data digunakan metode simak dengan teknik catat. Selanjutnya, untuk menganalisis data digunakan metode agih dengan teknik  bagi unsur langsung sebagai teknik dasar dan teknik lanjutan berupa teknik baca markah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa bentuk preposisi yang ditemukan adalah preposisi  bentuk dasar dan   bentuk turunan berupa preposisi gabungan.  Jenis makna yang ditemukan adalah tempat berada, tempat asal, tempat tujuan, tempat tertentu; perbandingan, dan kesertaan

    Representasi Aksi Sosial dalam Konstruksi Ideologi Media Berita Digital Terkait Kebijakan Pemerintah Selama Pandemi

    In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, the government issued several policies disseminated through digital news media. However, these policies often become polemic in the community due to the different reporting based on the ideology of the media. The study aims to reveal the ideological construction of digital news media through linguistic representations of social actions in reporting on government policies during the pandemic through the employment of vocabulary and conjunctions. The data consists of digital news headlines on government policies during the pandemic generated through documentation from the three most popular digital media in Indonesia according to the Reuters Institute Digital News Report, namely Detik.com, Kompas.com, and CNN.com. The Critical Discourse concept applied is Theo van Leeuwen's social action framework to find the linguistic representation of each social action through the choice of words and conjunctions. Data analysis was carried out in two stages: analysis of the dimensions of social action to find linguistic representations of each social action in news discourse through word selection and conjunctions and ideological mapping which forms the basis of ideological classification of digital news media for every government policy related to handling Covid-19. As a result, it appears that detiknews.com does not agree with the implementation of PPKM, supports the vaccination program, and is neutral in social assistance data disputes between the central and regional governments. Kompas.com also stands in the same position on the issue of PPKM and vaccination. However, regarding the social assistance data dispute between the central and local governments, kompas.com tended to be on the government side. Meanwhile, cnnindonesia.com did not even question the PPKM-PSBB polemic, but emphasized its disapproval of paid vaccinations and sided with the central government in the social assistance data dispute between the central and regional governments. AbstrakSebagai respons terhadap pandemi Covid-19, pemerintah mengeluarkan beberapa kebijakan yang disebarkan melalui media berita digital. Sayangnya, kebijakan-kebijakan tersebut tak jarang menjadi polemik karena pemberitaan yang berbeda berdasarkan ideologi yang dianut media tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengungkap ideologi media berita digital serta konstruksinya melalui representasi linguistik aksi-aksi sosial dalam pemberitaan kebijakan pemerintah selama pandemi melalui pemanfaatan kosakata dan konjungsi. Data berupa judul berita pada platform digital yang memuat kebijakan pemerintah terkait Covid-19 yang dihasilkan melalui dokumentasi terhadap tiga media digital paling populer di Indonesia menurut Reuters Institute Digital News Report, yakni detik.com, kompas.com, dan cnn.com. Konsep wacana kritis yang diterapkan adalah kerangka aksi sosial Theo van Leeuwen untuk menemukan representasi linguistik setiap aksi sosial melalui pemilihan kata dan konjungsi. Analisis data dilakukan pada dua tahapan: analisis dimensi aksi sosial untuk menemukan representasi linguistik setiap aksi sosial dalam wacana berita melalui pemilihan kata dan konjungsi dan pemetaan ideologi yang menjadi dasar klasifikasi ideologi media berita digital terhadap setiap kebijakan pemerintah terkait penanganan covid-19. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa detiknews.com tidak setuju dengan penerapan PPKM, mendukung vaksinasi, dan netral dalam kisruh data bansos pusat-daerah. Kompas.com juga berdiri di posisi yang sama terkait PPKM dan vaksinasi. Namun, terkait kisruh data bansos pusat-daerah, kompas.com cenderung di sisi pemerintah. Sementara itu, cnnindonesia.com bahkan tidak mempermasalahkan polemik PPKM-PSBB, menitikberatkan ketidaksetujuannya pada vaksinasi berbayar, dan berpihak pada pemerintah pusat dalam kisruh data bansos pusat-daerah

    Analisis Bentuk Pemakaian Prinsip Kesantunan pada Tuturan Direktif dalam Interaksi Mahasiswa

    This study discussed directive speech (direct speech) in student conversations in the form of suggestions, requests, and orders. Direct speech is classified as productive in daily activities, so it is possible to find the use of maxims that are violated by students. This study also describes the form of politeness usage and the use of politeness principle maxims in students' direct speech. To describe and explain this, a qualitative descriptive research method was used, so that the forms and violations of maxims in the speech practices of the students were clearly explained. The results of the study show that the interaction between students in using directive utterances shows the use of the principle of the maxim of discretion; generosity/generosity; award; simplicity/humility; agreement; and sympathy. All the principles of politeness arise because of a combination of educational patterns in the family, community, and campus environment. AbstrakDalam penelitian ini dibahas terkait tuturan direktif (tuturan langsung) pada percakapan mahasiswa berupa saran, permintaan, dan perintah. Tuturan langsung tergolong produktif dalam aktivitas sehari-hari, sehingga memungkinkan ditemukan penggunaan maksim yang dilanggar oleh mahasiswa. Dalam penelitian ini juga dideskripsikan bentuk pemakaian kesantunan serta penggunaan maksim prinsip kesantunan pada tuturan langsung para mahasiswa. Untuk mendeskripsikan dan menjelaskan hal tersebut digunakan metode penelitian deskriptif kualitatif, sehingga dipaparkan dengan jelas bentuk dan pelanggaran maksim dalam praktik tuturan para mahasiswa. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan interaksi antar-mahasiswa dalam  menggunakan tuturan direktif menunjukkan pemakaian prinsip maksim kebijaksanaan; kedermawanan/kemurahan hati; penghargaan; kesederhanaan/kerendahan hati; permufakatan; dan kesimpatian. Semua prinsip kesantunan muncul karena gabungan pola pendidikan di keluarga, masyarakat, dan lingkungan kampus.

    Analisis genre dan APPRAISAL tulisan eksposisi pemelajar bahasa Indonesia bagi penutur asing

    This study aims to examine the writing organization and the evaluative meaning produced by BIPA students’ in their exposition essay. This study employs a qualitative approach with discourse analysis method. The data were drawn from selected essays composed by BIPA students in intermediate level at a formal institution outside Indonesia. This study used genre theory and APPRAISAL to examine the students’ essays. Genre theory (Martin and Rose, 2008) served as a framework to analyze potential generic stages of the data, whereas APPRAISAL, specifically attitudinal meaning, (Martin dan White, 2005) was used to identify the evaluative meanings in the data. This study indicates several findings. First, learners have established positions and arguments; however, their written works have not been well-structured. Second, the predominant utilization of evaluative meaning leans towards negative APPRECIATION, particularly within the argumentation stage. These findings suggest the need for teachers to teach generic structure and evaluative meaning explicitly.

    Aspek Sosial dalam Novel Surat Wasiat Karya Samsoedi

    This research was conducted due to the lack of public awareness in appreciating literary works that are full of social values. The purpose of this study is to describe the social elements contained in the novel Surat Wasiat by Samsoedi. In this research, the descriptive analysis method is used, which involves collecting data from the novel Surat Wasiat, analyzing the collected data, and presenting a description of the data. The main source of data in this research comes from the novel Surat Wasiat.  The data obtained is a record of the results of analyzing the literature that has been studied. The results of this study identified three social dimensions, including religious, economic, and educational aspects. In the religious social dimension, three related elements were identified, including 1) belief in Allah Swt, 2) obeying His commands, and 3) sincere attitude and gratitude to Him. In the social dimension of education, there are six elements, including 1) ethics, 2) respect, 3) patriotism, 4) peace, 5) avoiding envy and jealousy, and 6) complying with prevailing social norms. AbstrakPenelitian ini dilakukan karena kurangnya kesadaran masyarakat dalam menghargai karya sastra yang sarat dengan nilai-nilai sosial. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menguraikan elemen-elemen sosial yang terdapat dalam novel Surat Wasiat karya Samsoedi. Dalam penelitian ini, digunakan metode analisis deskriptif yang melibatkan pengumpulan data dari novel Surat Wasiat, proses analisis terhadap data yang terhimpun, serta penyajian deskripsi dari data tersebut. Sumber utama data dalam penelitian ini berasal dari novel Surat Wasiat.  Data yang didapatkan adalah catatan dari hasil analisis literatur yang telah diteliti. Hasil dari penelitian ini mengidentifikasi tiga dimensi sosial, meliputi aspek keagamaan, ekonomi, dan pendidikan. Dalam dimensi sosial keagamaan, teridentifikasi tiga elemen terkait, termasuk 1) keyakinan pada Allah Swt, 2) mematuhi perintah-Nya, serta 3) sikap ikhlas dan rasa syukur kepada-Nya. Dalam dimensi sosial pendidikan, terdapat enam unsur, di antaranya 1) etika, 2) sikap menghargai, 3) patriotisme, 4) kedamaian, 5) menghindari rasa iri dan dengki, serta 6) patuh pada norma-norma sosial yang berlaku

    Di Atas Kereta Angin: Berjalan di Ruang Hibriditas

    This study aimed to strip the journey of colonised and coloniser subjects in the short story Di Atas Kereta Angin (DAKA). The exploration used Homi K. Bhabha's postcolonial concept to see the characters' walking into hibridity space. By used a qualitative method, the results of this study show that there is mimicry in the way Dullah and bumiputra characters look and behave in front of Europeans. The mimicry was triggered by the justice and equality discourse and the changing times produced by Europeans. Although the mimicry as mockery in the eyes of one of the Europeans, Jan Buskes. The mimicry of Dullah and the bumiputra character makes them a hybrid subject, situated between Java and Europe. This hybrid condition creates a space of hybridity. The space of hybridity in DAKA is basically a negation created by the relationship between the coloniser and the colonised. On the one hand, Dullah and the bumiputra use it to achieve the justice and equality created by Kees and the other colonies. But on the other hand, it also became a space for the coloniser, Kees, to discipline Dullah's body. The existence of the narratives of justice and equality that were used to soften the hearts of Dullah and other natives, turned out to create a space of hybridity-ambivalence. With this ambivalence, DAKA is the one that negates the author's own view that Dutch figures have a humanist side. Furthermore, through DAKA, Bhabha's concept of mimicry as mockery does not apply universally, for example Kees condition, instead he deconstructs it. Finally, through DAKA, postcolonial studies can be used even though DAKA is set during the colonization era in the Indies. This means that postcolonial can speak beyond a specific time and space—when colonisation was still going on, before, or after. AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk menelanjangi perjalanan subjek terjajah dan penjajah di dalam Cerpen Di Atas Kereta Angin (DAKA). Penelanjangan tersebut menggunakan konsep poskolonial Homi K. Bhabha untuk melihat perjalanan tokoh-tokoh di ruang hibriditas. Dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif, maka hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya mimikri cara berpenampilan dan bertingkah laku tokoh Dullah dan bumiputra di hadapan orang Eropa. Mimikri tersebut dipicu oleh wacana keadilan dan kesetaraan serta zaman sudah berubah yang diproduksi oleh orang Eropa. Meskipun mimikri tersebut juga menjadi mockery di hadapan mata salah satu orang Eropa, Jan Buskes. Mimikri tokoh Dullah dan bumiputra menjadikannya sebagai subjek yang hibrid, berada di antara Jawa dan Eropa. Kondisi yang hibrid inilah yang melahirkan ruang hibriditas. Ruang hibriditas dalam DAKA pada dasarnya adalah negasi yang diciptakan oleh hubungan antara penjajah dan terjajah. Di satu sisi, Dullah dan bumiputra menggunakannya untuk mencapai keadilan dan kesetaraan yang diciptakan oleh Kees dan koloni-koloni lainnya. Akan tetapi di sisi lain juga menjadi ruang penjajah, Kees, dalam mendisiplinkan tubuh Dullah. Keberadaan narasi keadilan dan kesetaraan yang digunakan untuk melunakkan hati Dullah dan bumiputra lainnnya, ternyata melahirkan ruang hibriditas-ambivalen. Dengan adanya ambivalen tersebut, maka DAKA—menjadi salah satu—yang menegasi padangan penulisnya sendiri yang menggap tokoh-tokoh Belanda memiliki sisi humanis. Selanjutnya, melalui DAKA, konsep mimicry as mockery Bhabha tidak berlaku secara universal, contohnya Kees tidak terganggu sama sekali, malahan dia mendekonstruksinya kembali. Terakhir, melalui DAKA, kajian pokolonial dapat digunakan meskipun DAKA memiliki latar waktu saat era kolonialisasi di Hindia berlangsung saat itu. Artinya, poskolonial dapat berbicara di luar ruang dan waktu tertentu—saat era kolonialisasi masih berlangsung, sebelum, atau sesudahnya
