The Collective and Historical Self. : Vulnerable Epistemologies, Affective Politics, and Intergenerational Herstories
This paper investigates women’s multiple practices of doing and writing history at the intersections of history, epistemology, and politics. Drawing on archival material, I focus on the Greek feminist birth control movement, which was part of the broader women’s liberation movement, and highlight how it involved two simultaneous processes: the development of a feminist political agenda and the formation of knowledge. The analysis unfolds in three parts. The first section focuses on history and feminist intersubjectivities, exploring how the concept of history has been reconfigured in feminist historiography and the role of these reconfigurations within the Greek birth control movement. The second section examines the archives as central to knowledge production, specifically referencing the role of the Delfis Archival Center (Αρχείο Γυναικών Δελφύς) in Athens. Finally, the paper addresses studies of futurity and temporality, arguing for a reconfiguration of historical time itself. This multidirectional approach reveals how the Greek feminist birth control movement represents a political history of knowledge, marked by vulnerability, anxiety, and responsibility, as women strive to ensure their histories endure and effect small but meaningful political change over time.
"Well, I don\u27t know if that\u27s just me.": The (non-)sayability of experiences of linguicism as a result of epistemic violence
This article deals with the (non-)sayability of experiences of linguicism by teachers with a transnational family history. We explore this phenomenon through an in-depth analysis of an interview sequence showing the exploration and co-construction of a space in which talking about experiences of linguicism begins to seem possible, albeit tentatively. Drawing on a theoretical framework of feminist and decolonial perspectives, we interpret this phenomenon as a result of epistemic violence
Going Beyond the Rubrics? Ars Celebrandi and Its Relationship to Ius Liturgicum
The idea of an ars celebrandi has become increasing prominent in discussions about liturgical practice in general, and liturgical formation in particular. Whilst previous studies have approached this notion from a variety of perspectives, none has fully treated the history of the term or its technical relationship to liturgical norms. This essay examines the origins and development of the concept of an ars celebrandi from the theological literature of the immediately postconciliar period to its more recent adoption in formal Church teaching. From this historical vantage point, the essay draws on principles of canonical legal interpretation to consider, more precisely, how an authentic ars celebrandi demands both a certain going beyond the rubrics, and at the same time guarantees their faithful observance. It concludes with the English translation of an important intervention on the ars celebrandi given by Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, S.J. (later, Pope Francis) in 2005
Bite me! – Carnivorous plants as best practice examples to promote learning in biology lessons
This paper examines the characteristics attributed to carnivorous and non-carnivorous plants and how these relate to reasons for low interest in plants from the perspective of students. Qualitative questionnaires were used to analyse the perceptions and preferences of 22 ninth-grade students. The results show that characteristics such as active movement, visible interactions with the environment, and parallels with the animal world, are associated with carnivorous plants, and that it is the lack of those traits in other plants, which leads to disinterest. These findings highlight that not only the use of carnivorous plants, but also the promotion of attention to certain dimensions – such as movements, interactions, and aesthetics – in the classroom is crucial to increasing interest in plants. The study also shows that carnivorous plants are often equated with animals, which reinforces existing students-conceptions and makes it difficult to perceive them as plants
Dragonflies (Insecta: Odonata) in environmental education
Dragonflies are charismatic insects and widely regarded as flagships for conservation and connecting people with nature. This makes them ideal for increasing awareness for biodiversity issues. The present article aims to motivate those working in school and extracurricular environmental education, as well as in adult education, to engage with dragonflies. In this context, selected behaviours, which are generally easy to observe at standing and running waters, are shown and explained through photographs. Particular focus is laid on the behaviour of the Banded Demoiselle (Calopteryx splendens) and Beautiful Demoiselle (C. virgo). Additionally, opportunities are highlighted for implementing nature education through dragonfly-related information in the form of excursions, lectures, and workshops. Alongside selected dragonfly-related projects, the excursions at the garden exhibition ‘Die Garten Tulln’ are also presented
Towards an Evaluation Framework for International Strategic Partnerships between Universities: A Co-Creative Approach
Formalised international strategic partnerships between universities are relatively new. Such agreements include both research and education and cover a range of departments across the partner universities. As these partnerships are expected to contribute to strategic goals and have great impact, the question of evaluation becomes prominent.
This paper presents a project dedicated to the development of a framework for the evaluation of international strategic partnerships. The project was a collaboration between international officers of six universities (of which five in Europe) and academics of two of these universities. It was decided to co-create a framework. The academics guided the international officers through an evaluation of a strategic partnership and developed and tested the framework on the go.
The result is an evaluation framework that is very different from what the international officers initially envisaged. Yet it has changed the way in which evaluation thinking is integrated in the practice of international partnerships in these universities
Human, AI and Education in the Mirror of Philosophical and Media Educational Reflection: Action-Oriented Media Education and AI Alignment
This article examines the evolution of artificial intelligence within the tension field of societal, epistemological, and media educational challenges. Since the Copernican revolution, through Darwin\u27s discovery of the common ancestry of humans and animals, to Freud\u27s insight that our behavior is often controlled by unconscious processes, humanity has repeatedly had to accept that it is less unique than it believed. Today, the development of AI challenges our self-image once again, as machines begin to demonstrate capabilities we have long considered purely human. With progress toward increasingly powerful AI systems that autonomously handle complex tasks and penetrate central areas of life, the risk grows that their decisions will have far-reaching impacts on society and individuals. As AI systems evolve from specialized applications to more general, self-learning actors, the question of how to ensure their actions remain compatible with human values and societal goals becomes increasingly urgent. This challenge of AI alignment is thus not merely a technical problem, but a central societal and educational task. Since the complexity of the human-machine relationship is difficult to grasp theoretically, an action-oriented, media educational approach gains central importance—one that understands AI not only as a technical phenomenon, but as an occasion for active negotiation and educational processes. Using a higher education pilot project, this study demonstrates how transformative educational processes in dealing with AI can be made practically experienceable and reflectable. The analysis shows that action-oriented media education creates a central framework for enabling students to critically, autonomously, and participatively shape the relationship between humans and AI and address the question of AI alignment
Schooltools is a platform for digital applications in education that has been growing since 2021. It provides teachers, learners, and students with a variety of easily accessible, data-minimized, and immediately usable tools. In addition to curated applications, the platform is increasingly developing its own tools, such as a reading prompter, a class contract generator, and a sociogram generator—some of which are supported by generative artificial intelligence. As a research and development project at KPH Vienna/ Lower Austria, Schooltools investigates how digital tools are used in practice, what potential and challenges become apparent, and what skills are promoted in terms of critical media education. Critical media education means not only using media, but also understanding its conditions, logic, and effects, questioning it, and thereby deriving and promoting reflective courses of action and abilities. Theoretically, the project is based on media literacy models, seamless learning, and the approach of digital humanism. The goal is to move from a mere collection of tools to a critically framed toolbox that enables both the reflective use of digital tools and their creative and participatory use
