Rezension: "The Artist as Ecologist: Contemporary Art and the Environment" von Filipa Ramos
In The Artist as Ecologist: Contemporary Art and the Environment by Filipa Ramos examines how contemporary artistic practices shift from depicting the environment to actively transforming human–nature relations. Through works that center Indigenous knowledge, rural practices, performance, sound, and exhibition-making, Ramos shows art becoming an ecological intervention that challenges human exceptionalism and invites new modes of inhabiting the world

Wonder Women? A Patriarchal Rewriting of the Charismatic Role of Widows (1 Tim 5:3–16)
This article explores 1 Tim 5:3–16, focusing on how the image of widows reflects deeper changes within the early church. What seems at first like a simple rule of care turns out, on closer reading, to be part of a slow retreat from charismatic freedom toward managed structure. Some have read the passage as a pastoral aid for vulnerable women; others see a quiet attempt to curtail formerly public, spirit-filled roles. The passage suggests that the text helps us trace how certain women were remembered – and at the same time, how they were restricted. The questions raised by this tension remain of major importance today
Women as Producers of Global Historical Knowledge : Women’s Suffrage in the Periphery of the Russian Empire, the Grand Duchy of Finland, 1890s–1910s
In 1907 the Grand Duchy of Finland of the Russian Empire became the first state in the world to elect women to its national parliament. This paper explores an overlooked part of the process that led to Finnish women attaining full suffrage, which is their own agency in the production of knowledge arguing for universal suffrage in the conjuncture of local intra-imperial and global inter-imperial politics and circuits of knowledge. In the process, Finnish women activists from across the political spectrum developed a particular theory of history and progress, a theory that ran against the grain of patriarchal sovereign power, metropolitan democracy, and incrementalist and teleological understandings of progress. It tied the argument for full women’s suffrage to the global position of the grand ducal state and the socalled Finnish Question. The concept of democratization that emerged from the theorization of Finnish women’s activists dissociates and undermines earlier, more unequal forms of democracy. Building on previous literature on the international dimension of suffrage activism in Finland, I argue that the role of these women as producers of global historical knowledge is an integral part of explaining democratization in Finland in 1905/06.In 1907 the Grand Duchy of Finland of the Russian Empire became the first state in the world to elect women to its national parliament.
“Chinese-style Science Fiction (SF)” is conceived as a category of Chinese science fiction with a distinct cultur-al identity derived from the incorporation of Chinese cultural elements. This article discusses Chinese-style SF and its impact on the global reception of Chinese SF by analysing two online SF magazines: the American magazine Clarkesworld and the Chinese digital platform Bu cunzai 不存在. Analysis of Clarkesworld inter-views and essays suggests that Chinese-style SF identifies as an estranging Other to normative Western SF, which limits its value to cultural estrangement and exoticism. Non-Exist’s editorials consider the literary mis-sion of Chinese-style SF as refining the quality of Chinese SF with the innate merits of traditional culture. This cultural essentialist understanding homogenizes the effect of traditional culture and individual authors’ diverse usage of Chinese cultural elements. Next, it considers the Chinese-style SF published in Clarkesworld, and Non-Exist’s workshop in Danzhai 丹寨that invited international SF writers to create stories inspired by Dan-zhai’s ethnic culture. The stories in Clarkesworld demonstrate that Chinese-style SF’s attempts to integrate Chinese tradition with scientific imagination only further accentuates the underlying presupposition of the dichotomous relationship between the two. Stories produced at the Non-Exist workshop prove that “tradition” is a contemporary and artificial reinvention that conforms to Orientalist perceptions and represents general-ized cultural mindsets. I conclude that Chinese SF cannot rely on Chinese-style SF’s constructed otherness to establish its unique identity, since “Chinese style” ultimately conforms to homogeneity.

From the perspective of educational theory, the following article discusses questions of the organisation and design of language teaching in the Austrian school system. With the help of linguistic-critical analysis, forms of this teaching and its pedagogical design in the specific case of first language teaching, German teaching and the concept of educational language introduced for (subject) teaching in the sense of universal language education are examined, reflected upon and criticised. It concludes with an attempt to transcend these pedagogical issues, i.e. to look at their unrealised possibilities
