Debunking the normalisation of sexual violence on screen through #MeToo movement: The case of Hollywood films

This study examines the denormalisation of sexual violence against women in the #MeToo movement-themed Hollywood films. The strong presence of the social-political #MeToo movement in the past decade has influenced Hollywood films. The movement plays a major role in increasing public awareness of how devastating sexual abuse is against women and in challenging the current patriarchal system in society. This study uses descriptive research methods and adopts thematic analysis to critically analyse the denormalisation of sexual violence against women in Hollywood films with the #MeToo movement as their theme. This research used three Hollywood films as the units of analyses: On the Record, Athlete A, and Bombshell. This study found that these films are essential in denormalising sexual violence against women on screen. The findings show the three important characteristics shared among these three films. First, they shed light on the existence of the power imbalance between the perpetrators and victims. Second, they show the transformation of female victims of sexual violence into feminist figures. Last, they denormalise sexual abuse. The findings benefit academics who are interested in movie and gender studies as well as practitioners who promote gender equality and women’s rights. Keywords : Hollywood film; the #MeToo Movement; Sexual Violence; Denormalisation of Sexual Violenc

Mainstreaming Gender In The Blue Economy In Indonesia: Literature Review From An Ecological And Maritime Feminism Perspective

The blue economy has emerged as a strategic framework for sustainable development that emphasizes the responsible use of marine resources. Although Indonesia possesses vast potential in this sector, gender inequality remains a persistent barrier in its management. Coastal women who play essential roles in processing, marketing, and maintaining marine-based livelihoods are still underrepresented in blue economy governance. This study conducts a critical literature review to explore how ecological feminism and maritime feminism can provide an integrative theoretical lens to reinterpret gender relations in Indonesia’s blue economy. The novelty of this study lies in its synthesis of these two feminist perspectives, which have rarely been jointly applied to analyze marine governance in developing countries. The research was conducted between January and April 2025 using qualitative descriptive with and systematic literature review (SLR) methods and content analysis to identify recurrent themes, including inequality of access, invisibility of women’s labor, and the link between marine environmental degradation and gendered vulnerability. The findings reveal that women’s contributions are substantial yet systematically overlooked within a masculine blue economy framework. By integrating ecological and maritime feminist approaches, this study offers a conceptual model for gender-transformative blue economy policies that promote equality, inclusivity, and sustainability. These insights contribute to expanding feminist discourse in marine studies and support evidence-based policymaking for a just blue economy in Indonesia. Kepentingan Politik Elite dalam Proses Pemekaran Provinsi Papua Tengah: Analisis Perspektif Teori Konflik Lewis A. Coser

This article analyzes elite political interests in the policy of establishing Central Papua Province under Law Number 15 of 2022, employing Lewis A. Coser’s functional conflict theory. Regional expansion in Papua not only reflects an administrative state policy but also constitutes an arena of competing interests among the central government, local elites, and Indigenous Papuan communities. Using a descriptive qualitative method based on document analysis and in-depth interviews, this study demonstrates that conflicts surrounding the expansion have both realistic and non-realistic dimensions. Realistic conflicts are manifested in struggles over power, resources, and political positions among elites, while non-realistic conflicts emerge from expressions of dissatisfaction, historical trauma, and Papuan political identity. Within Coser’s framework, these conflicts perform functional roles by strengthening internal solidarity and reinforcing collective identity; however, they also generate dysfunctional effects, including increased distrust toward the state and social fragmentation. The study concludes that the formation of Central Papua Province reflects ongoing tensions between development agendas and elite political interests, underscoring the need for meaningful public participation and affirmative policies that are sensitive to local needs and cultural context

Background: Schizophrenia is a chronic psychiatric disorder characterized by significant cognitive impairments, including deficits in attention, processing speed, and executive function. Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) is known to play a key role in neuroplasticity and cognitive processes; however, its relationship with cognitive function in schizophrenia remains unclear. Objective: this research aims to determine correlation between serum BDNF levels and cognitive function  with Trail Making Test. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 50 schizophrenia patients. The population is schizophrenia patients at at Reksodiwiryo Padang Hospital Padang. The sampling method is a consecutive sampling.  The statistical test used is Spearman’s correlation. Results:   A significant proportion of participants demonstrated cognitive impairments (50% in Trail Making Test-A (TMT-A) and 60% in Trail Making Test-B), no statistically significant correlation was found between serum BDNF levels and TMT scores (TMT-A: r = -0.073, p = 0.612; TMT-B: r = -0.263, p = 0.065). Conclusion: This research concluded there was no statistically significant correlation between BDNF levels and TMT A and B. The findings suggest that serum BDNF may not directly correlate with cognitive impairments in schizophrenia, spesificly executive function and attention, as assessed by the TMT

Impact of Internal Mammary Artery Harvesting on Sternal Healing: A Review

Background: Internal mammary artery (IMA) is the preferred conduit for coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) due to its superior long-term patency. However, its harvesting disrupts sternal vascularization, potentially leading to impaired sternal healing and complications such as sternal wound infection (SWI). This review aims to synthesize current evidence on how IMA harvesting affects sternal healing after CABG, with a focus on surgical techniques, patient risk factors, and postoperative complications. Objective: This review aims to provide a comprehensive synthesis of current evidence regarding the impact of IMA harvesting on sternal healing following CABG. Methods: A review was conducted using the PubMed and ScienceDirect databases, including studies published from 2015 to 2025. Studies published before 2015 were considered if they provided foundational knowledge and were relevant. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs), propensity studies, and observational studies analyzing IMA harvesting techniques and sternal healing were included. The primary outcomes assessed were SWI, non-union, and delayed healing. Results: A total of 13 studies met the inclusion criteria, comprising 6 observational studies, 3 propensity-matched studies, and 4 RCTs. Bilateral IMA grafting was associated with an increased risk of SWI, especially in diabetic and obese patients. However, skeletonized IMA harvesting was linked to improved sternal perfusion and reduced wound complications compared to pedicled techniques. Additionally, interventions such as continuous insulin infusion and low-level laser therapy showed promise in enhancing sternal healing outcomes. Conclusion: IMA harvesting impacts sternal healing, particularly in high-risk patients undergoing bilateral IMA grafting. Skeletonized harvesting techniques and optimized perioperative care can mitigate the risk of complications

Background: Ovarian cysts are common in women of reproductive age and can vary from simple functional cysts to large benign or malignant neoplasms. Giant ovarian cysts are rare and may contribute to infertility due to mechanical and hormonal disruptions. Objective: To report the diagnosis and management of a giant ovarian cyst in a young woman with long-standing primary infertility, emphasising the importance of individualised surgical planning for fertility preservation. Case presentation: A 26-year-old nulligravida woman presented with progressive abdominal distension over three months. Imaging showed a 22 cm cystic adnexal mass with suspicious features and elevated CA-125 (84 U/mL). The patient underwent exploratory laparotomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. Histopathological examination confirmed a benign serous cystadenoma. The patient recovered well and was referred for fertility counselling. Conclusions: Early evaluation and careful management of large ovarian cysts are crucial in reproductive-age women with infertility. Although tumor markers and imaging guide diagnosis, histopathology is definitive. Surgical decisions must balance oncologic safety and fertility potential to optimise patient outcomes
